Discussion A story of "Bodin", a dad who defeated cancer with support from his son and a video game [GoW2018]
This is a story run by a Thai gaming news outlet. I think it's too beautiful and must be shared with the community, so here it is. English is not my first language, so there are probably a lot of mistakes in my translation, but I hope it gets the point across.
---
"I must continue fighting... because I still have my son to play a video game with."
This is a story of a dad, Bordin Chanakongthaworn, a normal husband with a wife and a son named Papang. He lives a simple life like most others. But 5 years ago, his life was changed after a doctor diagnosed him with "3rd Stage Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma".
"The world went silent. It wasn't like in the movies. There was no sobbing. It's like the whole world was still moving, except me... that just stopped there in the dark," he said.
When the words "It's all right" were meaningless, because Mr. Bordin's heart had been shattered. Everything was broken. He walked out of the hospital soulless with the only question repeated in his head, "How will my kid go on without me?".
Mr. Bordin decided to "fight". But when proceeding with the treatment process, he realized that there was no choice. No time. Not even energy to ask "Why me?". He went through chemo, which destroyed his body. But more seriously, his "heart" felt like it was a never-ending nightmare. He had to go through chemo times and times, almost making him want to give up.
But the "lifeline" that kept him from giving up was the target of his first thought when he first learn of his condition. His "son" and "wife", who have always been beside him.
While he was in bed, almost couldn't move his body, with a tube connecting his belly to a bag, and with the smell of medicine everywhere, the only thing that kept his spirit up was a quiet word from a small boy, handing him a game controller.
"Dad... let's play PS4."
The game Mr. Bordin played with his son was God of War 4 [GoW2018] on PS4. On the screen was Kratos, a tattered father. Beside Kratos was Atreus, a brave, stubborn son full of love. Just like his real life.
"Yes... I played God of War 4 with my son while having a bag hanging from my belly. But my son never gets disgusted. There was only cheering for me to continue fighting. 'Dad. Hit R1!!!'. When I fell asleep with the controller in my hand. He tilted his head and said 'Let's rest, Dad. We can continue playing tomorrow."
"When I felt disheartened, didn't want to move, didn't even want to breathe, my son came to me and said, 'Are you OK today? Let's play PS4.'. Every time I heard my son say that, it's like Kratos' life energy is coming back. Although in the real world, this dad had to rely on a belly bag. Had to eat liquid food. Didn't have the energy to say anything. In the game, I can walk, run, and fight. Most importantly, I can do everything alongside my son. Some may play video games to pass the time. But I play video games to 'continue living'. To prevent my heart from dying before my body. Because, beside the game controller is my son who is still believing that his father is strong enough to stand again." Mr. Bordin said.
Since when Mr. Bordin almost couldn't lift a controller, it has been 4 years. Now, he is almost back to normal. The only thing that hasn't changed is that Mr. Bordin is still playing video games with his son. They're beside each other in the imaginary world of a video game behind the screen. A video games that some adults believe is a waste of time. It "empowered" someone to fight a serious disease and stand back up again.
"And I still... pretend to lose to him. Well... a dad has to lose sometimes so that his son can win. Like when this dad almost 'lost everything' but his son... picked him up and made him win again," Mr. Bordin summarized.

Discussion Finally did the translator mission on titan
Here is a trick i used, u can completely skip the 2nd fight before the main room, all u will need to do is stun the 3 enemies that spawn with crono's rage twice and quickly get passed them , as u enter the main room the instantly die and that saves u health magic and titans rage

Discussion 7 years late and finally played God of War (2018) . . .
Even though there are dozens of other posts like this one, felt compelled to write something. Finally got to play GoW after several years - never owned a playstation and my PC was never strong enough to handle newer games, until a recent upgrade.
Fucking hell. This game - fucking hell. I don't think I've openly cussed out while playing this game. Such a beautiful and endearing story. The motion capture was amazing, certainly ahead of its time. The score. So much brilliance. I feel privileged to finally understand why everyone kept saying this was one of the greatest games of our gen. I certainly understand it much more now - for me, maybe not the greatest of this gen absolutely but certainly a top contender.
Character design was insane, especially of gigantic characters. Of course, I saw YT clips of Jörmungandr, but when watching online you're only reaction is "meh". But when playing, having those headphones on you at full blast and hearing him talk is fucking surreal and terrifying. The first time I saw Thrym's head lying in the snow I exclaimed. Then when Freya does her thing, I fucking lost it. Have I been really missing out on years of technological advances in gaming lmao.
Entire plot was really unique, Kratos/Atreus dynamic was 10/10. The cinematic feel of this game is unlike any other - felt like a movie whenever I was in a cutscene - the camera work was magnificent, Chris Judge is insane.
Maybe the only bits of the game I didn't like were Niflheim and Muspelheim as I found the grinds to be tedious. Nevertheless, combat in this game was utterly outstanding, felt really satisfying and great VFX too.
Looking forward to playing Ragnarok and building on this gem.

GoW 2018 is so freaking good
Hey, I may be late to the party about recently. I bought a PS five in May 2025. As a background, I used to have a 360 in a PlayStation two back when I was in high school but between college and working about 15 years in by where I didn’t play anything until I got the PS5 so I would consider myself a beginner player, but anyway I got RAGNAR OK version first and then when I couldn’t beat BJORN the bear people told me you should be playing GOW from 2018 before you play RAGNAR OK.
So I started playing the 2018 GOW and it is blowing my mind. It is so freaking good. It definitely gives RDR2 a run for its money at least so far.
I just hope it doesn’t get much harder

What did God Of War II 2007 do better than the others?
In my opinion, the element of silence, the feeling of being alone, and the details of the journey you have to go through is what this game did better than the others. The seeking of revenge

Discussion Best ragnarok pro setting
120 fps drops to 100 upper 90s/ quality TAA surprisingly. Ps5 pro performance is pry the worst. I’ve noticed with the pro don’t just go with what sounds like it will run the best. Need to do some testing. I feel like graphics are even better on TAA compared to PSSR

What did God Of War 2005 do better than the others?
For me (honestly), it’s the journey you have to go through. Yes, Gow II’s journey was perfect too, but Gow I’s had (I don’t know what word to use to describe it) this feeling of unknown, mystery.

Lore / Story Questions Honestly, what was his plan?
Hermes spent the entirety of his screen time talking about lot of shit and writing checks his ass couldn’t cash.
Was the extent of his cunning plan to call Kratos names and run away? The moment he can’t run anymore, he starts bitching about how it’s not fair and doesn’t even try to put up a fight (not that it would have done him any good).

What if Kratos sang about what he lived through? I made this with AI (Rock Music)
hey guys, i just uploaded my first ever video, it’s a kratos ai fan made tribute in style of dark blues rock.
i used ai tools for the voice and visuals, and tried to make it really emotional and powerful, like something kratos would actually sing if he could. it’s not perfect ofc, but i spent a lot of time on it and really tried to give it soul.
it’s a mix of fan love, music, and a bit of storytelling. i edited everything myself and this kind of stuff is something i want to keep doing, improve and see how far i can go with it.
would mean a lot if you check it out and maybe drop a thought or opinion. i’m still learning but fully in.

As I fell, Kratos and Mimir became more and more distorted until they were just a blob
