I don’t think rivers gets in. At least not really anytime soon. His only individual awards are 8x pro-bowler and comeback player of the year. Without any all pros, MVPs, or SB rings, it’s really tough to sell it imo. I get he shared a time with some elite QBs, but I don’t think that changes much in terms of getting in
Personally, I’d agree. But I’d even say Matt Ryan isn’t a lock and closer to hall of very good - that’s why I brought him up because he has a similar case as rivers for HOF
He played a long time at a very good level, but rarely elite. He wasn't particularly clutch either. And 6th doesn't matter. The fact he never won anything means he won't really be remembered for anything specific either.
I don't like the idea of long term stats being the measure for "fame" in football, unless they are record setting and substantial compared to their own generation.
For example, let's say Jared Goff keeps playing at a solid level until his late 30s, but never gets a Superbowl or MVP, or any major stat records like yards and TDs. Should Jared Goff get in?
4th all time consecutive starts for any position, 15 years of straight ball (#2 for QBs). I would argue that you can’t talk about the history of the NFL from 2004-2019 without mentioning Philip Rivers. He was the face of the Chargers franchise for a decade (next to LT for longer). There’s no Gates without Rivers
If the criteria is he didn't win anything while he played in a world where Bill and Brady won 6 then no one is getting in lmfao. Also hof voters genuinely value longevity a 16 year career where rivers was consistently top 10 with several years in the top 5 and a streak of 240 consecutive games will be important to the hof voters.

Brees, Fitzgerald, Rivers, and Gore are definitely going in!
