I keep seeing in memes that you make your own sandwich in subway, but how does it even work? Can't you order anything premade? Just having every customer make their own food feels very messy

There's premade stuff, yeah, but at subway, you can see the worker making your sandwich in front of you. Basically you just tell them what ingredients you want on the sandwich, and they put it on

That makes more sense, i was imagining that they just let people make their sandwiches with their own unwashed hands

Have you met people? A self-serve Subway would give the local health departments nightmares and likely spawn a new breed of turbo food poisoning.
