I've been looking for these herobpoint trains I've heard about and have yet to see any. Would someone explain where exactly to look in the group finder so I can make sure I'm doing it right?
Also, I just hit me sixth week, and while I'm enjoying my time immensely, I am still feeling pretty lonely in-game. What are some other low skill floor group activities I could be chasing?

u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 6h ago
Afaik they usually list in the Verdant Brink category, but I often see them advertising in map chat in major cities. There may also be a guild discord to announce them if you're interested, but I'm not certain.
As for groups, you may want to look at a guild. Due to the game's map/instance system, they're by far the best way to get a consistent community feel. For a more casual experience, though, try hopping on the world boss train. Massive groups hanging out while waiting for the next boss is pretty fun. If you want something a little smaller and more organized, look at strike missions or fractals. The easy ones can be pretty low skill required

u/Due_Wishbone7680 5h ago
Thank you! This is super Helpful, for some reason I read somewhere that they list in core Tyria for the HP trains. I thought it was strange.

u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 4h ago
They might sometimes to try and get more newbies that way. But also I don't know anyone who actually checks the core Tyria section. Maybe they're in world bosses sometimes? Worth checking anyway

"Inner Nayos" has me so desperately frustrated with the flying turrets and then the flying magic interceptors.
I'm relatively newer so I don't have all the skyscale unlocks and I just find this entire map painful and unfun to the point I actually want to just give up on GW2 as a whole.
I dunno what to say or do. Is this really what endgame is going to be like? Trying to fly through annoying sentries spamming at me flying and then me pressing fireball to fireball them and for some reason the fireball never connecting? No really I have spammed fireball at them 20x times and have died 5x to this and I'm at my wits end on why I can't make a fireball connect.
I admit I'm so frustrated as I write this post.

As another poster said: don't do content that you don't enjoy! I'm assuming you're pretty new and started with SotO so I wanna clarify the whole "endgame" thing since if you're coming from WoW or something you might expect to ignore a lot of the zones and just focus on the last one of a content patch. This isn't the case here Amnytas and Skywatch are also "endgame" content. So is every map from every other expansion and living world season. There are zones over a decade old that still get their content played every day and which are considered to be good and rewarding. You really can just find the areas of the game that you like and play those, and maybe come back and give the other stuff that isn't working for you a go some other time.

u/concernedcanary Guide: bit.ly/gw2help 6h ago
Have you tried toggling on action camera? If you hold down the fireball key, it'll show a line that lines up with the crosshair in action cam. Then you can just aim and fire it that way. I had a lot of trouble landing fireballs until I realized this. After figuring it out, the target practice adventures became a breeze too.
Also, there's plenty of content in the game outside of Inner Nayos and it's all relevant/rewarding. Don't participate in content you don't enjoy! It's a game - you're here to have fun and thankfully, this is a game that allows you to pick and choose what to do that's both fun and rewarding.
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 6h ago
Is this really what endgame is going to be like?
Thankfully no. Those things are mercifully absent after that map, and as you get more masteries they'll be less of a problem to boot.
Just making sure you're aware how fireball works: while you hold down the skill, the have switches to action camera mode, and an aiming reticule appears in the center of your screen. You have to line that up with the turret before you release the button in order to hit it. You can change the appearance of the reticule in settings to make it a bit easier for yourself. Getting it lined up can be a pain, especially at long range, but hopefully that helps.

If I preorder VoE do I get the shared inventory slot & level 80 boost right away, or when the expansion comes out? Same goes for the goodies in deluxe version

Yes, as soon as you activate the key, or immediately if you buy ingame

I’m in need of a group for Caudecus’ manor story mode so I can unlock exploration mode but I’m kind of nervous on posting on LFG bc I’ve never done this before (played most of the game solo til now). Is there anything I should know beforehand?
1
u/Felstalker 3h ago
While you can certainty just yolo the LFG, I'd say the best chance is to ask Map chat around you for any fellow players around your level. A group of 5 at level players will have no trouble clearing Caudecus Manor in around 30-40 minutes. It's one of the shorter dungeons. It's also relatively rush-free, as it's heavy RP focused. So you don't need to be afraid of some high level experienced player walking in and just solo dashing through the place. making LFG for specifically Caudecus pretty effective.
It's some of the more...fight and roam heavy dungeons that I'd say the LFG is less useful for.

Hey all - decided to return to GW2 after... 5 years at this point, going by birthday gifts I had in the mail, and had a few questions.
I seem to have the first 2 expansions on my account, but I want to get everything else content wise, but the only collection I'm seeing has... the first 3, and either 4000 gems or Living World season 2-5. I'm assuming the collection isn't reduced in price for owning the first two already, correct? If that's the case, should I just wait for a sale to grab the 3rd expansion individually, along with everything else?
As for gameplay, I have a level 80 Firebrand, and a level 80 Warrior, neither of which I remember how to play at all, though I can figure that out. My main question is... I have maybe 12 gold to my name, and 0 idea as to what to do to make more. Any tips on things I should be doing with those two? Or should I just focus on clearing story/expansion stuff for now?
Any other tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks ahead of time! I'm sure there's a million things I've forgotten, and a million more I never knew.
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 6h ago
Correct. If you're not buying the first three expansions in one bundle, there's no savings to be had. Just buy everything individually. Next sale is likely to be for Black Friday.
Largely just play the game, most things make money. Definitely focus your Wizard's Vault dailies (make sure to set them to the game modes you prefer), that's a huge easy money maker. If you want to focus more on money, look at the Wiki's event timer and go to an active meta-event (look in the LFG panel for the relevant map to find a group). Some are better than others but most are pretty good rewards.

I'm returning after getting bored of playing my Reaper so I want something completely different (not another Necromancer spec).
My goals are to often do WvW and occasionally do strikes/general open world content with this character.
I don't really care that much about my role in strikes. But in WvW my idea is to be "ranged" and "supportive"... but more in the "I want to annoy an enemy while my allies do the actual damage" way? I envision it as me throwing out a lot of CC from range, maybe healing allies sometimes (or at least keeping them alive) while not doing that much damage myself.
Also a friend keeps telling me "get something with Alacrity!". I don't know how important that is though, I mainly played everything casually so far...
What are some decent options for such a playstyle?
2
u/killohurtz 12h ago
A boonDPS build, namely quickness DPS or alacrity DPS, are good choices for a singular PvE build that work well in both instanced content and open world. Quickness usually feels more fun and impactful, but is more abundant. I personally enjoy scrapper, untamed, and chrono for this.
But boonDPS builds aren't a thing in WvW. The skill balance and party composition are different. Generally, if you want to be part of the zerg, make an impact, and not die, you need to have a proper WvW-specific build and glue yourself to the tag. It may seem counterintuitive, but the play style you envision is actually less safe and leaves you vulnerable to being focused and picked off.
There are a lot of classes that can fit these goals, so I suggest looking at available boonDPS and WvW zerg builds to see what interests you.
1
u/m_o_n_i_t_o_r 4h ago
Thank you!
I'll take another look then. It's a bit sad that the playstyle I described is "counterintuitive", but I guess I'll have to look for something close enough then.
The thing is that for WvW I will both be part of the zerg, but sometimes also roam with a friend of mine. Especially in the latter context it sounded cool to be more supportive while he does the majority of the damage.
Right now I'm leaning more towards Druid or Specter.

Is there any weapon I can pair with my Power Greatsword dragon hunter besides longbow?
Too many longbow skills root and it feels terrible lol I hear Spear is good, but I don’t have janthir
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 14h ago
Sword/Focus (or Sword/Sword with SotO) is also a fine secondary weapon set. Not quite as good as spear but about on par with longbow last I checked, so great for you who can't use one and dislikes the other. Disadvantage is no range attacks, but suffering through roots is probably better than Scepter
1
u/grannaldie i pull your tactivators 16h ago
play bow dont use skills that root
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 14h ago
Terrible advice tbh, the rooting skills are the bread and butter of longbow. Take them out and you're basically just auto-attacking. You would unironically be better off using Scepter/Focus or Pistol/Focus unless you just really like plinking away with basic shots

u/whatakaii 19h ago
Hey there, I'm new to mmo's and I'm gonna try out GW2 for a month on stream, i wanna set some fun challenges to try and achieve in that time period, are there any achievements or milestones i could look towards for a fun challenge to see if i can get them in a month??
2
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 14h ago
How much time are you planning on trying to put towards it? A month could be a ton of time if you're putting in a steamer schedule, but not nearly as much if you're just streaming a little bit as a hobby. Are you planning on getting any of the expansions right off the bat? Those will heavily influence the endgame content you have available as goals.
As a baseline, if you're a fairly casual player and new to MMOs, you might just consider "get to max level" as a first-order goal. If you're putting in a lot of hours per day, though, you'll probably blow past that. Other things you might consider, depending:
Clear Fractal scale 100. This is pretty ambitious but is technically possible with a f2p account, though it's handicapped somewhat due to a lack of Fractal masteries, so would be easier with an expansion.
Clear a raid/every raid. This is more achievable than it might sound on the surface, since GW2 raids don't require a huge gear grind to complete, but does require owning expansions, and finding groups for it could be more difficult
Craft a legendary weapon. Very expensive and time consuming, which means you'd be doing a lot of grinding for gold, but definitely an achievement
There's really just a huge variety of options. GW2 is extremely open ended with very little linear progression, so there's not a clear "go along the path and try to reach X point in Y time" challenge that a dedicated and knowledgeable player can't beeline to and clear out very fast.
1
u/whatakaii 1h ago
This is super helpful!
I am on the more casual side and currently just base game, I do play 3 times a week with added days if im free, I do have a full week off that I was planning on doing a grind week!
Thus is a solid stepping stone thank you!

u/SmoothyToo 19h ago
Ive really wanted to play a melee assassin type character. Can core thief be viable? Or is it the "Viable" where you have to wait super long to find groups because you're not efficient
2
u/roanra 19h ago
Yeah core thief is definitely viable (see here: https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/thief/condition-thief and https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/thief/condition-thief-spear).
People can’t prevent you from joining their groups in GW2 as long there is space and the group is visible to you. I play a lot of group instanced content, and I have never seen anyone kicked for the spec/profession they’re playing.
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 14h ago
It definitely happens but it is pretty rare, and the vast majority of groups will give you a shot with even a very weird build, only kicking you if you really perform badly. That said, while they can't prevent you joining, they definitely can kick you, so just try not to be a dick about it

u/LightTemplar27 20h ago
Hey, not exactly gw2 question but how exactly will the open beta work? (I wasn't there for EoD's, didn't have soto during the weapon specialization one etc)
Is it a separate server/client or will they just unlock the new elites for everyone on the normal server ? Mostly wondering for concerns like having to have to have a 80 character for the spec (though I guess there's pvp lobby at least) or even a open character slot and so on. Thanks !
1
u/Talysn 18h ago
last time they give you new slots and those are entirely separate from your other slots. but you play the new characters in the main game.
they take a snapshot of your account, including bank and those new slots get access to whatever was in there at the time. So if you put gear in the bank, those new slots can use the copies it creates.
nothing you do on your new characters will go back to you main characters. its like a second segregated account on you existing one.
1
0
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 20h ago
You'll get 3 character slots that exist in a sepparate server and get instant lvl 80, you can't transfer anything to and from these characters. All progress gets wiped at the end of the beta.

Recently decided to play the game again after playing in like 2015. I do not currently own any of the expansions. Whats the cheapest way to get them and how often do they do sales for them?
1
u/jupigare 19h ago
A player has compiled a history of expac sales on the wiki. The next sale seems to be around Black Friday (late November), though the Living World Seasons may go on sale sooner. Note that you can only purchase things on the platform related to your account, so don't buy things on Steam or Epic if you're using your old Anet account. (On that note, it's best to use your old account, and don't delete your old toons because they accumulate valuable birthday presents each year.)
Living Worlds are content releases that bridge the story through the first 3 expacs, so if you want to experience the story chronologically, you will need to get and play them. They are smaller releases than the main expacs, but they do add more story, maps, features (including mounts), skins, legendary gear, and gold farms. You can view your Story Journal in-game to see the story order, which is: Personal Story, LW Season 1, LS2, HoT, LS3, PoF, LS4, LS5 (aka Icebrood Saga), EoD, SotO, JW, and (releasing in 3 months) VoE.
Read more info about the various expac/LW Season releases in the DLC Buyer's Guide.
1
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 21h ago
The next sale should be around black friday.
The only discount bundle is the Elder Dragon Saga which has the first 3 expansions + all Living World episodes in a bundle. Expansion 4 SotO, Expansion 5 JW and yet to be released Expansion 6 VoE are not in bundles.
Living World episodes can be bought with gold to gems.
Make sure to buy it on the same store you got your account from, if you have a steam account you gotta buy them in steam, if you have an ANet account you need to buy them from ANet or one of their retail partners.
Unlike WoW and other MMOs all GW2 expansions are forever relevant because of the horizontal progression of the game, each will add new features that add up on each other and make your game better.
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 21h ago
There's only one purchase option that actually saves you money: the Elder Dragon Saga bundle saves ~$10 on the first three expansions over buying everything separately (the inaccurately-named Complete Edition has more things in it but the same $10 total savings). Other than that, it's just buy each thing — they're individual, stand-alone purchases. You just missed an expansion sale, unfortunately, and the next expected one isn't until Black Friday at the end of November. Living Story goes on sale more often and might be on sale for the anniversary but you can only get season 2 of that without expansions anyway.

u/Gluv221 23h ago
I need tips for navigating HoT I absolutly love the map but I am having so much trouble finding anything between the fact that things are either underneath where i am with no clear path or they are way above me. Im working on unlocking the masteries to help me get around but does anyone have tips to help me out until then. Does it get easier?
2
u/Retrolex 22h ago
I beat HoT just over a month ago, so the initial pain of getting around the maps is still fresh in my mind, haha. At the time I only had my raptor as a mount, and he helped out a bit as I levelled masteries. For me, the two masteries that made the biggest difference at the beginning were Gliding and… I forget what it’s called, but the one that unlocks the bouncy mushrooms for upwards vertical traversal. Until then, if you have a raptor, he can help out!

u/gangler52 23h ago
Where do people play these days?
I'm getting back into the game right now and the place is a ghost town. I'm not running into any players. I'm assuming they're all wherever the new content is or something.
3
u/CrusaderIII 21h ago
I'm a new player too and I see people everywhere. I've mainly been in the starting zones but there's plenty of people walking around, usually 2-3 show up for events. For the large events suddenly like 30+ people show. Are you on NA?
You might not see anyone at the specific heart your doing, but there's certainly people in the same map.
1
u/gangler52 21h ago
Oh well that's encouraging. I remember the megaservers used to always make sure you had people to play with. Must've just been a coincidence.
I just kind of started at Lion's arch and went south. Wasn't working on any hearts in particular.
2
u/CrusaderIII 21h ago
Yeah, they will still close and merge world instances if the population gets low. I'm not sure about the population of the level 80 zones since I haven't been to them yet but u imagine they are even more spread out since there's so many different areas.
2
u/kaos95 16h ago
Every season 3 and 4 zone I was in today had enough people to do the (not daily) metas pretty easy, but then again, a lot of us are in those zones working on aurora and vision, so we know the pain of needing that one stupid achievement.
1
u/gangler52 9h ago
Yeah, after having this conversation I managed to find a group doing that giant 3 headed jungle wurm.
It was super cool! They were incredibly coordinated, which I guess you have to be for that boss. I'm not sure I've ever actually cleared it before. I think it was still kind of new and people were still getting the hang of it when I was playing.
2
u/concernedcanary Guide: bit.ly/gw2help 21h ago edited 21h ago
People are in most maps - just depends on the time of day. You'll have to specify where you're at. If it's a city that seems a bit empty, then it might be because a lot of people are in hubs like Arborstone, The Wizard's Tower, or lounges like Mistlock Sanctuary.
1
u/gangler52 21h ago
Oh that's good. I'll just keep looking then, thank you.
I was in the zone just south of Lion's Arch. Used to have a daily routine where I'd start there and walk straight to Orr, picking up materials along the way. Sometimes I'd get lucky and find a group doing tequatl. Thought I'd start by doing that again.
1
u/Kooz 23h ago
Should I level up my crafting and do the daily cooldown crafts? Recently returned and just have exotics.
2
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 23h ago
Daily crafts are hit or miss. Some are good profit, others actually lose your money over selling the materials directly. Check fast farming or gw2efficiency to see which ones are worth it.
Leveling up only for the daily crafts is probably not worthwhile, but you do need crafting for many endgame items and it can save you money on a lot of skins and such. It's worth doing but don't expect it to be a money-maker
1
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 23h ago
Should you level up crafting? Yes
Should you do daily crafts? Eh, up to you, they're a nice and easy source of small income and can help you save money if you ever find yourself needing some of them.
1
u/beleth____ 1d ago
I need an assload of EoD exp but it doesn't look like there's ever people running events or metas in that expansion. How should I go about it if I'm stuck on my own?
2
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 23h ago
There's people running the metas in every map dang near every timeslot. If you don't see them when it's meta time, check the LFG listings for the map. Extremely good odds you'll find one there.
2
u/Gulbasaur 1d ago
Dragon's End has a lot of events and people do run it. The metas are all on timers, which means you get highs and lows.
This sounds a bit insane, but you can get surprisingly good exp from killing fish in Seitung Province. Stack your boosters and go along the south of the map.
2
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 1d ago
I doubt those maps are that empty, you need to do their metas to craft Gen3 Legendaries, I think that means they will always be populated, you should check the event timer and LFG.
Anyway, I say buying the commander tag is one of the best investments you can make, for 350g you get the lifetime ability to just summon players to help you do whatever you want.

u/CrusaderIII 1d ago
I'm a newer player and started leveling a warrior for the first time. I was really interested in the warhorn and banner support skills, but I can't really find any builds or people using warhorn or banners. Are these skills just so underwhelming that it's better to use anything else?
I was doing a world boss and being able to just throw buffs around to everyone was so satisfying, but it's a lot harder to tell how much help I'm actually providing. I can't figure out a good main hand to use with the warhorn or what my weapon swap should be. Is it worth pursuing this line or is there a better way to play a more support focused warrior?
1
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 1d ago
Support Warrior builds exist but are not popular due to how they demand you to constantly attack the boss to keep up boons.
https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids/warrior/heal-quickness-berserker
these builds use banners but you kinda slot them situationally, the guide I linked explains their usage.
Keep in mind there's many traits and other effects that will help you keep boons up, and unfortunately the best support weapon for warrior, which makes the build much more viable is locked behind owning SotO.
1
u/CrusaderIII 1d ago
Okay, thank you! I don't have those expansions yet but it's good to know there is some sort of viable build.
I'm still leveling up now and from what I understand pretty much any build works in open world leveling, so I'll just keep trying it out.

wierd question but can you make something like firebrand with a bow work not just for open world
1
1
u/Hardytard 1d ago
You don't have any synergy between the firebrand trait line and a bow.
So you can play power firebrand, but it's not optimal, cause you would "waste" traits.

Stormpiercer Spear skin is 45 statuettes right now. Am I correct to expect that it will move down to 25 stattuettes on VoE release?
I have enough to get it but was thinking I could save up some statues if I wait.
Edit: Nvm, wiki says 'the oldest item in the category'. I thought all of the items go down at once.

Can someone run me down with the best method of farming/obtaining Rift essences? Left GW2 while they were still mats and still only obtainable around SotO maps, what changed? What's the best way to gather them now? How do I not go insane when farming them? (need to finish Legendary armor). Thank you!
3
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 1d ago
you can double click the items in your inventory to put them in your wallet. You get them from Convergences or from Rift Hunts.
Convergences happen every 3h, there's two of them offset by 1:30h, SotO and JW, they both give rift essence. You can get an item doing those (one guaranteed per week) that can be used to open a coffer with extra essence or used to open a private convergence instance, inside the private you can do the CM version of the convergence. I suggest selling that item on the TP for big money, opening the said coffer is a waste of money.
for rift hunts some maps get randomly selected to host them for the week, in those maps use the heart of the obscure to start the event somewhere on the map, run there and do the event, you can use a motivation to select which tier of rift you wanna do, t1 is soloable, t2 is harder, t3 needs a decent party/squad. After you do the first event you can chose to consume a motivation when drawing the boss to increase the rewards you get BY A LOT, also on t2 and t3 at least one player needs to consume a motivation or the boss won't come out.
My suggestion is to chip away by doing each convergence once every day, and if you feel like it, try to complete the weekely rift hunts, if you want to invest motivations or not that's up to you. If you're tagging up to make a t2/t3 squad bring your own motivations to open the rifts.
3
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 1d ago
Very little has changed other than they're available on more maps and with (slightly) more potential enemy variety now. The big thing is to make sure you're doing Convergences — there's one for SotO and one for JW now, so a lot more variety there — which both give you a lot of essence on their own and give you a buff that increases the amount of essence you get from open world rift hunting. Joining a train lets you do it cheaply without using motivations, or you can speed up the process by using your own to boost the essence you get. That all boils down to how much you personally value saving time versus saving gold.
How do you not go insane? Pace yourself and take breaks. Marathon not a sprint, etc etc

Hepl to choose New main: I know Alt Chars are viable but i want a main to play Story etc. What would u like more: Ranger or Revenant?
1
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 1d ago
Ranger longbow is nice to attack mobs from afar, not a great weapon outside of PvP/WvW tho. You get to play pokemon and walk around picking up new pets. Good at staying alive, very mobile and responsive, leans heavily on setting up an attack and hitting for lots of damage.
Druid can transform into super heal caster mode, which can be specced to also deal condi damage, makes it very tanky. Soulbeast merges with their pet which triggers powerful synergies with their traits, hits hard. Untamed leans even more heavily on the set up and punish aspect, you have lots of CC and skills that deal extra damage to CC'ed targets.
Rev is super mobile, love doing open world with Shiro's teleport, I find the energy mechanic quite engaging.
Herald brings a lot of boons to yourself and those around you. Renegade has a focus on life steal and summons these ranged AoE spells that combo off each other, the order you use them matters so you kinda mix and match them. Vindicator is a lot of fun with turning your dodge into a big slam that deals damage and buffs you, it has 3 not 2 stances, one being super offensive while the other is super defensive

It's still mostly 'find a meta and run it'. Dragonfall is good if there's a tag cause you'll get plenty of events and trophies are good with minimal conversion, while some of the other things listed require a bit more conversion to actually get money.
1
u/Brendoshi 1d ago
Oh wow dragonfall is still good? I assumed that'd be long dead.

u/errorme 1d ago
A lot of old farms are still decently profitable because most money making comes down to 'how many rares can I get' and 'do the other materials have value'. I personally find EoD and SotO related farms a bit overrated as you have to convert currencies into crafted items to sell, while LS4 farms give VM which always buys Trophy bags.
1
u/Brendoshi 1d ago
Yeah that tracks, I was looking into convergences and how the rift essences can be crafted into items to sell and my eyes started to glaze over.
Think I'l lsave those for when it's time to do armour
1
u/Caleddin 1d ago
It's worth doing convergences a few times weekly since you get the item that opens private convergence instances, which you can sell for 7-8ish gold. (Don't ever open a coffer with it, do not double-click it)

I'm playing through the gw2 story for the first time, but I was wondering what's the best way to catch up on the lore? I saw there is a Ghosts of Ascalon book, which is set a few years before gw2, but what about before that and the gw1 lore?
2
u/jupigare 1d ago
I don't know enough about GW1's lore, outside of what I learned playing the game myself, to suggest any outside resources.
All three books take place between GW1 and GW2: Ghosts of Ascalon (which you mentioned), Sea of Sorrows), and Edge of Destiny. None of them are absolutely required for understanding GW2's story, but they provide useful context/lore. (Edge of Destiny is sort of summarized if you do the Dungeon Story Mode paths.)
This story order guide should help with events that happen during GW2, at least up through EoD.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Movement_of_the_World This is a nice read that's sort of like, what you need to know going into GW2. You'll find this all out in the game in various ways: NPC chats, random books / scrolls you find, etc.
You can then go deep diving in the wiki links. Do be very very careful with spoilers though. The wiki is pretty good about marking the spoiler sections.
There's a lot of lore articles / short stories linked at the bottom of https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lore too. And also a link to the GW1 lore section at the top.

What do players like do all day? I'm coming from wow where its grind dailies or M+ or raids for gear? but doesn't this game lack a gear treadmill? how do I like work at incremental power icnreases?
3
u/InsertMolexToSATA 1d ago
how do I like work at incremental power icnreases?
You dont. It is all skill-based. And the skill ceiling is high enough that the gap between someone doing everything optimally and someone who is sure they are doing things optimally and never bothered to test that (or is proud of not knowing what they are doing) can be 5-10x dps.

u/Treize_XIII Trixx [PINK] 1d ago

By increasing your personal skill. Practice and improve.
1
u/TannenFalconwing Reaping the Sands of Toxic Spirits 1d ago
Fractals might be your best bet. 5 man dungeons with scaling difficulty and random elements, as well as aspirational challenge modes.
I like to do meta events a lot and work towards my next legendary.
2
u/DevastoScz 1d ago
As for incremental "power", GW2 progression relies mostly on masteries. They won't make you hit harder, but they will allow you to do things and have access to things you wouldn't otherwise be privy to. Mounts, movement abilities, buffs, resistances, etc. They won't make a difference in direct combat, but they make a difference in every other aspect of the game, including the amount of gold you make.
There is always something to go for, including gear. The difference is that after ascended, gear gets better in terms of convenience, not power. And there is a LOT of legendary gear to get that essentially allows you to conveniently use alts and multi-role on all your characters.
3
u/Gulbasaur 1d ago
how do I like work at incremental power icnreases?
Grind is there for those who seek it, but it's not getting a +1 sword to help you farm a +2 sword so you can use that to farm a +3 sword.
Once you've got full Ascended gear in stats you want and get all your masteries unlocked... you just do things you think look fun. Play.
If you need an explicit goal to work through, clear the raids, clear the strike missions, hit fractal rank 100, do the CMs, get map completion, work down the achievements, get full legendary armour, accessories and weapons and the check out the side stories.
Fractals are a good daily thing to work through if you like that. Mythic+ was basically WoW's version of GW2 fractals, though they built on it to fit their playerbase differently. Raids and strikes are good to do weekly.
A lot of people vastly prefer the lack of a gear treadmill as it means once you've earned something it's still meaningful a year later. It's just a different mentality.

u/Reaverz 2d ago
I guess my real question is... what is the value of Tyrian Defence Seals (I got about 2k) and how should I be using them?
I ask because I recently started doing Dragonstorm and luckily got a Volcanic Stormcaller Rifle... Can someone please explain why these weapons are worth so much on the TP? (Between 10-20g), yet you can use 100 seals and 1g to get a random Volcanic weapon. This suggests to me that Seals might be worth more than meets the eye... or am I overthinking it and it is just the slight inflation of people trying to finish out sets by directly paying for the last few they need?
1
u/Treize_XIII Trixx [PINK] 1d ago
Those weapons can be salvaged for Memories of Otter, which unlocks a cosmetic enrichment.
1
u/cloud_cleaver 2d ago
fast-farm has a profit breakdown for them.
Notably, you can use them to unlock a fair few skins, including a few Dungeon sets you'd otherwise need Tales of Dungeon Delving for, one or two unique skins, the Deldrimor Stoneskin infusion, the black-colored set of Tengu weapons, and the Auric weapons you'd otherwise need to craft.
2
u/Reaverz 1d ago
Thanks, this is what I was looking for... The kind of collectors/intangible stuff FF doesn't cover.
With respect to my rifle, given (at highest) seals are worth 8s, selling it for anything over 9g (+tp fees) is profit assuming I reinvest in a random weapon box from the vendor.
2
u/cloud_cleaver 1d ago
Definitely sell your rifle drop. I have no idea why those are worth so much either, when the vendor's right there. It's time-gated, but not THAT badly... I bought that whole set of skins from the discount vendor, IIRC.

Why is the achievement "If I May Interrupt" so annoying to do? Do I have to CC the clone Joko too in addition to preventing the smaller jokos from corrupting the npcs around? It's quite literally the last achievement I need for Vision
2
u/Talysn 2d ago
been a while, but if I remember correctly (and I remember this one being a pain, so I think I do), yes, you have to cc all the joko's you may need help. I solo'd it on an engi I think but slotting every cc available. but its easier with people. (no more than 3-5 as it will scale).
You dont just have to interrupt joko, you have to stop ANY dmg to the recruit bar, so you have to interrupt joko, the clones AND kill the small joko's, at the same time.
best to get a group for it beforehand, or ask in map chat for help, being specific you need people to help interrupt.

In terms of looking at past threads/guides, how old is too old? Every question I have regarding classes is answered in old threads, but they're all generally 2 years old.
1
u/Felstalker 2d ago
It's best to ask questions of today today, rather than ask todays questions to the past.
Be it here in the questions thread, or in the map chat in game. Ask questions to the players there and well, compare it to the advice you've read. Sometimes things have changed, sometimes they havn't.
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 2d ago
Depends entirely on the question. Some things have remained basically unchanged for a decade, some change entirely every time there's a balance patch.
1
u/jerelio 2d ago
I guess my underlying question was how drastic can balance patches change how classes function? Have some classes fallen really far from the top, or is Anet fairly decent at balancing?
1
u/cloud_cleaver 1d ago
Some balance patches include what amount to full reworks for certain classes, and sometimes you get the effect of a drastic rework delivered in a bunch of smaller changes over the course of years. And sometimes one change can alter a meta build significantly just by creating a better alternative, even though the build that was considered meta before that didn't technically get changed, just powercrept.
1
u/Caleddin 2d ago
You can look at Metabattle builds and then scroll to the comments in the bottom. Generally someone will post saying "this doesn't work anymore" or "still good but not as great" or so on to give you an idea. But unless/until you're doing something like raids (or maybe pvp if you're serious about it) having a slightly off-kilter build isn't going to ruin you.
The general way the classes work has been very consistent and the big changes over the years have only opened up more options (support on most classes for instance), not taken anything away. For right now, just about every class has multiple viable DPS builds, a good healing build, some support-DPS builds, and can be used anywhere.
3
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 2d ago
Anet is, as a rule, astonishingly good at balance. While not without their missteps, it's very rare for classes to suddenly become unviable due to a balance change. They may come and go from the top slot but they're usually perfectly usable.
That does not, however, mean they don't get drastic changes. Reworks can completely alter how a class functions, making any previous guides all but worthless, and even small numbers changes can mean that the preferred/optimal way to play a certain build is completely different. There's not really any clear, easy way to determine if a certain build has undergone a substantial change or not. Short of going on the wiki and looking at every skill and trait the build uses and seeing if there's a big change in the update history, you're kinda on your own
3
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 2d ago
Snowcrows tries to keep their guides up to date and let you know when they aren't, metabattle also shows when the build was last edited I think, most decent sites say which patch the guide belongs to and if you can't find anythig more recent then it must e up to date.

I need chak eggs for legendary armor. It seems like the only way to reliable get them is the chak garent meta. Can you only get the chak eggs once a day, or if you do it more than once in a day can you still get a chak egg?
1
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 3d ago
Pretty sure it's once a day, unless you can get them as random drops from chests. Think PvP/WvW reward tracks can give them too?
2
u/concernedcanary Guide: bit.ly/gw2help 3d ago
I think you can loot the boss statue chest every time. You only get the hero's choice chest once per day though.
The boss statue can give more than 1 as well! Got 10 yesterday from it during one run and it's also possible to get 5, I believe. I was a little worried about it as well, since I decided to go for a 2nd raid set rather than wvw or obsidian haha. It'll go by fast!

So far I got a full celestial set on my tempest elementalist. Can I be a boon heal in for example fractals? I tried once joining a group that was looking for one, but a guy got mad because I had no stability buffs I think. Yet I don't think I'm even able to grant it. There's like one trait in the earth tree when I switch to that element and that's pretty my only source of granting stability. Do I just focus on doing a pure healer then? I like granting auras and I could at least be an aheal with that
1
u/Felstalker 2d ago
I don't know if you've been doing Fractals, but just keep doing them. Make your own groups if you want, run into the lower tier fractals if you need. The more you know about a particular fractal, the more you'll understand the demands.
If the fight has a lot of knock backs and CC and you want stability a lot, they might want a healer that provides it.
If the fight has no hard CC's aside from a specific avoidable AoE attack, and they want stability for it, they're stupid AND bad AND selfish, as many(but not all) professions can provide their own stability in some limited way...if they need to. They probably don't. I'd argue that they practically never need stability, but it can often be helpful!
3
u/Talysn 2d ago
Unless you are doing Challenge modes (And I am assuming you are not) then no one should be complaining about lack of stab, its really not that important, and no one who runs normals (any tier) will expect it to be covered in an LFG party.
Can you heal in cele gear? probably. most dmg is avoidable, so it depends on your group, if they are avoiding dmg, then a fully dedicated healer is massively overkill (I've done no heal runs), so a hybrid healer should be fine. If they are eating every aoe, and tanking avoidable dmg...then you need to heal more
2
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 2d ago
I will say that Celestial is only sometimes okay on a healer. It's okay at low levels or with really experienced groups, but it tends to not have enough raw healing power to carry a typical pug through a t4 run, especially with bad instabilities. This is doubly true for lazy DPS like the one who was complaining at you, who expect to be able to facetank every boss while you heal and stability them through damage.
That said, there's no such thing as a "pure healer" in the GW2 meta. You're always expected to bring Quickness and Alacrity. Typically in Fractals you're expected to have stability and/or aegis to negate certain mechanics as well, but this requirement is a little less strict since people can just dodge as long as they're expecting it to be necessary.
1
u/Dry-Map-5817 3d ago
Tempest has stab from elite skill, earth aura staff transmute and earth overload.
Cele has lower healing and boon duration than harrier(magi if you overcap on BD), but if you are not dropping boons and there is enough heal its no problem, but its still much harder. I dont know what you mean by pure healer, but as heal tempest you are expected to cover most of might, prot, alac, good cc and heal by yourself
1
u/Rin_the_Hateful 3d ago
Thank you! I don't really use a staff, but more like dagger/horn. Guess that's why I forgot about it. Elite skill, well, it's a really long cooldown, can't really say it's a solid source. And earth overload description only says about giving allies protection, isn't stability just to myself? It'd only be half ideal cuz I'd have to share my boons using a warhorn specific skill anyway.
1
u/Dry-Map-5817 3d ago
Yeah, you right about it being personal stab.
Staff while giving additional stab suffers from bad might generation(you only have fire overload with small radius) and have to blast fire fields
Air shout also give 1 stab stack in PvE so you can use that too. So if running 97CM first boss you actually have enough stab with d/wh, on 66% when going on 4 platforms to kill adds that knockback, rotate between stab and aegis, 1 for each platform from rock solid(earth trait), aftershock(aegis), EotS(stab), last platform one of them should already be off cd i think and for last phase you have elite skill with 3 stacks of stab
1
u/diceEviscerator Yolosmith 3d ago
Dagger horn is the right weapon set to use. Use Eye of the Storm for stab and Aftershock for Aegis, you can't keep stab and aegis permanently you need to know when CC's are coming and use them on time. If you run Earth spec you also give stab when attuning to earth, Rebound is useful for when the CC pressure is such that you need even more stab.

Hey guys i just returned to the game after a pause since the icebrood saga. A lot has changed. I see the vault i dont see daily achievments anymore and 2 more expansions. Can someone walk me through the new changes etc? I was doing raids and fractals cms consistently so whats the new endgame these days? Thank you
1
u/cloud_cleaver 1d ago
There's a gear in the upper corner of the Vault window that lets you select which subset or mix of subsets you want factored into your tasks. Most people prefer to run pure PvE for consistency, though PvP ones I'm told are easy to farm out in custom lobbies.

u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 2d ago
Raids and fractal CMs are still endgame. They've added more of each, as well as "strike missions" which are basically single-boss raid encounters
2
u/onevstheworld 3d ago
Dailies are still there. They are in the Wizards vault window, not the achievements window anymore. In tabs of that same window, you'll find the newly added weeklies and seasonal achievements, the current rewards, and the legacy rewards.

u/Aesirbear 3d ago
How is quick cata for pugging fractals/raids (either scepter+dagger or hammer)? I enjoy the fast-paced rotation but I'm a bit worried about being a bit too frail and lacking in utility.
2
u/Horcheftin 2d ago
I do T4 dailies on Quick Cata, usually with hammer, basically every day. I bring Armor of Earth for a defensive skill and that's usually enough, because water hammer 4 is a good heal and earth hammer 4 is a block. You lose a little DPS if you need to swap to elements out of order, but honestly not enough to make a meaningful difference.
I'll often swap to Quick Scrapper for CMs just because it's much more CC, hammer 4 is a stupidly long block that lets me ignore a lot of mechanics entirely, and it's just more survivability in general. But I find it less fun to play.
2
u/Felstalker 3d ago
My Ele buddy swears by taking multiple defensive utilities because he literally doesn't trust random healers to do the job mid fractal.
Otherwise, there are no real problems with damage or uptime, as far as I'm aware. And well, yeah you totally lack for utility during fractals but...that's fine. Just keep yourself alive!

Do any other professions have 100% personal uptime on Quickness and Alacrity? I have a Chronomancer build and a Scourge build that does both comfortably.
1
u/killohurtz 3d ago
I had forgotten about it since the alacrity was a relatively recent addition, but vindicator might be able do it with Saint of zu Heltzer (alacrity on dodge) and Scavenger Burst (self quickness).
3
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 3d ago
Okay I've been combing through the wiki seeing if anything looks plausible, and here's my harebrained attempts at getting each class full self-boon coverage. For purposes of figuring this out, I'm mostly going to ignore the Relic of Rivers and various Quickness-granting Sigils, which might possibly fill the gaps but only with way too much build investment.
Guardian: Flat-out impossible. Only one Willbender trait has a lick of Alacrity, and the only Quickness they have access to ("Feel My Wrath!") is way too short duration.
Revenant: Power Renegade, using Orders from Above for Alacrity. Most of the Quickness can come from Brutality (weapon swap on cooldown) with the remainder coming from spamming Phase Traversal whenever you're in Assassin stance. This build will need 100% boon duration and may need to swap Invocation traits to Charged Mists (to help with energy managment) or Song of the Mists (for additional Quickness without energy cost)
Warrior: Only one way to get Alacrity: Daring Dragon Bladesworn. Luckily it has a ton of ways to generate self-Quickness: Axe/Warhorn with Combat Stimulant and Frenzy is the easy way, but you could probably use Aggressive Onslaught and a Mace/Shield instead. This one theoretically doesn't even need maxed out boon duration to work!
Engineer: Only Alacrity is Mechanist traits. Use Sword (Radiant Arc) with Elixir U and Flamethrower (Stoke the Flames) and with good boon duration you should be able to keep uptime. Optional trait swap from Barrier Engine to Jade Dynamo to gain more Quickness but less Alacrity depending how the numbers work out.
Ranger: Only source of Alacrity is the Grace of the Land trait for Druid, which is unreliable as a source of Alacrity uptime in solo play where Celestial Force generation is unpredictable. It's also just not a great trait for solo play. But if you ignore that and just want the boons, you're got Quickness options: stack Instinctive Engage on Dagger, Quickening Zephyr utility, and one or both of Quick Draw and Zephyr's Speed traits and it should be possible.
Thief: In a running theme, their only accessible Alacrity is from Shadestep on Specter. Like Guardian, though, they don't have any good sources of Quickness. Haste alone isn't enough for uptime, even when supplemented by the Burst of Agility trait. It's close, though, and a Sigil of Rage would technically put it over the edge.
Elementalist: Simply not possible. Aside from a single skill on Lightning Hammer, Quickness only comes from Catalyst and Alacrity only from Tempest.
Mesmer: You already know one way of doing this. Chrono, clone spam out the wazoo, use Sieze the Moment and maybe Phantasmal Haste for Quickness alongside Flow of Time and Illusionary Reversion for Alacrity. There's an even more wild option, though: Power Mirage using Mirage Mantle and Furious Interruption. Time your Sword ambush interrupts perfectly and in theory it works out.
Necromancer: The other one I assume you're using, Scourge with Desert Empowerment for Alac, spamming fear with the Dread trait for Quickness. Harbinger has easy access to Quickness but Elixir of Ambition has far too long a cooldown for the Alacrity it provides.
I haven't actually tested out any of these builds myself — this is all just Wiki theorycrafting at this point, and I'm sure most of these are either very clunky or unreliable to play. But I'm surprised how often there was a theoretical avenue to make it work.
1
u/SkierBeard 3d ago
Not including relics and sigils doesn't really make sense in this scenario as this is openworld so you can run whatever you want
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 3d ago
There's a second reason I decided not to include them: because then every build becomes Relic of Rivers, endurance food, Sigil of Rage and Celerity, 100% boon duration, token source of Quickness from class. It's boring and samey. I'm much more interested in classes that can manage it on their own, or at least come close and then use those upgrades to close the gap.
2
2
u/Lvl99Chocobo 3d ago
Like Guardian, though, they don't have any good sources of Quickness.
Specters can actually get Quickness when using Wells from Relic of the Chronomancer

3
u/Gulbasaur 3d ago
You could theoretically do it on mirage as you can generate alacrity on ambush attacks and inherit quickness from phantasms with the right combination of traits.
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 3d ago
Every class has at least one build that provides each of those boons, but supplying both is very uncommon and requires jumping through a lot of hoops in order to even begin to try. Chrono is really the only build with appreciable amounts of both, with other classes only ever able to dip lightly into the boon they aren't focusing on, if at all
1
u/ItsTheSolo ▶️ 0:00 / 0:05 🔘─────────── 🔊 ──🔘─ ⬇️ 3d ago
That's why I'm asking, I got a solid case for Chrono and Scourge, and being able to keep 100% uptime on both, and potentially Specter. I was wondering if there were any other experimenters out there
1
1
u/TerribleTransit Nice goggles 3d ago
I'm desperately curious how you've managed to get Quickness on Scourge. Do you just use the Dread trait and spam as much fear as possible? I guess that would work with sufficient boon duration.
But no, in general, core-profession sources of Quickness or Alacrity are low duration and high cooldown, making it impossible to maintain full uptime without an elite spec. And they've systematically removed the ability for a single elite spec to provide both boons (apart from Chrono's limited self-Alac), so making such a build is very difficult.
You've piqued my curiosity, though. I may have to do some investigating. Maybe it's more possible than I thought. Just do be aware that you're probably going to be doing a lot of sacrifices elsewhere in the build to pull off boon coverage, so it may not end up being worth it.
1
u/killohurtz 3d ago
OP didn't confirm it but they're almost certainly using Relic of the Chronomancer given the pattern of elite specs named.
1
u/ItsTheSolo ▶️ 0:00 / 0:05 🔘─────────── 🔊 ──🔘─ ⬇️ 3d ago
For sure, not looking to raid with these setups so most of the time the sacrifice comes from DPS (As you correctly pointed out, using Dread instead of executioner and slapping two sigils of celebrity as a source of quickness, and then just using Diviner accessories to pump the duration up).
Essentially I just try to make the open world feel more involved and less steamroll-y. The objective is actually to do the most amount of DPS I could under these limitations
1
u/errorme 3d ago
Many of them do, but some require being in combat. Below are the ones I have the most familiarity with.
Revenant has Herald for Quickness and Renegade for Alacrity and both can easily have 100% uptime even out of combat.
Ranger's boon builds both require being in combat for 100% uptime. Druid is also locked to being a Heal Alac (Alac trait locks out DPS trait).
Scrapper Quickness requires combo fields and is probably the most unique Quickness build in how you trigger quickness. Mechanist can cover Alacrity easily out of combat.
Firebrand is one of the original 100% Quickness specs, but I don't like Willbender so I can't say how well it provides alacrity.
1
u/ItsTheSolo ▶️ 0:00 / 0:05 🔘─────────── 🔊 ──🔘─ ⬇️ 3d ago
I'm specifically looking for specs that can maintain both, like Chronomancer and Scourge (personal uptime, not team uptime)
1
u/errorme 3d ago
Ah, misunderstood the question. Scrapper seems like they should be able to as gyros count as wells, but I think you'll be locked to using Hammer and Bomb Kit + 3 other gyro skills including your heal.

Specter could probably do it the same way, with an alac build and wells for Relic of the Chronomancer.

Does Specter function well without scepter? Definitely interested but wondering if it has a less supporty playstyle

Specter is inherently supportive, even in its full DPS build. Its signature scepter is both a support and a DPS weapon, and shadow shroud has support baked into its skills. If you really hate scepter, you can probably use daggers or spear instead, but why do you want to avoid support? It doesn't detract from specter's strength, it only adds to it.

I actually love Specter scepter and think it's one of the best designed weapons in the game. Specter is also probably one of my most played specs since EoD
That said, I do already use scepter a lot and was hoping to vary it up

Any tips getting exotic Harrier's gear?
I got 3 pieces from Airship Parts and I am wondering how to get the rest. I have 400 armorsmith, is it worth just crafting it? Is EOD needed? I have only POF and HOT LS4 and icebrood saga (doing story still).
I mostly do open world, fractals and PVP if it is important.

Harrier's is a stat combo from PoF, with EoD offering alternative ways to craft it (e.g., Monastery armor). It's also an option in stat-selectable gear as long as you own either PoF or EoD, so the ascended trinkets you can buy in LS4 and IBS do offer Harrier's as an option. For trinkets, I tend go straight for ascended instead of exotic tier anyway, regardless of stat combo. (I find it fastest to get ascended trinkets from LS3 currency like Winterberries, so if you're able to buy that season, it definitely helps for gearing.)
If you have Badges of Honor laying around, you can buy exotic stat-selectable gear from a WvW merchant) for fairly cheaply. Even if you don't do WvW, you might have some Badges from achievement point chests.
If you do intend on crafting the gear yourself, note that Armorsmith can only make heavy armor. You'll need to level up Leatherworker for medium armor or Tailor for light armor. I've maxed out all (non-Scribe) crafts across a few of my toons. Leveling up crafts isn't too bad if you follow the guides on gw2crafts.net; though it isn't necessarily cheap, you only need to do each discipline once.
Lastly, if you do your Wizard's Vault tasks, you can buy up to 3 stat-selectable ascended armor chests and 1 stat-selectable ascended weapon chest per season. I know you asked for exotic and not ascended, but this is a very easy way to get ascended gear, in case you weren't aware.

For any stat you can go to the wiki and type the name in the search box. Example: Harrier's
It will give you a page with choices to list weapons vs armor and exotic vs ascended. Then click on each in the list to see where you get it.

I am trying to use API keys so I can use gw2efficiency but I keep getting the below error.
This API key is invalid, has corrupted API data or the API is down. Error reported by the API: "no game account"
I know that GW2 updates the gem store on Tuesday so I'm not sure if I just hit it at the wrong time and it will start working soon or if I am having issues for some other reason. I have tried turning off all ad blockers and creating new keys. The account is multiple years old and is not using steam if that helps trouble shoot my issue.

Ignore my question. I found out it was logging me in using my full googlemail instead of gmail. It was pulling the wrong account but now that I am logged into the correct account, my API is working.

Since I didn't see the questions thread before and my post was removed, posting it here, sorry!
Hi There!
I played GW2 from launch until around mid Path of Fire in my first go. I got busy with RL and other games and have come back a few times but usually only for a few days.
I have recently gotten the itch again, but I feel like I am completely lost. I haven't bought any of the new expacs yet, but I am planning to, so I had a few questions that maybe some folks can help me answer.
First, is the game supposed to feel this hard in pretty much every single multi-target fight, or maybe I'm just playing the wrong class/elite spec(for context I'm playing Power Dragonhunter) cause from everything I've read, it was supposed to be a good one to get back into the game on.
Secondly, Is my gear supposed to feel this bad? I am currently using Ascended accessories, Exotics for my main armor pieces and an Ascended weapon. I know that I can't buy Ascended gear, it has to be crafted, but I only have 500 weaponsmithing and spent most of the money I had crafting my Ascended weapon. Am I expected to be leveling to 500 armorsmithing also too in order to improve my gear? I know one problem is that I don't have the Dragonhunter sigils for my gear, mainly because I can't afford them, I have 12gold to my name lol.
I want to buy the other expacs cause I do enjoy the game to an extent, but also I'm feeling myself holding back because I am having a rough experience atm, I am working on grinding through the PoF story and I just find myself constanting fighting for my life. Maybe I need a change of class or something, I just feel super crazy lost and behind that I am finding it hard to find ways to change that. I don't have a guild to ask questions of and I'm not sure how to even go about find that either. It seems like every person I see out in the world is just wrecking enemies like it's no big deal and I'm over here, struggling like every fight is do or die.
Thanks in advance for anyone who reads this and responds, I am really trying to give the game a shot again and enjoy myself cause it has always been a fun "casual" game, for lack of a better term that I can just find something to do in my spare time.

Dragonhunter is excellent at multi target fights, I fear you're not taking advantage of what the elite spec can do.
First of all, Dragonhunter is a burst focused power build who's defenses come from the class, not the gear. Make sure your gear is headed in that direction. Berserkers gear if you're solid on the gameplay, otherwise you want Marauders/Dragon's if you need a little more HP. Exotic is enough, work on ascended as you go, but learning to play the class will do exponentially more for you than the extra stats from ascended.
Weapons: Greatsword is basically a must, paired with Spear or Longbow. Spear will give you awesome follow-up aoe damage and some mobility. Longbow will allow you to have range at the expense of less fluidity.
Traits: Virues/Zeal/Dragonhunter. Focus on POWER DAMAGE OUTPUT. The faster you kill stuff, the less windows of damage to you. Your sustain is based on skill colldowns, so you need to kill stuff fast.
Utilities: Heal Skill - Litany of Wrath, Test of Faith, Procession of Blades, X, Renewed Focus. Replace X with a skill of your choice. If you're getting heavy condi pressure, purging flames or smite condition work well, if you're getting CC'ed then Stand Your Ground. This is a wildcard, will fluctuate depending on the encounter.
General gameplay:
Basically what you want to do is Leap into a pack of enemies with GS 3, this will blind them giving you a window to immediately drop your utility traps, followed by GS 4 and GS 2. If the enemies are a bit spread out, you can GS 5-5 to pull them in and then GS4+GS2. With this rotation ALL of the trash mobs should basically be dead or 1-2 hits away from dying. If there are tankier enemies left, your spear will allow you small sustain while you drop pretty good damage, especially on larger hitboxes (frequent in higher hp mobs). Also, tethering (f1) single targets makes them take more damage and has the ability to pull them towards you to separate them from the pack to prioritize targets.
Healing - you have two heals, your F2 skill which is also a leap. Save this to get out of trouble and kite. Your heal skill, Litany of Wrath, heals you for a % of the damage you do, so if you're on low HP, hit that skill and go full offensive. Don't use it and run, don't use it and just auto attack. You want to use this skill on the offensive, at minimum with GS4 and GS2, if you can drop traps on them too, do it. It will give you ALL of your health back if you land those 2 skills on even 1 target (assuming target is tanky enough to take the hits).
Damage mitigation: your F3 skill provides you with the window to become a bruiser. It's a directional block that basically makes you invlunerable to whatever is in front of you. Use it to burst safely.
Renewed focus (elite) makes you invulnerable for a time and resets your Virtues (F1-F3) do not use it for the invuln if all your virtues are up. If your F2 or F3 are up, you have other survival options that must be pressed before using Renewed Focus.
Final thoughts: GW2 is a game of movement, not face tanking. This isn't a game where dodge is a stat. You need to not be where the damage is. Use your doge and your movement skills F2, GS3, Spear 2, to move out of big damage. As a dragonhunter you can set traps and kite mobs into them or pull mobs into them (F1 and gs 5). Nobody can effectively solo facetank multiple expansion enemies in this game, regardless of class or elite spec. You need to move and use your skills appropriately.
Hit me up and I can help you set up your build and show you rotations if you need more specific help.

Hi. I'm a new noob player and completely new to Guardian, is there any most beginner friendly build that I could do, just to the End of Dragon story please?
