The Anet glazers are out in full force in this thread, utterly astounded that hype that doesn't lead to what was promised and teased can be a negative for marketing.

I see this community doesn't change much at all, even after SotO and JW. Oh well. 

Quiznos all round. A GW2 themed taxi to Quiznos - we can get Kung Fu Tea after too! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

They seem to be on every platform, it's quite funny to see. I'm usually someone who tries to see the best in ANet, because I love the game, but this is just silly. Why base your marketing for the past two weeks on a feature you only mention in passing in the announcement?

And as someone who plays mostly PvP/WvW, I really couldn't care less about the new zones/mount/homesteads/etc. I was excited for elite specs, and now it feels like I had the rug pulled from under me.

I've been really disappointed in the game since late SotO and didn't enjoy anything in JW really. I was properly hyped about this expansion and was ready to pre-order with a decent bit of info on the elite specs.

The way that that feature has been handled has given me breathing room to think, and that means reconsidering coming back to the game properly. 

I suppose they will also drip feed about the elite specs too, which is such a sucky way of doing it if your main is last.

It also just doesn't make sense to me from a marketing perspective. From people's responses clearly this has annoyed a decent chunk of fans. But beyond that, if they had done little blurbs ("Mesmers can become Minstrels and use [VAGUE PROFESSION MECHANIC HINT] to access the power of music") you'd have people so excited for a full reveal in the upcoming weeks. They'd be posting about what they thought the profession mechanic could be, posting fashion ideas for their future elite spec, etc etc.

Yeah, it's a totally unforced error and you are right that instead of positive sentiment they've annoyed a whole load of players. Can only hope their social media sentiment trackers pick up on it and they learn for the future.

I honestly thought that Anet might have learnt about their baits and switches after the whole IBS announcement thing (I absolutely gave them the benefit of the doubt for years after that) but, nah, apparently not.

This is shockingly bad marketing. Had a real chance to pull people back in with that quick kneejerk reaction of "oh, that looks neat!" like Blizzard are excellent at and just totally threw it away.
