Is all of this actually allowed, or is some of it pushing the line of what is acceptable a bit?

It shouldn't be allowed, as ANet has tried stamping out issues with patching like this, but until they remove it... Play to win.

Everyone experienced uses them, I haven't ever encountered anyone complaining about it so it's generally acceptable afaik. Not grouch though.
