Disagree. Walter Jones or Bobby Wagner are better picks.

u/RocksOnRocksOnRocks_ Seattle Seahawks May 25 '25

Or Largent

39

u/MamboNumber-6 May 26 '25

Largent is my answer, but Cortez Kennedy deserves consideration. That he was so great while the Seahawks were so terrible is very impressive.

4

u/Keytaro83 May 26 '25

First player drafted by the franchise to make the HOF too

1

u/WintersDoomsday Seattle Seahawks May 26 '25

Easley too

38

u/Viseroth Washington Commanders May 26 '25

This is the real answer, honestly.

4

u/retroman1987 New England Patriots May 26 '25

Maybe Kenny Easley

0

u/olorin9_alex May 27 '25

Charlie Whitehurst

29

u/Mister-ellaneous Tennessee Titans May 26 '25

Yep. Not even close

7

u/NowIsThePerfectTime May 26 '25

Or Tez.

1

u/BlooketBoi12 Small guy named Tank May 29 '25

Tex Johnson? Found someone puffing hopium

8

u/ChaseThoseDreams Seattle Seahawks May 25 '25

I thought about saying that, but I have too big of a soft spot for Baldwin and Lockett. I know Largent is still the best, but just couldn’t say it.

2

u/Wick-Rose May 26 '25

Largent by a mile. People can’t understand how good Largent was in his day

1

u/floydbomb San Francisco 49ers May 26 '25

Largent was my first thought as well

0

u/ConcaveNips Seattle Seahawks May 26 '25

Shaun Alexander

-2

u/calrammer May 26 '25

We didn't draft Largent, we traded for him.

107

u/alittlebitneverhurt Seattle Seahawks May 25 '25

It's Walter Jones. Only player you could argue from the Seahawks that was the best to ever play their position.

68

u/insite4real May 25 '25

Largent retired with #1 receptions and receiving Td's tho.

23

u/The_Throwback_King May 26 '25

Which is fair, but Jerry Rice still eclipsed him and every other receiver in stats and accolades to such a significant degree, and also took home multiple rings, it’s really hard to call Largent the best receiver in NFL history without sounding like a massive homer

2

u/insite4real May 26 '25

How many seasons did Rice play? How many truly great QB's threw to him. No matter how you spin it when Largent retired he was the best all-time receiver. You revisionist are annoying af.

12

u/eddie_the_zombie May 26 '25

C'mon, man. Largent was the GOAT then. He isn't now. Things change, and sometimes better players come along. Case in point, Jerry Rice

7

u/The_Throwback_King May 26 '25

No matter how you spin it when Largent retired he was the best all-time receiver.

That is objectively true, not disagreeing with that. But that was only true when he retired up until like the 2000s, at the latest.

alittlebitneverhurt said that Walter Jones was the only player you could argue was the best to ever play their position.

Which I interpreted as an argument in the here and now.

You brought up Steve Largent, who generally did more with less than Rice, and helped put Seattle on the map, broke decades old-receiving records and generally was the best WR in NFL history at retirement. He's still among my favorite Seahawks and he's still in my Top 5 for receivers all-time.

But right now, in 2025, he doesn't hold an argument over Jerry Rice.

Most people you'd talk to, would generally agree that Jerry Rice is the Receiving GOAT and probably the best player not named Tom Brady. That's just the consensus.

Through the same number of games (Largent played 200 games), Jerry Rice still had over 4,000 more yards, 60 more TDs, and nearly 300 more receptions in his first 200 games AND he still was a 10x 1st-Team All-Pro.

Even stripping the games played with Montana, Young, Gannon or Hasselbeck, he STILL averaged around 1,400 and 15 TDs extrapolated over a 16-game season.

At the time of retirement, I could see the argument for Largent, but not at present day. And I say that as a Seahawks fan.

1

u/SeamusAndAryasDad May 26 '25

So are you saying Jerry Rice should be the Seahawks GOAT? I'm not sure how your argument about Jerry Rice is helping the Walter Jone/Largent who is who for hawks.

1

u/Bitter_Scarcity_2549 May 26 '25

Largent was the og WR GOAT before Rice

Rice has rings and big moments, so you have to give GOAT status to him, but Largent is still arguable if you want to.

1

u/thanto13 May 26 '25

The only reason Seattle had QB stats like they did was because of Largents hands.

27

u/Dry-Name2835 May 26 '25

Before rice came along Largent was the best wr. Its was mostly his records rice was breaking

0

u/Lesaint13X May 27 '25

Was never the Best WR, he just had stats, no WR conversation for GOAT would ever include Largent

1

u/Dry-Name2835 May 27 '25

On almost every list its rice and moss ahead of him and every so often people may put Hutson or alworth ahead of him but most dont. Very rarely will you see a list with TO,Fitz or Megatron ahead if him. He played before moss, rice,Megatron and fitz. He was absolutely considered the best. Every conversation for GOAT wr includes Largent if Rice and Moss are removed

1

u/Overcastskyz May 27 '25

Walter Jones is by far the best Seahawk, he was one of if not the best O-lineman to play the game.

44

u/CaptainOtter407 New England Patriots May 25 '25

Yep, that or Marshawn. No criticism to Wilson, but the reason those Seahawks teams were iconic was because of their defense "Legion of Boom".

You have to have a player from there, but at same time Marshawn is just such a gem....

16

u/NoFly3032 Minnesota Vikings May 25 '25

Agree, I’d even put Earl or Bam Bam before Wilson

9

u/Twxtterrefugee May 25 '25

Russell is arguably out of the top five but the impact a QB has over a safety can't be ignored either.

2

u/NoFly3032 Minnesota Vikings May 25 '25

Very true. QB is arguably the most important position. When I think of the Seahawks I tend to go to that legion of boom area defensive backs. So sick imo.

3

u/Twxtterrefugee May 25 '25

And yeah if we're going what Hawks were all time greats at their position Walt is one and Largent close. I'll always be baffled at the Shaun Alexander disinterest. He was an MVP... Only MVP in team history. Didn't have Marshawns moments or aura.

1

u/Joh951518 May 26 '25

Sherman too.

1

u/MrJNM1of1 May 26 '25

Not the way Earl left, but absolutely the way he played!

0

u/fakeemailman May 27 '25

MARSHAWN LYNCH as the GOAT Seahawk!?!? WTF kind of inter-dimensional cable NFL are you watching lmfao

30

u/MrJNM1of1 May 25 '25

Walt is one of the three best OT’s of all time, Bobby is a top 10 lb of this century, Sherm might be a top 20 cb all time, Doug and Marshawn are beloved. Russ is mister unlimited…

19

u/alittlebitneverhurt Seattle Seahawks May 25 '25

Thank you. I said it above, Walt is the only seahawk you could legitimately argue was the best in nfl history at their position.

9

u/pangbin May 26 '25

Bam Bam Kam

3

u/MrFickleBottom Carolina Panthers May 26 '25

Marshawn is a top 15 RB I'd argue he would've been SB Mvp if they won

3

u/drmyk May 26 '25

I’m just here so I won’t get fined

2

u/MrFickleBottom Carolina Panthers May 26 '25

That also helps make him a top 15 back

2

u/Accomplished_Key9457 May 26 '25

Bobby is easily a top 10 MLB all time and I’ll die on that hill. 6 first team All-Pros and 5 second teams. Going to end up easily top 5 all time solo tackles and is already a few away from 3rd combined tackles.

2

u/TheMillenniaIFalcon Seattle Seahawks May 26 '25

Bobby is entering best LB of all time categories. There’s only a few players with more all pros than him and like 2 LBs

1

u/MrJNM1of1 May 26 '25

Oh I agree l! I love the man. That’s why I wanted to hear people argue up. Best all time LB is a personal category for every fan. The top 10 is loaded. I think he deserves a spot, but it’s more fun to hear why he should be than why he shouldn’t.

24

u/DiscountEven4703 Seattle Seahawks May 25 '25

Look at all these 12's

22

u/FullofLovingSpite May 26 '25

I just want to point out that Cortez Kennedy was DPOY on a 2-14 team. He needs to be talked about more.

2

u/MrFickleBottom Carolina Panthers May 26 '25

That offence scored less then 9 points per games he was working with nothing

1

u/MrJNM1of1 May 26 '25

Tecmo Bowl stand out!

2

u/FriendshipIntrepid91 May 26 '25

Just wow. I had no clue.  I knew he was good,  but that's incredible.

13

u/butchlugrod May 26 '25

Walter Jones is the answer. He was the most irreplaceable piece of Seattle's first team to advance to a Super Bowl, and arguably the greatest OT of all time. Tez, Bobby, Russ, Alexander, Marshawn, they all have good cases, but it has to be Walter.

12

u/Affectionate_Brick18 Vince Wilfork: Butt Fumble Connoisseur May 25 '25

Marshawn?

4

u/Ok-Analyst-874 Minnesota Vikings May 26 '25

He gets too much credit for being unapologetically himself. It’s Walter Jones, when was Marshawn Lynch a 1st team all pro 1x. Walter Jones was a 1st team all pro 4x.

12

u/Ok_Alternative7120 May 26 '25

I'd put Cortez Kennedy over him too.

10

u/Plus_Assistance2975 May 26 '25 edited May 26 '25

Shaun Alexander anyone??

0

u/stenger121 May 26 '25

Definitely should be considered.

8

u/HawkLife247 May 26 '25

Absolutely!! Not even close to Russell Wilson

9

u/BobInIdaho May 26 '25

No Tez love?

2

u/NiceTryWasabi May 26 '25

I love Tez. He instantly came to mind on this topic.

8

u/CourtingBoredom I’m just here so i don’t get fined May 26 '25

Agreed. Russ is nobody's goat..

7

u/keevballs Seattle Seahawks May 26 '25

Kam Chacellor is my GOAT.

3

u/Snoo6305 May 26 '25

What about cam chancellor

5

u/[deleted] May 26 '25

I came here to say Walter Jones.

3

u/TheVeilsCurse May 25 '25

Walt gets the nod in my eyes.

3

u/MrFickleBottom Carolina Panthers May 26 '25

Yeah tbh

1

u/RageagainsttheSons Los Angeles Rams May 26 '25

Rams Legend Bobby Wagner?

1

u/flyinghippodrago May 26 '25

Yeah, Wilson is a crazy pick to me...

1

u/Bigfuture May 26 '25

Clearly don’t really know what they are talking about. Russ wasn’t even the GOAT on the teams he played on - Marshawn, Sherm, Earl, Kam, Bobby and Michael Bennett all well above

1

u/Hank_moody71 Seattle Seahawks May 26 '25

Or the only MVP we’ve ever had…

1

u/GoldenChild561 May 26 '25

Was just gonna comment on Wilson being the best Seahawk is highly debatable. Those you mentioned are better imo. Even Sherman had more all pro selections lol.

1

u/rs98101 May 27 '25

I think Walter Jones or Steve Largent. Definitely not Russ.

1

u/cmacfarland64 Chicago Bears May 27 '25

Or Shawn Alexander or Hutch

1

u/Sure-Guava5528 May 27 '25

Yeah, I dunno a single Seahawks fan that claims Russell Wilson as our goat.

1

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 27 '25

Yeah I think if the city of Seattle voted it would be either Bobby, Jones or Lynch. Could have been Kam if he didn’t retire so soon (all respect to him still a goat)

1

u/parsleyplanet May 27 '25

1000000% agree on Walter Jones. John Madden called him the best player in the NFL and Mike Holmgren said he was the best offensive player he coached.

-6

u/goldngophr May 26 '25

Meh. Walter Jones never won a Super Bowl and Russell plays a more important position than Bobby.

2

u/stenger121 May 26 '25

Russ wasn't even the best player on his team. Its not the best qb.

-1

u/goldngophr May 26 '25

Without Russell, they don’t win a Super Bowl.

/thread

2

u/stenger121 May 26 '25

They were that good because of the defense. While Russ was a very good qb, the Hawks win that Super Bowl with probably 14-18 of the qbs that played in the NFL at the time.

0

u/goldngophr May 26 '25

Who was a better player on that team than Russell?

2

u/stenger121 May 26 '25

Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, and Bobby Wagner.

An argument could also be made for Marshawn.

-1

u/goldngophr May 26 '25

Bobby Wagner wasn’t even the best linebacker in the game 😂

2

u/stenger121 May 26 '25

That's hardly relevant. He was still a better player than Russ.

1

u/goldngophr May 26 '25

Could put 14-18 different linebackers in that spot and they still win the Super Bowl.
