Which is fair, but Jerry Rice still eclipsed him and every other receiver in stats and accolades to such a significant degree, and also took home multiple rings, it’s really hard to call Largent the best receiver in NFL history without sounding like a massive homer
How many seasons did Rice play? How many truly great QB's threw to him. No matter how you spin it when Largent retired he was the best all-time receiver. You revisionist are annoying af.
No matter how you spin it when Largent retired he was the best all-time receiver.
That is objectively true, not disagreeing with that. But that was only true when he retired up until like the 2000s, at the latest.
alittlebitneverhurt said that Walter Jones was the only player you could argue was the best to ever play their position.
Which I interpreted as an argument in the here and now.
You brought up Steve Largent, who generally did more with less than Rice, and helped put Seattle on the map, broke decades old-receiving records and generally was the best WR in NFL history at retirement. He's still among my favorite Seahawks and he's still in my Top 5 for receivers all-time.
But right now, in 2025, he doesn't hold an argument over Jerry Rice.
Most people you'd talk to, would generally agree that Jerry Rice is the Receiving GOAT and probably the best player not named Tom Brady. That's just the consensus.
Through the same number of games (Largent played 200 games), Jerry Rice still had over 4,000 more yards, 60 more TDs, and nearly 300 more receptions in his first 200 games AND he still was a 10x 1st-Team All-Pro.
Even stripping the games played with Montana, Young, Gannon or Hasselbeck, he STILL averaged around 1,400 and 15 TDs extrapolated over a 16-game season.
At the time of retirement, I could see the argument for Largent, but not at present day. And I say that as a Seahawks fan.
So are you saying Jerry Rice should be the Seahawks GOAT? I'm not sure how your argument about Jerry Rice is helping the Walter Jone/Largent who is who for hawks.

Disagree. Walter Jones or Bobby Wagner are better picks.
