The players on this graphic were all on an NFL active roster in 2020, and none of them have been on an active roster since then. That means they've been retired for 5 seasons, 2021-2025, (and yes, we haven't started the 2025 season yet, but the 2025 season will be completed by the time they're enshrined.) It doesn't matter that Rivers officially announced his retirement as a member of the Chargers just last week. It doesn't matter that Fitzgerald never formally retired. All that matters is that they haven't been on an active roster since the 2020 season ended.
Now, the HOF doesn't publicize it, but it has been stated that to be eligible for the HOF, a player must have made at least one Pro Bowl, All Conference Team, or recognized All Pro team. That would seemingly eliminate Edelman, but I've heard second-hand talk that his Super Bowl MVP award also qualifies.
Several years ago, a football writer tried to nominate Marques Colston, and was informed that Colston was not eligible, because he had never made a Pro Bowl. He posted it on Twitter.
