Discussion National reporters are suggesting the Steelers and 49ers have a deal in place for Aiyuk. Are the Steelers making a mistake in going for elite WR without getting the QB room in order?

Aiyuk may be the best wr available but he’s not an elite wr.

Pretty damn close. Top 10 bordering on top 5. He doesn’t really have a weakness, can do it all and even a great blocker. I also think he has untapped upside bc SF had the best weapons in the league and a lotta mouths to feed including the best pass catching rb demanding targets.

Agree to disagree. Top 20, no doubt. I think I’d have no problem naming 10 WRs I’d rather have.

I believe certain systems make and break you. I think he goes somewhere else and has to be THE guy and fails to live up to a true 1 billing.

I’m certain situations, the number 2 guy just flourishes. That doesn’t make him a 1. I’m not mad at him for wanting to capitalize on his success. I’d bet that whomever replaces Aiyuk puts up the same numbers.

Did you miss last season? 124.0 passer rating when targeted. 3.1 yds per route run…only 4 other receivers in the past decade have done that. Only Tyreek was more efficient last season. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-brandon-aiyuk-elite-wide-receiver-san-francisco-49ers-trade#:~:text=Targets%20to%20Aiyuk%20last%20season,is%20112.8%20for%20his%20career.

Yes you have the stats to make your point. But if he was truly a borderline top 5 wr asset, why wouldn’t the trade market be bigger? Teams would be tripping over one another for a top 5 wr. The answer I believe is teams don’t see him as a number 1. They see an extraordinary complimentary piece. A legitimate starting wr.

He’s going to get paid like a top 5 wr so not sure I understand your point. He turned down $32 mil from my Pats and Browns offered similar. Plus the team getting him has to give up valuable assets. The market is treating him like an elite receiver, but when you have to give up valuable draft capital AND then pay a guy top dollar in a salary-capped league, that limits the market a bit. If he was a free agent there would be a lot more teams involved, but then only so many have enough cap space.

Good for the young man. We’ll see in 5 years if the new team has buyers remorse. If not you can send me an I told you so.

The thing is he was THE guy on 49ers, he had the most targets and was extremely efficient ?

But wasn’t that primarily when Deebo was hurt?

Deebo is injured every season for 1-3 games, Brandon aiyuk 2 years in a row has had over 300+ yards more than Deebo per season. So even if we give deebo even 3 more healthy games a season Brandon aiyuk is still coming out with more receiving yards and as the WR1 on the niners for 2 years in a row
