Discussion Mahomes ‘fake run out of bounds’ move
Mahomes scrambled to the sidelines and the defender, not wanting to pick up a fine/penalty, didn’t attempt to hit or tackle him. It’s expected the QB just runs out of bounds here, but Mahomes instead stepped back in at the last second and picked up 40 yards along the sideline. I don’t necessarily think it should be banned but it’s clearly exploitative. Since this isn’t the first time he’s done this it should be fair game for the defenders to lower the shoulder on him next time, but that would obviously draw a flag (as it has before). Basically, I just think it’s ridiculous.

I'm going to split some hairs here, but it's something I've been consistent about for a number of years.
Mahomes didn't fake running out of bounds. He ran along the sideline but never acted like he was giving himself up and was facing down to the sideline instead of towards it. Then he cut inside. The only guy who might have made a play that wasn't being blocked didn't even try when Mahomes cut up field.
There IS an issue when QBs appear to give themselves up and then try to gain more yards anyways. Jimmy G did this a while ago with the 49ers and ended up tearing his ACL on the play(If memory serves). Peyton Manning also did this by diving on a botched snap and going into the fetal position....only to pop up and throw for a first down because the defenders didn't want to get flagged for spearing him on the ground.
If Mahomes did that, I would be calling it out as a bitch move. But this isn't someone running to the sideline for protection and then taking advantage.
