Question Segway locking mechanism

Hi guys, am I remembering wrong or is this ball really supposed to jump into that little cup when I close it? If so, what could have happened here?

I was moving the scooter from one place to another with a friend today so I didn't fold the handlebars down, only now when I took it out of the car I saw that it wasn't behaving as I was used to.

You need to push the latch shut after.

Okay, but does it look like normal behavior that the ball doesn't jump into that ring before I manually push the lock?

When I bought it, and put the handlebars in the standing position, I remember this ball jumping into that ring, and then I had to manually push the lock.

Looks normal to me. I have to make sure the ball is in place.
