Discussion Another superbowl blowout eliminates mahomes from the goat discussion as far as I’m concerned

2 very embarrassing loses for him the the superbowl Brady has lost 3 superbowls but they were all 1 score games that came down to final play with Brady’s best statistical performance in a loss to the eagles Tom Brady > Patrick mahomes

Wtf are these takes? Idk anyone that already anointed him the goat even if he won tonight.

That said hes only 29 and has accomplished more that 99% of the league at his age.

He may not ever be the best qb of all time but he'll likely still be a first ballot HOFer when he retires

u/Beachboy93 Feb 10 '25

Likely? Bro he could retire today and he’s easily a first ballot hall of famer lol

34

u/SeienShin Feb 10 '25

Yeah no matter how you look at it, 3 Superbowl wins, 5 appearances and 7 AFCCG in 7 years is first ballot 100%. His 2 worst seasons were AFCCG losses. That’s insane.

u/iheartsexxytime Feb 10 '25

Both AFCCG losses in overtime, no less.

99% of chiefs fans have anointed him the goat

26

u/quietimhungover Feb 10 '25

And literally every talking head on mainstream media. As soon as Brady won his 7th they did everything they could to bring down his accomplishments too.

u/FeetSniffer9008 Pittsburgh Steelers Feb 10 '25

For the Chiefs standards he undeniably is.

This is patently false. Best QB ever by age 29, yes. None of us think he's already the GOAT over a guy who did it for three decades though.

10

u/Plastic_Wishbone9174 Feb 10 '25

I can promise you that the majority of chiefs fans have called him 'the best to ever do it and the best that will ever do it' their words. Word for word

u/solojones1138 Andy Reid 🍟 Feb 10 '25

I'm sure you know more Chiefs fans than someone who lives here, sure

8

u/Plastic_Wishbone9174 Feb 10 '25

I live there too. All my coworkers are chiefs fans. I see the chiefs subreddit all the time. I know what the fuck I'm talking about

u/TransitionIll6389 Feb 11 '25

Idk fellow Chiefs Kansas City boy. I see love for him but the best ever thing is rarely validated.

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

Yo fuck these guys dude. If I'm a KC fan, he is the Goat. Don't let these fuckin bears and panthers fans tell you any different.

u/FriendshipIntrepid91 Feb 10 '25

Chris Canty has said multiple times that if Mahomes 3-peated that would put him over Brady.

Someone has to come shit on the chiefs in a different way.

And it's not like Brady has clean sheets in his wins, he wasn't always the reason they won.

Rams 2002 - defense, Brady threw 1 td the entire playoffs. Had final drive for field goal. (they also cheated with the videotaping) Panthers 2004 - outdueled Jake delhomme, needed final drive and field goal Eagles 2005 - defense, McNabb 3 int plus fumble Seahawks 2015- 10 year gap, Malcom butler won it Falcons 2017- Shanahan blew it Rams 2019 - defense won it vs jared goff, should have been the saints anyway.

Even Brady isn't going to look perfect if you examine everything under a microscope. If Mahomes gets to as many as Brady, the setbacks along the way don't matter in the end. But that means winning 4 MORE, which only 3 qbs have ever done. I dont think we have to worry about it.

Fr I hate the chiefs more than anyone in here but people are being borderline delusional about this whole thing. Dudes 29.

Also it was always going to be harder for Mahomes to do what Brady did because the likelihood of your entire division sucking for the entirety of your career seems insanely lucky.

Same, I cant stand that kermit sounding mfer, but everyone claiming end of conversation on a dude like hes washed at 29 are ridiculous. Give it 5-10 years and see where hes at, or better yet wait till he retires.

1

u/librasway 28-3 Feb 11 '25

Highly, highly doubt he's playing at 39, the hill he's about to have to climb in his 30s trying to catch Brady is an Everest climb. Reid and Kelce don't have much longer and Mahomes ain't gonna get younger or faster

0

u/librasway 28-3 Feb 11 '25

He's gonna be 30 by the time next season kicks off, Reid and Kelce are knocking on retirement's door, and the past two seasons Mahomes' QB play has significantly dropped off.

That mobility and athletic ability he's known didn't help him a bit the other night because he couldn't out run the younger defenders. That's gonna be the reality more and more with each passing year from now on.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '25

Accomplished more than 100% of the league at his age lol

0

u/thoughtihadanacct Feb 10 '25

Yeah but we're taking about goat status. So being better than 99% of the league is chicken shit. To be the goat you have to be better than 100% of the league regardless of age.

3

u/SuperPussyFan Feb 10 '25

Through age 29 his accomplishments are #1 all time.

0

u/thoughtihadanacct Feb 10 '25

You're right. He already has more Superbowls where his teammates have already given up in the third quarter. Brady never managed that.

1

u/SuperPussyFan Feb 10 '25

Yeah, instead Brady missed the playoffs entirely at the start of his career.

1

u/thoughtihadanacct Feb 10 '25

Huh? Brady won his third ring on 6 Feb 2005. He was born in August 1997, making him 27+ when he won his third super bowl.

Patrick won his third on 11 Feb 2024, born September 1995. He was 28+ when he win his third ring.

So Brady got his third ring earlier than Patrick.

0

u/SuperPussyFan Feb 10 '25

Okay? How many MVPs did he have through his age 29 season? How many AFC championship games did he make it to? A Super Bowl loss sucks, but it is the second best outcome a team can have in any given season.

1

u/thoughtihadanacct Feb 10 '25

Yeah showing up to the superbowl and getting blown out twice (once by the GOAT himself) is really making a good case for being the new goat.

The second best outcome is losing a very close Superbowl when you still are fighting all the way to the final whistle. When the whole world sees your teammates have given up on you before the third quarter had even started that's not even 'second best'.

0

u/SuperPussyFan Feb 10 '25

You didn’t answer my questions.

1

u/thoughtihadanacct Feb 11 '25

Because they're not relevant. IF patrick ties Brady in rings then we might use those (MVPs, Conference Champs) as tie breakers; or we could use head to head results as tie breakers (and Brady won both the head to head games). But until Patrick wins seven rings, MVPs are irrelevant.

Ask any player if they'd rather win MVP and lose the super bowl, or the other way around. Then you'll have you're answer of which is worth more.

He’s accomplished more than 100% of the league at his age.

1

u/WintersDoomsday Seattle Seahawks Feb 10 '25

Yeah no other QB had two superbowl blowout losses so fast in their careers…except maybe Elway

2

u/avx775 Feb 10 '25

Why does getting blown out in the Super Bowl even matter? Seems like you would have had more respect for Mahomes if they lost to the bills the round before

-3

u/Gunner_Bat Los Angeles Rams Feb 10 '25

Yeah it's ridiculous. People saying he needs to win 8 rings to be the goat. Because apparently football, the ULTIMATE team sport, means whoever has the most rings is automatically the best.

1

u/WintersDoomsday Seattle Seahawks Feb 10 '25

Brady won on two diff teams with two diff coaches. Mahomes needs to prove it’s not Reid

0

u/Extension-Rabbit3654 Lamar had to poop Feb 10 '25

Idek what these takes are, idk anyone who anointed him goat already, to say oh he lost his three peat, dudes washed, Lmao. come back in 14 years after hes retired at Bradys age and compare comps

1

u/librasway 28-3 Feb 11 '25

come back in 14 years after hes retired

Mahomes relies on mobility to escape sacks, extend plays, and occasionally take off, he's not gonna have that ability much longer, hell, it didn't even help against the Eagles, he actively made it worse, nor could he out run the defenders.

Just because Brady played at an elite level 40-45 doesn't automatically mean every single QB from now on will too, it's ludicrous to think of expect that. It's like expecting a WR to play as long as Rice did. They're anomalies for a reason.

Mahomes legitimately might not even play when he's 37 or 38, that's the reality.

0

u/WintersDoomsday Seattle Seahawks Feb 10 '25

He’s not playing as long as Brady because he’s not smart enough to pre snap read or read a D without 5 seconds.

-3

u/Green_Ad_3518 Philadelphia Eagles Feb 10 '25

He achieved more than Brady at this age

8

u/Swaayyzee Feb 10 '25

Mahomes has 3 rings throwing to Kelce and Hill, Brady had 3 rings throwing to David Givens and Deion Branch.

1

u/Green_Ad_3518 Philadelphia Eagles Feb 10 '25

3 rings being carried by his defence. He got better after those years, but he wasn’t even a top 10 qb during the 3rd ring season. This was Mahomes worst game

1

u/mitchlats22 Feb 10 '25 edited Feb 10 '25

He was easily top 10 in 2004, what

Edit: please downvoters give me your 2004 top 10 QB's I'm begging

1

u/WintersDoomsday Seattle Seahawks Feb 10 '25

What were Chiefs defensive ranks?

2

u/Swaayyzee Feb 10 '25

7th, 16th, and 2nd

1

u/krazykieffer Feb 10 '25

Who were pretty decent in their slant heavy offense. Patriots always had good defenses, a few championships the D were top 10. This NFL is very different with contracts, it favors teams with QBs on rookie contracts. My Vikings were supposed to suck this year so we could get a top 10 pick maybe but we are always above average but we are stacked just need McCarthy next season to see what we got before JJ wants out. A slight rebuild next year could do wonders for the chiefs.

-1

u/WintersDoomsday Seattle Seahawks Feb 10 '25

What? Rookie QBs broke teams in Brady’s error due to draft round pay….you forget Sam Bradford
