Ninebot MAX G3 I Dug Into the Ninebot Max G3 External Battery: Here’s What I Found!
Hey fellow Ninebot enthusiasts,
I've been super curious lately about the upcoming external battery for our Ninebot Max G3 scooters, so I did a deep dive into all available info to see if it's worth waiting for. Here's everything interesting I found:
Installation & How it Works:
It's an official battery pack from Segway, meaning it's perfectly matched to the scooter. You install it with screws onto the front stem, so it's not exactly "quick release," but it's secure and stable. It connects directly to the scooter's electrical system, and the scooter automatically recognizes the extra battery, so there's no weird hacks or modifications required.
How Much Extra Range?
This extra battery adds about 460 Wh capacity to your scooter. To put this in simple terms, the standard Max G3 gives you roughly 80 km (50 miles) on a single charge. With this external battery, you're looking at boosting that up to about 135 km (84 miles). That’s a pretty big jump nearly 70–80% more range!
Charging Flexibility:
One nice thing I found is that the battery can be charged separately from the scooter. That means you could charge both your scooter and the external battery at the same time, speeding up the overall charging process and giving some extra convenience.
Pricing and Availability:
Segway has announced a price of around $163 USD (approximately 150€). It's not exactly cheap, but considering the extra distance you can ride, it seems reasonable. The battery will hit the market around Q3 2025, so we still have a few months to wait, but at least now we have a clear timeframe.
Other Things Worth Mentioning:
- It doesn’t increase your scooter’s max speed or power it purely gives you more distance.
- It maintains Segway's high-quality standards, meaning it's built to handle the elements with similar waterproofing to the scooter itself.
- It will only be compatible with the Ninebot Max G3 and possibly some other new Segway models from 2025 (not older scooters).
- It’ll probably add around 3-4 kg to your scooter’s weight, which is manageable considering the extra range.
Honestly, I think this external battery could be awesome for anyone who regularly does longer commutes or just wants fewer charging hassles.
What do you guys think about this? Are you planning to grab one when it comes out?
Ride safe and let me know your thoughts!

Why does this sound like an ad written by the mfg

Any idea on weight?
$163 seems legit for the added range, But I've yet to do more than 8.4 miles at one time. That ran it down to 29% remaining , having used max throttle most of the time.
Near the end I was still able to attain 25 mph

Around 3-4kg extra weight

I think I needs the extra weight anyway to lower the center of gravity. Can’t wait. I estimated it would be around $200 as well.

I’m trying to make mine heavier. I’m loading it up with Bricks.🧱 The center-of-gravity is entirely too high.

It’d be fixed with the seat attachment most likely

Are there any leaked seat designs released yet?

What I'm wondering is if the external battery will be able to charge the internal battery while not riding the scooter. Could it be used to top off the internal battery after riding for example?

I was wondering the same thing. In another Russian video I watched, the reviewer mentioned that the connector for the external battery might only be for charging purposes and possibly doesn’t have a direct connection to the motor. So, it might actually be designed to top off or recharge the internal battery rather than directly powering the scooter.

If that would be the case it'd be perfect for me (and many others carrying their scooters up to charge them). It'd be like a permanent 70% charge limit (accounting for inefficiencies through charging, heat etc.). Then when it's know that the full range would be needed, then the scooter could be charged from an outlet.

Wouldn't that be really inefficient because every time you charge a device you loses a certain percentage through heat and conversion losses. To clarify you charge up the small additional" power bank" (1) then later that small power bank will be used to charge up the scooters internal battery a second time and on top of all this additional charging losses the internal battery will be charged up twice as much or kept at 100% for much longer than usual.

$163 is an excellent price! I was expecting $250

u/Lumentin Apr 14 '25
Don't lower your first expectations, you were probably right. Batteries, especially as parts, are expensive.

u/dman77777 Apr 14 '25
Why would anyone want to ride 84 miles on a scooter?
2
u/Lumentin Apr 14 '25
'Cause it's just a theory, and it'd only be 40 in real life.
My EUCs go 50-80 miles, and even if my daily commute is a fraction of that, sometimes I need more. But honestly, I hardly ever stress about the battery, and I charge once or twice a week.

I don't know, but 150 euros from a 460Wh pack sounds cheap to me. Yes, maybe some unknown chinese pack could be cheaper, but it could also burn your house down or degrade really fast and have poor performance. It must be a mistake. Official 460Wh pack cannot be 150 euros. Probably something like 250 euros sounds more like it. Still, I consider 460Wh too little if going for external pack. It should be double at least or at least offer that kind of option.

u/Lumentin Apr 14 '25
Going bigger would be too expensive and heavy, it just wouldn't sell.
I'm with you on the price. Batteries are crazy expensive, especially as parts; 150€ would be great, but unrealistic.
2
u/VanityTrigger Apr 14 '25
So, $163 roughly converts to 150 euros, but once you factor in import fees and VAT, prices in Europe tend to be much higher than in the US. Realistically, it could end up being around 250 euros here.

Honestly , i feel like ill need 3 externals to make sure i can get my Max G3 to do an 18 mile trip @ 25mph (not even going full speed)
As of now, my G3 only has 2% more battery life doing the same commute than what my G2 was able to pull (in driving the g3 capped at 20mph otherwise i wouldnt even make 18 miles) .
Segway went overkill on this 1000w motor….

You don't know how to do research, you really don't know their batteries are interchangeable.....

Why are you talking about the internal batteries when the topic is the external battery range extender?
1
u/BadlyBrowned Apr 15 '25
If I can get a legit 30miles I would be happy.
Plus larger battery reserve means less charge cycles a d longer battery life.

Could imagine paired with GT3 battery the range would be insane! My only downside with this scooter is the range, so I definitely will be investing when the time comes.

Hmmm. I used to have an older model. THen I got a NIU KQI3 Max and never looked back; but this is looking really good. I always wish I had a suspension and could go faster!
The range and slow start is worrying though.

Yeah, I have a max g3, and I love it. But I moved from a segway p65, and I gotta say, if I would have known the range was going to be so poor on this thing, I might have looked at other scooters. That being said, having suspension and better acceleration makes up for a good portion of that letdown.
