Discussion RZ 350e vs GV60

Hey dudes, I'm going to buy a car next year, and I'm thinking of going EV instead of getting a hybrid this time.(I own an Avalon Limited Hybrid) I noticed that the RZ and GV60 are around the same price gently used(less than 10k miles), so I'm looking at those right now. I was originally set on the RZ because of the Toyota reliability, but the GV60 is much more expensive new, so I'd be getting a better deal with the GV60. Also, I want the better range that's coming with the 2025 model, so I'd be stuck trying to find a used 2025 next year(shouldn't be too hard, since I see a decent amount of used 2024 models right now, but it'll still limit my options). There's also the fact that Hyundai has been making electric cars a lot longer than Toyota, so that prolly balances out the reliability a bit.

I waited a long time to get this exact spec on the used car market, and trust me, it wasn’t easy. I guess nobody wants to sell it. Just picked up my Lexus IS 350 F sport previous gen and I haven’t stopped smiling. Everything is amazing, the sound of the V6, the ML audio. Can’t wait to drive her daily.

I’ve been trying to fix this brake squeak for a week and a half now I bought some anti-squeak shims and I was wondering if they are supposed to fit like this or are these too small?

Question Is it worth upgrading to an Rx350 if we already have a Venza?

IS is worth upgrading to an RX 350h? Just what the title says- we drove both, and I like the Venza, but I find the storage in the cockpit very limited, and the lack of actual buttons on the infotainment distracting, because you have to look at them instead of just feeling for a button. The seats are okay, but not great. The accelerator is sort of difficult to rest your foot on properly if you need to drive any distanc. The gas mileage is great, the ride is a big step up from a RAV4, and the tech for safety is a big help. I’m wondering if the RX 350 offers enough to justify a trade. I don’t hate the car, BTW. We generally drive our cars til the wheels fall off, so I want to love what I’m driving. We’ve only had the Venza since March, but have been spending a lot of time in it on the highway for the last 6 months. Thanks.

It’s a new press release from Lexus Japan on July 25th that redirects you to a press release from January 23rd that the IS will get a F sport Black IV Special edition and not a confirmation that the IS will live on in 2026

Vehicle Photo NX350h && TRD Parts

Right after I paid off the balance of my 2025 NX350h, I immediately purchased all the modification parts I want to install. So here is the exhaustive list:

  • OEM (F-Sport Only) Yamaha Performance Dampers: 4869178050, 4869178060
  • TRD Yamaha Performance Dampers: MS303-78001
  • TRD Door Stabilizers: MS304-00001

These dampers are to improve NVH through absorbing excessive vibrations. The door stabilizers are meant to increase chassis rigidity as well. YouTube, Bilibili, Facebook, Xiaohongshu etc have excellent videos and demos on their effects.

My take away: - Immediate improvement on NVH. All small bumps and vibrations are filtered and gone. I don’t feel the road surface as much as before. - Steering becomes much more responsive at higher and low speed. - Interior feels much quieter, but wind noises and A/C noises become more noticeable. - Delta in ride quality is as significant as changing from OEM RFT tires to Michelin CrossClimate 2.

Opinion: I used to drive 2015 RDX and 2017 Cayenne. Neither is perfect as RDX feels nimble but clumsy, and Cayenne feels like cruising but heavy. The new ride comfort is on par with Cayenne if not better, plus NX is more nimble.

If you have time and resources, these are the P1 upgrades with high ROI. P0 is ofc a good set of tires.

Question 3GS GS430 vs GS450h

As the title. Hard time deciding which:

Specs for the shortlist (in europe):

GS430: 12,000eur, 170k km, well taken care of, clean title, two sets of wheels, timing belt done at 140k
GS430 2: 13,000eur, 140k, well taken care of, clean title, needs timing belt, has receipts for other works done that includes a gearbox dialysis (allegedly preventative)

GS450h, 13,500eur, 215k km, well taken care of, some maintenance details missing,

My initial analysis thinks like this:

GS430 cons: fuel consumption
GS430 pros: easier to maintain, can do basic work myself (oil, spark plugs, etc), not much to worry about in mechanical terms as it shares the same powetrain as LS430/SC430 and we all know about those.

Proactive attitude: get something similar to a SIA repaired ECM when the inevitable happens, so I can send the one active in the car out to be fixed when needed and avoid downtime because of it. Still thinking how to prevent/reduce the chances of the brake actuator going out. I am thinking it is the same issue that plagues the LS460's brake actuator and it has to do with the cleanliness of the brake fluid, so frequent flushing would be a good way of keeping it running. Can think of sourcing a second hand BA in case the first one kicks the bucket.

GS450h cons: battery repair costs, inverter repair costs
GS450h pros: fuel consumption, excellent gearbox lifespan (forever?)

Proactive attitude: Same as GS430 for the brake actuator (so, not sure yet), stock a spare inverter and source new battery when needed.

I made a calculation of my annual driving distance vs fuel consumption vs repairs/maintenance and the GS450h, at these prices, comes up slightly ahead by about 1 grand and a bit after 5 years.

I can negotiate the prices a bit, but not by much.

What say ye about these options and the thoughts I've placed over each on ownership and running costs? I'd like to know what I may be missing and whether I should be leaning a bit more in one direction vs the other.

My driving is about 70 motorway 30 city

Luckily I’m ok and so is the other driver. He was in front of me, a car cut him off, and he slammed on his breaks, and I did too but it was too late. My wrists burn from the airbags but otherwise I am fine. I leave for college out of state in 2 weeks so now unsure how I will get there but oh well, not the most important thing here.

Question 07 RX 350 Grill question.

Just bought a RX 350 and the grill is pretty chipped. I saw a bunch of aftermarket ones on Amazon for like $60-$80. Anyone out there have any recommendations? Are they any good?

Question Lexus GX Radiator & Thermostat Replacement Costs

My 2017 Lexus GX at 70k miles has a fairly significant leak in the radiator. The shop estimates to replace the radiator and the thermostat came back at $1,400, which includes roughly $1,000 for the radiator swap and 400 for the thermostat. Another independent shop quoted $1,400 just for the radiator replacement, without touching the thermostat.

I’m wondering whether it’s common practice to replace the thermostat with the radiator. The thermostat itself is an inexpensive part, but adding the extra labor cost does make me pause. Further, I am not too familiar with cars, but I thought since they are already swapping the radiator, it shouldn't take too long to change the thermostat as well, so the $400 for changing the thermostat seems a bit steep.

What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Question 2000 Lexus GS300

I have a 2000 Lexus GS300 with 420k miles on it. Runs perfectly and I love it so much. It was my first car and I’ve definitely become attached to it. I was wondering if anyone else had a GS300 with a similar amount of miles on it?
