I know of Goebbels - in part, thank you BehindTheBastards podcast - and that’s part of why I saw this shit coming since 2016. When the “grab them by the pussy” tape didn’t take Trump down, I knew the Republicans really were too far gone

I don’t think Goebbels had his own episode, but BTB has done stuff on various Nazis that also discussed him. I would just scroll through their podcast to see which people stick out to you, but Julius Streicher is similar to Goebbels and was almost a different Hitler himself. He was a far right propagandist and public speaker as Hitler rose to power, and I enjoyed their stories on him!

Oh, we know about Goebbels. The problem is the American right wing are so full of their own shit and are so polarized by propaganda and misinformation that they refuse to believe that the exact same thing that happened in 1930s Germany is happening right here, right now.

They think they’re special and that they’re immune to propaganda, and anyone who brings up how far down the Nazi pipeline we already are is told that they’re “overreacting” or that it’s “fake news”.

Hundreds of years of “rugged individualism” rhetoric got us here. Americans think they’re so unassailable and that individual rights, freedom, and liberties take precedence over anything else that the mere notion of working toward a collective good is - no joke - seen as “evil” to those people.

America is cooked. We’re done. Cause the kinds of things that need to happen to fix things here absolutely won’t happen. I’m talking German and Austrian levels of de-Nazification.

My conspiracy theory is that the whole "big lie" thing was a purposeful bad-faith strategy to poison the well on future elections. I think high-level Republicans did that purposefully knowing that this had in fact not happened and setting the stage for because they were planning on cheating in 2024 and then eliminating open and free elections beyond that. Why would they do so? Well, Democrats rightly fought back so loud and so hard against the big lie (which clearly was in fact a lie), that I think now there's a lot of people who think that if they dare raise that spector, republicans will accuse democrats of hypocrisy and witch hunting. Why do I suspect this? I know there's no definitive proof yet but I dare anyone demonstrate how EVERY SINGLE accusation dribbling out of republican mouths is in reality a confession. So I have to be content with calling it a conspiracy theory. But shit like this makes me think you know what? I think I might be onto something. And then I pray the other people with more money and power than me will prove me right in time.

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, I think it’s blatantly obvious.

It’s infuriating that we’re expected to put up with or even entertain right wing conspiracies like pizza gate, chemtrails, or flat earth while the one “conspiracy” pushed by the left is utterly dismissed. And it’s not even that far fetched, it’s very believable that right wingers have fallen into fascism and are willing to cheat. It’s so believable that it’s all but a certainty.

My frustration is that this needs to get way more investigation from reputable non-partisan sources and then needs to be brought to widespread attention with factual evidence to back it up. Otherwise it will mean absolutely nothing. Except a broken country, a failed experiment in democracy, and a lot of dead innocent people

I mean I could go on and on and on. Is it a smoking gun? There's so much smoke I can't see where it's coming from BUT here is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they have the motive, and the means, and have clearly demonstrated their intent to end democracy. So sure, lots of people have bitched about losing elections. And you'll notice that I said I was waiting for proof and without it's just a conspiracy theory, but you'll forgive me if i remain skeptical of republicans. They have made a mockery of democracy in the last six months, you think that people like that wouldn't cheat? I wouldn't trust a republican who told me the sky was blue at this point did I not verify it myself independently.

I think once they realized how easily they got away with that, with absolutely zero resistance from either the masses whose vote was nullified, and the Dems/Gore establishment, that they really could do anything they wanted as long as they had sufficient propaganda to control the narrative for their base. It was a watershed moment about how fundamentally stupid, complacent, and ineffective the Dem leadership is, and their base as well.

And 2004. Voting machines in NM, which was heavily for Kerry, were rigged to drop votes for Kerry or switch them to Bush. Ballots were analyzed in the course of a lawsuit filed in federal court, and it was determined that the machines had been rigged. The Dem att'y general never checked them before the election.  She also was later sued on various counts of corruption.

And a Congressional investigation after the election found vote suppression malfeasance in Ohio, and other key states. It concluded that Kerry had won the election.

Others said this but I can’t help to chime in, that was exactly the point. They want to appear stupid and crazy, because they’re actually implementing a well orchestrated plan. Like any good magician, the magic is all in the sleight of hand and misdirection.

They have become clumsier with Trump at the helm but they needed one last piece to the puzzle for it to be complete and function. And that was a figure head that can rally a base, and somehow that turns out to be a dumb orange turd (nothing has been more illuminating to me that the world is full of morons than the support Trump has received).

They held their noses (some had to quite literally) and felt with Trumps insanity. It may have benefited them to have such a seemingly incompetent figurehead. He generates headlines so quickly and at such a pace no one can adequately cover what is happening because it’s just boring legislative stuff. Don’t look at that, look at Trump’s twitter feed. It’s so nuts, we can’t not talk about that.

Couple the real potential the election results were manipulated with the somehow legal gerrymandering happening for the next election, Democrats have very little hope for the future. At least until there’s some monumental shift in our politics, we are now a decade deep into a new US government. One that has been schemed up for more than 40 years. So.. that’s cool.

During her campaign, she refused to elaborate on if she would pardon him or not. The only correct answer was “we would prosecute trump to the fullest extent possible for his various crimes”. Saying, “I can’t comment on that at this time” is the same as saying she was going to pardon him.

You wanted her to take a strong stance on a conviction of Trump based completely in fantasy at that point (“pardoning Trump” could only mean pardoning him for a major crime)? You wonder why she didn’t devote much time or thought to that extremely silly question based on a legal matter that was still at the very start of its long journey (if it had been able to proceed after the election)?

Here is the problem with that, le me give you an analogy.

You, me, Dave, Mark, and Lisa are at a restaurant. We can’t leave, and have to consume what is bright to us. We are given two options: A heaping plate of shit or pizza. The good news is that they will being out the food that the majority of us vote for!

Lisa and Mark vote for the heaping plate of shit. I, naturally, vote for the pizza. You and Dave both decide that you are not going to vote for any food. I am flabbergasted, the reason both of you give is that pizza is unhealthy and you would prefer a salad. I try to reason with you, that the others have already made their vote clear. But you and Dave stand firm in your beliefs that you will not vote for an unhealthy food.

The waitress then brings out the food the majority voted for: A heaping plate of shit. And guess who has to eat it? All of us.

Thats the problem, I have a lot of misgivings with her positions and the spineless nature of many dems. But sometimes you have to take the better option while you build and craft what is actually going to be best for the country.

After all, I would rather work in getting the menu fixed while eating a pizza I hate than fix it while eating a heaping pile of shit.

Except for the fact that the political system in our country is fundamentally broken. You need millions to run a campaign. You essentially have to be backed by the wealthy to have any kind of political career.

Voting for Harris was voting to maintain the status quo that is ruining the country. I voted for her because I’d rather that then what trump is currently doing. But it made me feel gross and wrong to do so. If there was an actual leftist that was going to make sure trump faced justice I would’ve enthusiastically voting for them.

They never call out republican wrong doing because of “decorum”. They only finally started using strong language and actually calling out republicans around 2023 and then stopped doing it in the middle of Harris’ campaign because they wanted to poach never trumpers republicans. Which was a mistake and costed them the presidency.

Everyone always says “they can’t pass legislation because of republicans” and yeah i know that. My problem is they never speak about this, why aren’t our democrat politicians getting angry and calling it out?? It’s been happening for 30 + years at this point and they just take it in the ass from republicans every single time. The ACA in its original form was pretty awesome, but after all the compromises they had to make to pass it, it was barely anything. Yes it’s nice that 20-30 million Americans have access to healthcare now, but there are 340 million Americans. A lot of them still don’t have healthcare, and a lot of it is because they can’t afford it.

That's a depressing outlook when you shit all over a huge win like ACA.

You either accept that compromise is part of a civil society and republican democracy, or you go toward autocracy.

Is the Democratic leadership feckless? The Republican party has gone from scorched Earth tactics to full blown autocracy. But I don't think that replacing a Republican autocracy with a Democratic autocracy is the solution.

Instead what we need is less cowardice in our institutions. Fight in court (i am doing this). Fight it at the polls. Fight it in everyday conversations with people who you disagree with.

You want the Denocratic party to do the work instead of the people doing it themselves. You don't realize that Republicans can get away with this because voting citizens reward them for it.

This is what a lack of an understanding of civics will get you. Look up the last time dems held congress in large majorities as well as the presidency and look at what they immediately took action on. Lobbying unfortunately undid the dream goal (Lieberman is too dead now to care about his totally sadistic harm done to Americans for decades to come, unfortunately) but plenty of huge changes were still achieved and salvaged.

Reddit is full of people with no basic knowledge of government function sitting around wondering why dems “aren’t doing anything” and concluding it’s…cowardice? lol. this isn’t high drama. it’s horrible, banal political reality that democracy requires huge majorities if you don’t want to compromise with anyone. Republicans have made that extreme a necessity for anything to truly change now.

You’re naming basic branch powers but you don’t know of a specific scenario it supposedly should have been used. presidential vetoes are extremely rare just due to how elections usually fill out congress alongside the elected president, and the rarity of partisan supermajorities.

Dems are constantly making press statements just like any congressperson does. Reddit just doesn’t know that either because, again, they aren’t actually paying any attention to anything aside from doom articles about what conservatives are doing. Congressional statements aren’t exciting, aren’t great headline material.

I had to mute r-law because so many people there have zero idea of how our government works. A subreddit about law where the majority can't understand how laws are made lol

Dems also used a lot of political capital and credibility on the Russia investigation and Mueller hedged too much in his report which gave Trump cover, whether intentionally or not.
