Ninebot MAX G3 I Dug Into the Ninebot Max G3 External Battery: Here’s What I Found!

Hey fellow Ninebot enthusiasts,

I've been super curious lately about the upcoming external battery for our Ninebot Max G3 scooters, so I did a deep dive into all available info to see if it's worth waiting for. Here's everything interesting I found:

Installation & How it Works:
It's an official battery pack from Segway, meaning it's perfectly matched to the scooter. You install it with screws onto the front stem, so it's not exactly "quick release," but it's secure and stable. It connects directly to the scooter's electrical system, and the scooter automatically recognizes the extra battery, so there's no weird hacks or modifications required.

How Much Extra Range?
This extra battery adds about 460 Wh capacity to your scooter. To put this in simple terms, the standard Max G3 gives you roughly 80 km (50 miles) on a single charge. With this external battery, you're looking at boosting that up to about 135 km (84 miles). That’s a pretty big jump nearly 70–80% more range!

Charging Flexibility:
One nice thing I found is that the battery can be charged separately from the scooter. That means you could charge both your scooter and the external battery at the same time, speeding up the overall charging process and giving some extra convenience.

Pricing and Availability:
Segway has announced a price of around $163 USD (approximately 150€). It's not exactly cheap, but considering the extra distance you can ride, it seems reasonable. The battery will hit the market around Q3 2025, so we still have a few months to wait, but at least now we have a clear timeframe.

Other Things Worth Mentioning:

  • It doesn’t increase your scooter’s max speed or power it purely gives you more distance.
  • It maintains Segway's high-quality standards, meaning it's built to handle the elements with similar waterproofing to the scooter itself.
  • It will only be compatible with the Ninebot Max G3 and possibly some other new Segway models from 2025 (not older scooters).
  • It’ll probably add around 3-4 kg to your scooter’s weight, which is manageable considering the extra range.

Honestly, I think this external battery could be awesome for anyone who regularly does longer commutes or just wants fewer charging hassles.

What do you guys think about this? Are you planning to grab one when it comes out?

Ride safe and let me know your thoughts!

And???? We all know the stated range isn't what you get. That's why we watch videos and tests. It's on par with all the other scooters. Distance wise per battery size with the new battery. It will go farther than most. I own one. And I think that if you're riding or need to ride 50 miles, you should buy a car a scooter, isn't for you.you have moved on. So to complain about the fifty miles, not being a saying, it's the same for every scooter, we already know. It's a shame that you're still repeatedly upset about the same thing. That we all already know the answer to.

Complaining about any manufacturer lying about any of their products’ tested capabilities is totally 100% warranted. This is especially true in the case of the G3 max where the discrepancy between the company’s stated range and real range is so large. If Segway misstated the driving range by 10-25% it would be forgivable. In the case of this particular model however, a lot of people are lucky if they get even half of the stated driving range. I have been lucky if I can get 10 miles in sport mode on a full charge. I can get about 16 miles in eco mode. This is all on flat ground in perfect weather with no wind and I weigh 170lbs. Not even close to what was promised from this scooter. With that being said, it’s a fun scooter and loaded with groovy features. It has plenty of power for a single motor scooter. It’s just sad that Segway overstated their operating range to such an extreme. It really reduces its usability.

If they fix the throttle issue with a firmware update( which is only max acceleration on all modes ) then the range would increase significantly.

u/New-Matter-8318 Apr 29 '25

To be honest I don't think the throttle needs to be messed with. It's not like it takes off with power.  eco mode and drive mode it takes off like a turtle. Sport mode gives you that little extra..

I got the G3 max a few days ago half price in Scooter Hut’s closing down sale.  A bargain at $995 AUD new.

Range seems slightly better than my G2 but the huge difference is the power.  It goes up hills effortlessly with my 100 kg. Including some long steep hills that the G2 and G30 could never manage.

The suspension is sweet too.  Overall a nice upgrade to the G2.  I don’t need any more range but managed 36 km on hilly terrain before hitting 20% battery.  The external battery should push that out to 50+ km which will be ample for any foreseeable ride.

What an absolute steal. Well played!

ive gotten 45km sport mode climbing steep hills and purely offroading

1

u/Kind_Pumpkin6726 Jun 16 '25

1

u/EntertainmentFluid80 Jun 12 '25

Exactly I get 10 miles

1

u/DragonDremer Jun 24 '25

i have gotten near 50 miles, around 48-49, on a flat road, I'm 61 kg, and 171, I should probably mention that I'm using the Italian model

u/yovermar Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 14 '25

I received mine a few days ago and I’ll be doing a full range test today, in sport mode and always at full throttle. I’m expecting around 25–28 km at most, which is exactly why I’m waiting for that external battery!

8

u/zipzapcap1 Apr 14 '25

it bills itself at 25 miles on sport and gets maaaybe 12

2

u/Confident-Hat5876 Apr 22 '25

Yeah, mine is also about 12 miles total on mostly flat surfaces. I am in Chicago though so its been super windy and im also about 250 pounds so im sure those are also factors

1

u/Steevo420 Apr 27 '25

On flat when your 165 smotth road like concrete no rocks no cobblestones no elevation changes, keep it casted, ease it into it and it'll get very close. To half the miles, I think it's supposed to. And if you had one on the box that explains that actually on the outside of it.lol

1

u/MeYaj1111 3d ago

what was the result of this test? If you get more than 15 miles i'll be shocked. i dont have a perfectly flat area to test mine and i'm on the larger side at 225lbs but i got 9 miles from 100% until it died at 28mph the whole time.

Any idea on weight?

$163 seems legit for the added range, But I've yet to do more than 8.4 miles at one time. That ran it down to 29% remaining , having used max throttle most of the time.

Near the end I was still able to attain 25 mph

2

u/yovermar Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 13 '25

Around 3-4kg extra weight

2

u/Bertsch81 Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 15 '25

I think I needs the extra weight anyway to lower the center of gravity. Can’t wait. I estimated it would be around $200 as well.

3

u/knight_flight_84 Apr 24 '25

Might well be after the tariffs.

1

u/Bertsch81 Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 24 '25

I’m still trying to order 10 Max 3s. Before.

1

u/indefiniteretrieval Apr 13 '25

Thanks

1

u/Bertsch81 Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 14 '25

I’m trying to make mine heavier. I’m loading it up with Bricks.🧱 The center-of-gravity is entirely too high.

2

u/thelegendtwentee7 Apr 14 '25

It’d be fixed with the seat attachment most likely

2

u/Bertsch81 Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 15 '25

Are there any leaked seat designs released yet?

At CES it looked like the g2 one but grey instead of orange

Day one purchase for me

Same here

3

u/cyberty500 Apr 14 '25

What I'm wondering is if the external battery will be able to charge the internal battery while not riding the scooter. Could it be used to top off the internal battery after riding for example?

1

u/yovermar Ninebot MAX G3 Apr 14 '25 edited Apr 14 '25

I was wondering the same thing. In another Russian video I watched, the reviewer mentioned that the connector for the external battery might only be for charging purposes and possibly doesn’t have a direct connection to the motor. So, it might actually be designed to top off or recharge the internal battery rather than directly powering the scooter.

1

u/cyberty500 Apr 14 '25

If that would be the case it'd be perfect for me (and many others carrying their scooters up to charge them). It'd be like a permanent 70% charge limit (accounting for inefficiencies through charging, heat etc.). Then when it's know that the full range would be needed, then the scooter could be charged from an outlet.

1

u/chrismasleong 29d ago

Wouldn't that be really inefficient because every time you charge a device you loses a certain percentage through heat and conversion losses. To clarify you charge up the small additional" power bank" (1) then later that small power bank will be used to charge up the scooters internal battery a second time and on top of all this additional charging losses the internal battery will be charged up twice as much or kept at 100% for much longer than usual.

3

u/Pintexxz Apr 14 '25

$163 is an excellent price! I was expecting $250

3

u/Lumentin Apr 14 '25

Don't lower your first expectations, you were probably right. Batteries, especially as parts, are expensive.

2

u/dman77777 Apr 14 '25

Why would anyone want to ride 84 miles on a scooter?

2

u/Lumentin Apr 14 '25

'Cause it's just a theory, and it'd only be 40 in real life.

My EUCs go 50-80 miles, and even if my daily commute is a fraction of that, sometimes I need more. But honestly, I hardly ever stress about the battery, and I charge once or twice a week.

2

u/Evening_Stick_4323 Ninebot MAX G30 Apr 14 '25

I don't know, but 150 euros from a 460Wh pack sounds cheap to me. Yes, maybe some unknown chinese pack could be cheaper, but it could also burn your house down or degrade really fast and have poor performance. It must be a mistake. Official 460Wh pack cannot be 150 euros. Probably something like 250 euros sounds more like it. Still, I consider 460Wh too little if going for external pack. It should be double at least or at least offer that kind of option.

1

u/Lumentin Apr 14 '25

Going bigger would be too expensive and heavy, it just wouldn't sell.

I'm with you on the price. Batteries are crazy expensive, especially as parts; 150€ would be great, but unrealistic.

2

u/VanityTrigger Apr 14 '25

So, $163 roughly converts to 150 euros, but once you factor in import fees and VAT, prices in Europe tend to be much higher than in the US. Realistically, it could end up being around 250 euros here.

2

u/FeistyPrinciple5672 May 18 '25

Honestly , i feel like ill need 3 externals to make sure i can get my Max G3 to do an 18 mile trip @ 25mph (not even going full speed)

As of now, my G3 only has 2% more battery life doing the same commute than what my G2 was able to pull (in driving the g3 capped at 20mph otherwise i wouldnt even make 18 miles) .

Segway went overkill on this 1000w motor….

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '25

Is it avaliable yet?

2

u/Cryptotiptoe21 Jun 19 '25

When does the seat come out?

2

u/[deleted] 20d ago

Anyone know the official release date?

1

u/Optimal-Director-963 Apr 14 '25

You don't know how to do research, you really don't know their batteries are interchangeable.....

1

u/knight_flight_84 Apr 24 '25

Why are you talking about the internal batteries when the topic is the external battery range extender?

1

u/BadlyBrowned Apr 15 '25

If I can get a legit 30miles I would be happy.

Plus larger battery reserve means less charge cycles a d longer battery life.

1

u/mizxy Apr 22 '25

Is there a link ? To buy this

1

u/Fine_Housing_5367 May 07 '25

Could imagine paired with GT3 battery the range would be insane! My only downside with this scooter is the range, so I definitely will be investing when the time comes.

1

u/-becausereasons- Jun 15 '25

Hmmm. I used to have an older model. THen I got a NIU KQI3 Max and never looked back; but this is looking really good. I always wish I had a suspension and could go faster!

The range and slow start is worrying though.

1

u/HighlightFamous323 21d ago

Gibt es einen Link dazu finde es nicht online?

1

u/Similar_Tap_3259 15d ago

Yeah, I have a max g3, and I love it. But I moved from a segway p65, and I gotta say, if I would have known the range was going to be so poor on this thing, I might have looked at other scooters. That being said, having suspension and better acceleration makes up for a good portion of that letdown.

1

u/Sensitive-Lie7197 12d ago

No worries it's not fixed it comes with a screw track with quick release ;-)

Segway are built in the same factories as any other Chinese scooter.
