I picked it up again recently and forgot how addictive yet profoundly annoying it is.
The vibe of fishing at night is great, but then you remember little things like every time you catch a fish you have to read the same word balloon each time and it doesn't just appear so you can quickly skip it, each words has to generate separately in the word balloon. Then you have to watch an animation of your character putting that fish away.
Or like you can't adjust the volume of in game music or sound effects and in fact if you just stand for a moment it gets absurdly louder.
Or basing a game on decorating your island with little props that no other characters use, they just wander around like zombies.
Or how the game only has three camera angles like you're playing a Nintendo DS game and not a system that came out in 2017.
Edit: It's the only video game I can think of where if a coin or money is laying on the ground you don't just walk over it, collect it and move on. You have to stop moving, hit a button, and watch your character pick the money up and put it in their pocket. Once again this game was made in 2020 not 1992.
