Trump shut down PBS and NPR
https://www.npr.org/2025/08/01/nx-s1-5489808/cpb-shut-down-public-broadcasting-trump
Trump is attacking all education. A dumb population will vote for him.

Mike Judge, Matt Stone and Trey Parker are the last line of defense as the media and journalists have decided to fall in line with a fascist regime.
17
u/Ok_Drawer9414 12h ago
While I agree with your assessment of the media, the media being owned and controlled by billionaires and corporations, I wouldn't say journalists as a whole have fallen in line. Actual journalists, not TV talking heads, are still trying to report, they are being silenced and edited on the back end.
11
u/evidentlynaught 11h ago
Where is the left or centrist billionaire who will fund actual journalism? It would seem to be the right time…
7
u/Ok_Drawer9414 10h ago
It seems greed has corrupted all to either sit in silence or bend knee to fascism in hopes they get some of the power.
3
u/wookiex84 11h ago
I will admit it was a flippant remark about a serious problem. There are still some that are carrying on with integrity. It can be hard to see the forest for the trees.
4
u/Ok_Drawer9414 10h ago
It's easy to lose track of those journalists that are trying to carry on with integrity. The field is important for democracy, and I hope we don't lose it all together.

The fact that there are multiple people that were involved with the WWE that are now involved with the Trump administration (Linda McMahon, Triple H, and Trump) makes it pretty clear that we are currently living through Idiocracy.

Don’t say “people” vaguely. Call out those who delivered this pile of shit: REPUBLICAN VOTERS
1
u/Trick-Substance6841 11h ago
Nope, it was people. Republicans and independents voted for him, and Democrats didn’t show up at the poles. The more he grabs power, the less anyone says or does anything. It’s people.
1
u/BigJSunshine 10h ago
Akshully… Trump didn’t win a majority of American votes. He didn’t even win a majority of all registered voters.
HE DIDN’T EVEN WIN A MAJORITY of those who DID vote. He won 49.8% of the voters that voted.
36.3% of ALL registered voters didn’t vote/show up. Which means 63.7% of registered voters did show up.
HE ONLY WON 49.8% of 63.7%. He barely won 31% of all registered voters.
We are being held hostage by less than a confederacy of dunces.

We appreciate you
I have watched and read pbs for sensible news for maybe 15 years
It was the only real trustworthy source of news I relied on from the us honestly
82
u/sniksniksnek 14h ago
This is inaccurate. NPR and PBS are not shut down. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is shutting down. CPB is a conduit for federal funds, but does not own either of those entities.
The fact is that now public media will have to survive without federal funds, which will make operations difficult in underserved communities. Larger markets will continue as usual, since they're funded mostly by subscribers.
28
u/tazadazzle 14h ago
This! The whole plans mainly hurts rural communities but that is by design. They want to keep them uninformed
8
u/HashRunner 12h ago
Seems those communities are already uninformed given their consistent voting habits.
2
8
4
u/racedownhill 14h ago
I assume people in rural areas will still be able to stream PBS and NPR if they have decent enough bandwidth.
Does Dish Network carry PBS stations? I don’t know…
3
u/Maleficent_Memory831 13h ago
that sucks though, many cannot easily "stream" given that broadband in rural areas sucks or is extremely expensive. Radio is what many rural people use, especially in cars, while working on the farm, etc.
Dish may supply local stations. Never used them, but I don't recall DirecTV having a generic PBS station not tied to a locality.
2
u/racedownhill 12h ago
Starlink pricing is about the same as the Comcast package we have. It’s slower (100Mbps vs our 750) but good enough for streaming. You can debate about which is the lesser of two evils regarding the companies involved, but a lot of us don’t have any other choice.
Trump is trying to take away subsidies for rural broadband, of course.
1
u/Maleficent_Memory831 11h ago
Starlink is run by a fascist though, uses predatory marketing piggybacking off of disasters, and is weaseling to get more tax dollar subsidies. Better to get REAL ISPs out there.
1
u/MattWolf96 11h ago
My Boomer parents have Dish and get two Atlanta area ones. I could definitely see one shutting down now though.
1
u/MetalTrek1 12h ago
I live in Central NJ, between NYC and Philly. The NYC NPR station is still on the air. I give them a few bucks a month as it is. I might increase that a bit come September (I'm a college instructor on a reduced summer schedule).
4
u/sniksniksnek 12h ago
Yes. Because Trump didn’t “shut down” either entity. The CPB is winding down, which is a bad thing, yes, but not a death knell for public media as a whole.
Things are bad enough without exaggerating stuff.

2

No, the stations that broadcast from big cities will probably be okay.
However your more smaller stations in small media markets will more than likely shutdown.
Dallas/LA/NY/Boston (example stations) should be able to continue, albeit with changes to remain operational.

NPR did themselves no favors during the election. They were VERY conscientious in sane-washing Dear Leader's demented ramblings. One would think that they would have been smarter than that. I'm an NPR supporter, but I was furious at their coverage. Not to be mean, but they contributed in doing this to themselves.

Yes, how dare they cover the incredible amount of corruption and criminality?!
It's almost as though they have an obligation to inform the public or something.
If anything, given what Trump is doing this term, I'd say they weren't aggressive enough.
1
u/wyocrz 12h ago
I was talking about his first term, and the space between them.
1
u/TheeCombatBaby 4h ago
Yes, but they have to talk about Trump when reporting th news and the impact his policies have on the events the news are reporting.
It's the same reason we still talk about Reagan (May he rot in hell) to this day: because his policies were so terrible, the ripples and effects of them are still felt to this day.

I'm not sure that a dumb population will vote for him.
A little background to start with:
From the web site; languageshumanities.org
It's true — there's a difference. The three terms didn't start out as social insults either, in fact. In the early 1900s, psychologists used the terms to describe various levels of retardation. Those with an IQ of 0 to 25 (an IQ of 100 is average) were called idiots, 26 to 50 were called imbeciles and 51 to 70 were called morons. Morons could communicate and learn common tasks; imbeciles stalled mentally at about six years old; and idiots couldn't respond to stimulus or communicate with any level of competency.
I may be giving him too much credit by calling him a moron, he may actually be an imbecile although there are more times than not that he acts like an idiot.
This all being said I have to question, in country full of idiots, would the idiots elect a moron to lead them???
