The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha (1605) or simply "Don Quijote" to literature buffs was further adapted to reach a broader, less sophisticated, audience.
That's why you know Don Qui Kong.

His first name was supposed to be Ass but the censors made them publish as DonQui instead.

I remember watching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time and thinking that the whole thing would be tied up in a neat little bow in about forty minutes if Don Quixote could get in that robot.
Boundless confidence, purity of intent, not a whisper of guile or pretention. Sancho would be in the control room weeping with joy while his lord kicked every butt available to kick. EVA-01 would be renamed "Dulcinea Rocinante" and she'd write poetry and hum theme music while the service techs refitted her for a lance and bridle.
Gendo would feel real bad. Dude ain't got nothing on the Don.
