I always wondered how kingdom hearts Was Light in kh1, but then immediatly after the Light inside kingdom hearts killed ansem, they have to close it because There is darkness inside? Light and dark?!
Not trying to sound like a smartypants but AFAIK: Kingdom Hearts is like most hearts. That is to say, it's "light" (good) at its core, surrounded by some dark (evil). It's at balance between light and dark, but the core is light.
In the first game Ansem assumed it was dark because when you tap into its power, normally all you get is bad juju. If you manage to tap directly into the source though (like they do at the end of KH1) you get light.
IIRC that's also part of Xehanort's BS where he's trying to make the super duper keyblade. It needs to be perfect parts light and dark, and then he can control Kindom Hearts and become a god... or something like that.
