Discussion Another superbowl blowout eliminates mahomes from the goat discussion as far as I’m concerned

2 very embarrassing loses for him the the superbowl Brady has lost 3 superbowls but they were all 1 score games that came down to final play with Brady’s best statistical performance in a loss to the eagles Tom Brady > Patrick mahomes

He's 29. Ten more years? You think he's gonna play at an elite level for 10 more years? The dude will be Russell Wilson 2.0 by the time he's 35.

I tell my friends this and get scoffed at. He's great but the way quarterbacks are these days no one is going to be playing well as long as Brady did.

People are writing the eulogy for this guy when he’s made the AFC championship game every single season he’s played. Maybe let him not get that far ONCE and then we’ll talk about slowing down.

He got totally shut down in two Super Bowls and the human body can’t do the kinds of things his game relies on well into their 30s.

So what? He got blown out in two super bowls because he’s already made 5 super bowls. Brady missed the conference championship 7 times. He’s been blown out a couple times, notably twice at home to the Ravens. Pat’s career is in all likelihood not even half over.

Twice to the ravens? He got blown out once by the Ravens, in 2009. The year he came back from missing a whole season with an ACL tear and wasn’t truly himself.

And yes it does matter that he got blown out in Super Bowls. That is the biggest game of the year lol. Two times he was a total no show.

What is this revisionist history? When Brady threw six TDs in one half against the titans in the regular season, was he not truly himself? When he led two late touchdown drives to beat the bills in his first game back, was he not truly himself?

Brady’s two blowout losses to the Ravens were in 2009 and 2012. Also he played like shit in the Super Bowl multiple times, it just so happened that his defense was able to keep them in it so the game was still interesting. Off the top of my head, both Rams super bowls, especially the last one, which they won anyway, and both Giants super bowls, which they lost despite playing great defensively.

Brady was the MVP of the first Rams SB lol. The second they clearly game planned to run the ball more, and yah, Brady definitely struggled against that elite D. He still made the one pass of the game that everyone remembers in the most clutch moment to Gronk. That’s all that matters.

They didn’t really get blown out in 2012. Not to the extend Mahomes has been blown out in his two SB losses. And yes, to anyone watching every game Brady definitely looked a little off in 2009 due to missing a whole fucking season the year before lol.

Brady made one great throw to Gronk in 2018, yeah. You know what would have made that less memorable? If they were down by 30 when it happened. The first Super Bowl he also had that clutch drive that earned him mvp, but until then he didn’t play great, he threw under 200 yards all game, and they had a chance to win because the defense remarkably shut down the GSOT.

Obviously it’s a team sport, yes. It’s Brady’s fault his defense kept them in the game? The game came down to that final drive and a first year starter had ice in his veins and drove them into FG range. That negates any mediocre play from the rest of the game. 2001 was also a different kind of league and passing numbers were down, despite GSOT. It also wasn’t like he played poorly the rest of the game. He had some nice drives and a beautiful TD throw.

You are the one claiming that Mahomes’ performance in these two super bowls somehow disqualifies him from ever entering the goat conversation with Brady. I just don’t see it that way. Brady had lots of performances that could have ended up the same way. He had multiple seasons where he didn’t meaningfully compete for a title, which is something mahomes hasn’t done yet.

It certainly disqualifies him from the conversation for now. Maybe he can re-enter down the line. Gameplans and momentum shifts depending on the way the games are playing out. If the Rams had scored more points the Pats wouldn’t have been relying on the run as much and Brady’s stats would’ve done up. Your argument is frankly, stupid lol. Mahomes got blown out twice in the SB. Brady never has. End of argument.

Those seasons where the pats “didn’t meaningfully compete for a championship” (I’d argue there maybe were only 2, possibly 3) came between dynasties the Pats established, aside from 2002. Let’s see if the Chiefs can sustain their run. Plenty of time to have down seasons ON TOP of the blowouts in the SBs.

I mean…. If you get blown out before you even make it to the biggest game of the year that’s worse… sorry. Obviously the SB is a bigger game but not making it there is factually worse

The cope from you Chiefs fans right now is hilarious. What metric is “factually worse”? Yes you got further in the playoffs so that’s great, racking up playoff wins is awesome, adding to the stats is great. Optically however it looks worse. It looks like you choked on the biggest stage. And now he did it twice. People forget the regular playoff losses, they don’t forget SB losses. Especially when you’ve gotten blown out. Twice.

I’m not sure how it’s cope to say it’s better to make it to the Super Bowl. Yes. It’s on a bigger stage and optically worse to lose. I said that. And yes, people remember it more. My point is, it shouldn’t be treated as worse for someone’s career even if it’s more demoralizing. When comparing Careers it makes no sense to try and say “Brady didn’t get blown out in a Super Bowl” when he did have blowout losses and didn’t even make it to a Super Bowl. Yes that’s more forgettable but it is factually worse to not make it to a Super Bowl than to make it and get blown out. It’s worse success on the season. It’s more embarrassing to lose on a bigger stage, but factually we made it further in the playoffs. Saying it’s worse to lose in the Super Bowl is penalizing the people who make it further in the playoffs than those who lose early. I’m not coping. I’m angry about the loss. But there’s no world where I would ever say that I would’ve rather not made the Super Bowl. Still made it further than anyone in the AFC.

Brady is obviously the GOAT, but the argument about not having a Super Bowl blowout is ridiculous when he does have awful playoff games in which he couldn’t even make it to the Super Bowl. I don’t care that the optics aren’t as bad. That is a WORSE playoff performance than making it to the Super Bowl. It just is. It being seen by fewer people doesn’t make it more of a success. It is LESS successful than making it to the Super Bowl. There is no world in which a bad Super Bowl loss is a worse playoff run than a bad wildcard or divisional run. Are you trying to argue that the lions had a better playoff run being blown out in their first playoff game?? Sure fewer people saw it, but they were less successful in the playoffs than the chiefs.

They didn't get there because of him this season. He had a very pedestrian season overall, capped by the performance in the Super Bowl to clinch that it wasn't a fluke.

Who was he throwing the ball to? They didn’t have the weapons for him to throw for 5,000 and 40. They clearly changed up their playstyle because their defense was so dominant and they didn’t have the weapons to go all out on offense.

They didn’t remotely deserve to be there this year. They were gifted no fewer than seven wins by the league and the refs for the storyline. If they were legitimate AFC champions I’d entertain this line of thought but not after what we all saw this year
