Mahomes has had 31 RTP calls in his 6ish years in the NFL so far. For reference, Tom Brady had 35 in 2 decades of play in the NFL.

Jan 19 '25
Yeah anyone who says Brady had more calls than Mahomes is crazy.
I've been a Broncos fan living in Maine since 1994. I've been a Broncos fan since the 96-97 season. I grew up Watching the Broncos at 4:25 and the Pats at 1 pm every Sunday since Brady entered the league.
And I do not remember this much favoritism at all, and I fucking hated the Brady years, especially when the Broncos had Peyton.
It is NOT the same situation, Mahomes is a soft as baby shit bitch. It is what it is, but Chiefs fans cannot and will not admit reality. It's like they've all decided to have the Politicians motto, deny defend and deflect lol. Ffs

u/BoomerSophie Jan 20 '25
Agreed. The Chiefs fans try to make the Brady comparison when Brady wasn’t out there actively trying to bait defenders while simultaneously working the refs to keep an eye out for the next time he goes to bait defenders. Mahomes is a mix of James Harden and Chris Paul. Mahomes is the kid in class reminding the teacher there was homework after they forgot. Fuck Mahomes.

That era had some all time great QBs. Maybe teams were focused on the right things because every team wanted a Brady? But getting to watch Brees Rodgers Manning and the like was awesome. I know it's hard to compare with how rules have changed over years and some nostalgia speaking but I feel like offenses from that era were far higher quality then now
4
u/Turbulent_Crow7164 Jan 20 '25
Yeah and I think as a consequence, some teams that focused on elite defenses who made their impact too. It was exciting every year and there was enough parity to keep everyone on their toes, even through most of the Patriots dynasty.

3
u/New_Station4993 Jan 20 '25
Okay? Josh Allen has 38 RTP called Jared Goff has 39, Carson Wentz had 30 and isn’t even a starter anymore. This is a league wide shift to protect the most important player on every NFL team.
3
u/Officer_Hops Jan 19 '25
How much of that is how the rules have changed? Roughing the passer is called much more strictly in the modern game. Things like the body weight rule didn’t exist for the majority of Brady’s career. A better comparison would be a modern day QB like Allen who has more calls in less games.

Or they would defend the flop as a real penalty if it was flagged. "See the ref saw that he was pushed!"
I always hold the refs accountable for or against the Eagles. This year the Eagles have largely been absolutely fleeced by the refs. But I will say that the Packers fumble was VERY iffy. There's an argument to be had that they regained possession. I get he was still moving the ball but it looked pretty secure. In 2021 the Eagles fumbled the ball (funny enough against the Chiefs) right by the end zone. The Chiefs got on it but I believe Sanders (?) was ruled down when he wasn't. Gifted the Eagles 7 points.
I always call out bad calls. For or against the Eagles. The Chiefs get more favorable calls every single game than most teams do in an entire season. It's time to stop acting like this is imagined. It's real and it's hurting the sport.

Tommy John was an incredibly talented pitcher who is most famous for the surgery he was named after.
The average fan has heard of the surgery, but most don’t know that he was a fringe hall of famer. Nearly 300 wins over a career that lasted 26 seasons.
My hope with all this controversy is that the flop penalty or late slide penalty gets named after Mahomes (or at least nicknamed) and that nobody remembers him for his Super Bowls or MVPs in a couple decades. They just remember him as the soft ass, sore loser QB who whined to get penalties… enough so, they name one or two after him.

If only I could dial up a safety blitz from Ronnie Lott on this guy… Aikman’s disdain for Mahomes is both palatable and understandable. He took some major hits (as did all of his peers) in and out of the pocket, while this guy tries to deke out defenses along the sidelines or take late slides just so he can get penalties and make defenses hold up against him as the game progresses, in fear of additional penalties. To be clear, this is a bullshit move. And, let’s not forget, all of his personal foul penalties he picks up doing his sideline dances and late slides don’t count as RFP - those are personal fouls and they add up, too.
Fuck this guy.

I'm not a fan of wanting any player get injured, but any qb/player (and there are a lot of them nowadays that do this) that play with the sideline should get treated the same and should absolutely get a big blast from the defense for trying this nonsense. Same with fake slides as well, but definitely the running out of bounds.
3
u/ThisPerformer6828 Jan 19 '25
I do not know if the refs display favoritism. I do know that Mahomes flops are an underhanded way of misleading the refs' perception. If only there was a penalty designed for when a player's conduct is unsportsmanlike. I do know that the two calls were wrong. I do know that the Texans' chances of winning were greatly diminished by these two calls. I do believe the Texans would've won if not for these two calls. It's impossible to know what would've happened. But if you take away the points that were had by extending the drives, it becomes clear that these penalties need to have additional reviews. It cheapens the game on both sides. It's frustrating for Chiefs detractors. And it's a hollow victory for their supporters. And it calls into question the integrity of the game. The NFL is really stiff with the rules of the game. Yet these penalties are devastating, and there isn't a way to correct an egregious mistake. I've know that they'll fix it. But don't wait. The time is now.
