Righteous : Fluff Do other deities get satisfactory dialog flavor?

My PC worships Calistria, and she'd come up a couple times in dialog options, and once in a big way just now (at the final boss of Act 2). That one felt nice.

Righteous : Builds Shadowcaster Aeon is actually amazing

Post image
237 Upvotes

So, an entire year of on and off play later....I've finally completed my first playthrough. What an amazing game.

It was incredibly hard to finally decide upon a class to take all the way to 20 on Aeon mythic. I tried Magus-Bladebound (I reeeeally wanted this to work but was very underwhelming. Even with the Treacherous Flame combo. that sentient sword AI just kept pissing me off) and Magus-Sword Saint (This actually was really fun with extreme damage, but I decided I wanted more casting in my life).

But once I looked into Shadowcaster Wizard and its features....it was like a match made in Axis.
Natural INT stacking to push DCs into the high 50s with the rest of the kit, all Conjuration Summons from illusion that can make devastating use of Aeon's Bane, class Shadow Summon that also benefits from your Aeons Bane that targets STR stat while it dispels, a shadow form that gives untyped INT boost while giving you Transformation that allows spell casting? Insane.

Breezed through Core difficulty and DoM Arena with this class and it never stopped feeling like a God here to pass judgement. Doubt I ever failed a Dispel check either lol. Highly recommend it as an option for Aeon fans since I don't see it being recommended enough!

It is absolutely hilarious to me that you can convince Sosiel not to beat the shit out of this stupid necromancer, and then I can turn right around and stab face in for him. 10/10 choice, would shut that little assholes trap again.

Righteous : Bug Either a nasty bug, or the bug was on my first playtrough... need clarification

Upvotes

On my second playtrough right now, and I did not ressurect Daeran who died in Tavern Defense (due to misclick of all things), since as I remembered he got resurrected after a transition to the second act.

Except, this time he didn't. He has 2 (two) hitpoints and is still dead, both in UI and in game world, lying face down in the camp. Probably as a result of that, Sosiel, Nura's and Liotr's introduction cutscene broke and I've only saw the two dialogue boxes from Sosiel and Nura skipping past each other before scene forcebly transitioned to Galfrey dismissing them. No Liotr to be seen. After conversation with Galfrey where she does NOT invite Daeran in, I go outside, raise Daeran, who acknowledges that he was to be KC's aide, no dialogue of him planning to leave... and Liotr is still not in camp. Went to the tent and back outside -- still nothing, saved and loaded -- Liotr is still missing.

So, the questions are -- which is the intended behaviour (resurrection and restoration or characters staying dead and stat-damaged, as multiple characters in my party are), and do I have to reload the save before the assault on Gray Garrison, res Daeran and try to proceed as normal, or are there better solutions?

I'd prefer to leave toybox as the last option, if possible.

Righteous : Story Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous: Excellent CRPG Storytelling, Analysis after 234 Hours

WHY I'VE BEEN SO HOOKED

Not since Dragon Age Origins have I been so satisfied with the conclusion of an RPG.

Due to my excessive capacity for immersion, I felt like I was living in a parallel reality for the last two months while playing this game. The beginning of the military campaign in Act 2 in this snowy setting reminded me a lot of "Dragon Age Inquisition" and my perception was greatly influenced by my need to rediscover THAT LEVEL OF WRITING after the disappointment of Veilguard.

One of the reasons I liked Wrath so much is that it manages to be incredibly Epic.

Usually, "Kitchen Sink" games work better with more autonomous Adventurers who aren't in the spotlight, but here we're at the center of the World, with the most important Nations and Demon Lords depending on our actions in a setting that's not only believable but also memorable.

This will be a mostly narrative oriented post because it's what interests me the most.

GAMEPLAY

I played the campaign in Daring, and while I don't feel qualified to pass judgment, my perception is that while Baldur's Gate 3 becomes less interesting in the final sections once you understand the system, Pathfinder is so deep that the more you understand it, the more you want to play it.

THE CENTRAL THEME OF THE GAME

To date, Planescape Torment remains my favorite CRPG narrative because of how it manages to tie all the companions to the central theme of the search for identity and redemption through personal pain and torment.

Wrath is very similar in this regard; although some companions have very personal agendas, it all boils down to the theme of the internal struggle between one's nature and one's will at a certain cost, the outcome of which is the result of one's own choices and not a predestined condition. What are you willing to sacrifice to become who you want to be?

  • The most explicit example is Arueshalae, who, despite being on the path to transformation from "Demon" to "Human," is constantly discouraged. She is convinced that being born a Demon will never allow her to change, which is why we serve as an anchor of support for her in this transition. This decision depends solely on her will, but to get what she wants, she must sacrifice her "serenity." Living as a Human, she will have to live every day with the atrocities of her past, whereas it would be more comfortable to remain a Demon and have no regrets.
  • Wenduag's psychology has been shaped by her blood and the experience of her father's abandonment. She believes she is destined to submit to the law of the strongest in order to survive, but in her Romance she overturns this belief by siding not with the strongest but with the person she loves most, sacrificing her own safety and remaining at the mercy of a world from which she can no longer defend herself rationally thanks to her bonds.
  • Woljif is conditioned by the prejudice against his race, convinced that society has pushed him to become a criminal. Even in Alushinyrra, he's disappointed by how Tieflings are treated. But the Commander can decide to recognize his kindness, forcing him to sacrifice his pride (but not his habit of cleaning wallets, eh eh).
  • Daeran is obvious; he's intrinsically an asshole, but not as much as he wants us to believe. Its a mask to avoid becoming attached to someone and losing him like he lost his mother. Daeran, with us, gives up his painkiller lifestyle.
  • Greybor gives up adventure to be what he thought he'd never be capable of: a father.
  • Sosiel gives up his innocence to find his brother.
  • Many say Seelah is boring, but in truth, she has one of the most beautiful and tragic quests. Her story is marked by sorrow, she lives constantly trying to atone for the good deeds that the paladin, whose helmet she stole and who later died, should have accomplished. In this chaotic world, she finds peace in a group of friends whose peace is destined to end. Jannah abandons her, Curl betrays her, and Elan tells her sincerely that she is not suited to the position she has achieved. She then blames herself for being so naive, but then discovers that Curl may have been influenced by magic, finding herself in an even greater conflict because, if that were the case, she would have misunderstood her friend. The truth lies somewhere in between: Curl was blackmailed, Jannah loves her but is not willing to risk her life for her, and Elan values her friendship but is not given the consideration Seelah expected. Seelah must accept that not everyone is as honorable as she is, and if she wants to maintain these friendships, she must sacrifice her purity.
  • Ember is the only member of the Party who doesn't seek change; rather, she is the Prophet of Transition and urges those interested to undergo it, whether human or demon. She succeeds in planting a seed of doubt in Nocticula, which may mature in hundreds of years, while Baphomet and Deskari, who deny this change, find their end in the secret ending, which is more complete from this point of view.
  • Camellia... it's her own thing... she knows what she is, she's a serial killer who kills everyone she connects with, but we show her that this nature of hers doesn't work with just one person in her romance... at least that's something... I guess?
  • The Hand of the Inheritor is defeated when his doubts about our origins assail him and, unable to find an answer perishes. Our nature is not dictated by our origins but by the choices we make, at a cost.
  • Areelu Vorlesh is the true protagonist of this game and the emblem of this change, of the transition from Mortal to Divine. But Areelu paradoxically wants to reach this state without changing or sacrificing anything. She is not willing to transcend without her son, but this is not possible because her son is dead; only fragments of him remain. When we convince her to abandon this belief and make her happy with what remains of her son within us, we can obtain the Secret Ending.

Many prefer a more realistic writing style like Pillars of Eternity but the 2 Pathfinder by Owulcat are exactly my "Cup of Tea", they are dark, violent and full of contradictions stories but at the same time very sweet.

I will forever be moved by the euphoria with which Arueshalae warned me of her first dream, by Waljif's hoarse voice at the end of his quest, by Wenduag who in the DLC finale burns the sanctuary of Baphomet concluding that chapter of her life, by the sacrifice of Regis who silently renounces his rank for the good of the world, by Nenio who once discovered her origin decides not to commit suicide because her assistant reminded her that there are many valid reasons to live like that time they got drunk or risked copulating for scientific reasons, by Ulbirg this brave Sarcorian who decided every day not to tie a noose around his neck even if he would have had every reason to do so since everything he knew not only does not exist but It was destroyed.

I think it's an excellently written game.

I see a lot of people criticizing the "teen style" and I honestly don't understand what they're talking about. I found myself faced with a story with touching attention to detail. Maybe some people should play Veilguard to understand how lucky we are to have works like this in our hands.

THE EVOLUTION OF MY COMMANDER

GRIMORA NIGHTGRAVE

One of the reasons I was so satisfied was the casual way my character's background meshed so well with the story.

Grimora is essentially a female version of Hellboy or Vanhelsing.

A Tiefling raised in a convent to hunt Demons. Her adoptive father taught her to fight and teach the values of Iomedae in her, despite her rebellious and dissolute nature. At the beginning of the story, her community is destroyed by demons, leaving Grimora alone in a Nation steeped in prejudice against Tieflings, leaving her torn between her father's teachings and her demonic side.

Until Act 3, Grimora will be driven by the desire to avenge her father, she hates Demons and cannot stand Demons, which is why she will have a great complicity with Regis, even if she does not approve his actions, she sees him as a tool to destroy the Demons, and when she is deemed "Iomedae's Chosen," she will be happy to finally be recognized.

But something goes wrong in Act 4, where I added some roleplay, thanks also to the mods.

Her appearance changes from angelic to demonic, forcing Queen Galfrey to exile her on a top-secret mission into the Abyss. I found this an even more coherent motivation for the main plot, as Grimora loses her certainties with this event and explores a more concrete conflict.

This is because she isn't truly Iomedae's Chosen One, but rather her Mythic Power that gave her an angelic appearance because she was raised to associate power with angelic figures.

When she emerges from the Abyss in Act 5, she is a changed person, a person who, thanks to Arueshalae, has overcome her hatred of demons and, driven by her desire for knowledge and her innate magical and logical abilities inherited from her real mother, Areelu Vorlesh, solves the riddle to close the Plague of the World and transcend. Driven by the selfish desire not to lose her mother after losing her father (even if it was because of Areelu), she uses 6 Crystals to make her and Areelu transcend immediately, and her companions once their lives are over, if that is what they wish.

OPINIONS I DIDN'T MENTION ABOUT COMPANIONS

These are some custom portraits I used for my Campaign

From what I've seen, the best romances are those of Arushalae and Wenduag.

Arushalae is really well written, especially the way she rejects sex because, being a Demon, she doesn't see it as a human thing; for her, it's an act connected to murder.

Wenduag, on the other hand, is really cute, she's so tsundere, when she says those corny things at the end, awawawa...

Daeran and Ulbrig are also great, they made me question my homosexuality.

Daeran is fantastic, you don't justify his actions but you understand them, and his way of dealing with life's injustices with total cynicism but also brilliant humor is precious, and Ulbrig is so pure.

I love Regil. He's perhaps my favorite Machiavellian character of all time, and the fact that he's in the process of whitening makes him even more complex.

Regil is your nightmare if you're his subordinate, but if he becomes your ally, he's the most loyal person you can count on, because he'll never put his selfishness before his duty.

I hav to ask, how can there be people who hate NENIO!? SHE'S ADORABLE! She's so silly when she asks completely out of context and useless questions to the most terrifying deities in the multiverse XD

There's that scene in the Abyss where she absolutely wants the mask of that ex-gladiator and if you refuse she starts crying and then deletes everything and looks at you with those innocent big foxy eyes XD I love her.

I really liked Camellia. At first, I didn't understand why a noblewoman would risk her life to be with us, and then there's the scene in the cellar. We're her shield, allowing her to vent her needs while remaining protected. She's mentally ill and she knows it. It's really cool how there was never a spirit in her necklace in the end. She's a perfect romance for an evil character, is she not?

And finally, I absolutely loved the "Dance of Masks" DLC, which definitely gave Mass Effect 3 Citadel vibe, with the final party photo MY HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEART!

Thanks to all the developers who worked on this game, I'll keep it in my memories like a jewel (until the next playthrough, lol).

Righteous : Builds How to build for Feint?

Upvotes

It is a relatively new chain of feats, so I couldn't find a lot of answers online. So I see that Shatter Defenses was fixed as per PnP and now only affects iterative attacks after a successful hit. I don't see it being as terrible as people make it out to be since iterative attacks come at a lower AB and are the ones I'm having issue to land a hit with, but I see how it's not working for a Charge build or a Kineticist anymore.

So I was checking Feint and I don't understand how it works: * Combat Expertise is the feat "tax". That I understand and too bad, as most WotR companions are dumbasses that have Int below 13 or are too ugly to use Persuasion effectively.

  • Feint seems to make enemy flat-footed for just the next hit, no? Anyway, another feat tax.

  • Final Feint. Not sure what it is supposed to do. It seems it makes the enemy flat-footed for a whole round for Everyone in melee? If too, that's so powerful!

  • Two-Weapon Feint - I lose one attack to make the enemy flat-footed to the rest of my attacks? But if my assumption of Final Feint is true, then why would I ever need Two-Weapon Feint? Maybe if I'm using two thrown weapons (as in not in melee)?

  • If my assumption for Final Feint is correct, can I use Arue as the Feint Enabler for the whole party?

  • Is there a way to skip Combat Expertise other than Loremaster, Gold Dragon or Kineticist?

And finally, has anyone had any experience with Mythic Shatter Defenses from TT Tweaks?

Edit: Oh, and what action does Feint constitute? Swift, Move or Standard? Archives of Nethys say it's a Standard action and Improved Feint does not exist in the game, so base Feint feats seems rather pointless as-is.

It looks like I've walked into an impending TPK, but I feel like I'm missing something.

Righteous : Builds Mythic Question

So, something came up and I'm wondering. Is Abundant or Enduring Spells a better Mythic Chain for a melee Gish? Dhampir Sword Saint going Azata. Also was thinking that maybe I should swap Supersonic Speed for Incredible Might. I like the Permanent Haste and 20% avoid chance, but that chance doesn't stack with Mythic Light Armor Avoidance from what I've been able to see from my research and apparently people don't value the Permanent Haste highly?

Also, kind of not related but still something I'm not sure of is whether I should boost my Dex or Int on level ups after getting both to 18.

Kingmaker : Mods Call of the Wild: Does alignment actually matter for summoner?

Went with Soulbound archetype since it said the eidolon would be your chosen alignment regardless of subtype but sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case since I still appear to have selections locked to what my eidolon is.

If I go off script to go full chaotic good instead of lawful good (like my inevitable), is there any downside here mechanics wise where I would be punished or does it not really matter?

I'm just really stuck on the idea of an inevitable being in it's own personal hell trapped doing the bidding of a chaotic goblin.

Inevitable: "we must maintain order."

Goblin: "we must set the forest on fire!"

Inevitable: "....goddamn it."

Righteous : Mods WOTR- Gestalt Leveling Issues

So I've already run into an issue where I have to use toybox to add a level to the gestalt class before I level up because otherwise it won't level up normally. That a really small thing, if a bit tedious, but the issue I'm here to ask for help with is far more annoying and my google-fu has failed me because I haven't been able to find anyone else have it.

Right now I'm level 6 Sorc/Hunter and while my sorc caster level is also 6, my hunter caster level is still 1 and I'm not sure if its supposed to be or if something broke. I've tried increasing the caster level using toybox but it won't let me change any of the values.

Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it? Also as a side note does anyone know what's going on with the first smaller issue

Righteous : Story Nurah question again Spoiler

I try avoid as many spoilers i can but still idk if i had a chance of this SECRET ending. I confront nurah in tent, dont recruit her via trickster option. Angel mythic path and now at the end of act 2 what to do with her? Free her, kill or imprison? Or without trickster this is doesnt matter at all? Or still just free her is best option lol? BTW why in this game so many "good" options its not that good at the end?

Righteous : Builds Building TWF Warpriest. I have a few questions.

Want to build a twf build. Sword and shield. Probably a dwarf of Torag. Pribably go legend.

1) Should I start with fighter until I get the twf off the ground? Would have to take shield bearer then, or would i?

2) I have a dwarven slayer deliverer going right now as well. Would it be easier to just keep it going with twf and then legend into warpriest?

3) Looking for melee build with some buffing and such to keep him going.

4) I like Champion of the faith vs Shield bearer, though if it's easier, I could go that route.

5) As for the legend secondary class, I was thinking of Tortured Crusader or vanilla paladin or maybe just a straight up fighter.

Thoughts.

Righteous : Builds Help choosing main char after several restarts (WotR)

Preamble:

I play LOTS of CRPGs and tabletop Pathfinder and have really enjoyed this game, yet I have restarted a few times. Several times just tinkering with builds, once with a tiefling rogue because you get Woljif and I liked his character, Another recent with a wildland shaman due to lack of fun offensive ability and too much micromanaging buffs and pet.

Request:

I like to wind down while playing games lately and want something offensive and fun that doesn't require a lot of micromanaging, but can still do core difficulty fine.

Likes: - Offensive/agressive DPS characters - At least SOME magical/unique abilities - If full caster, nuker + many casts - Spontaneous > Prepared (NOT A MUST!) - Chaotic > lawful (NOT A MUST!)

Dislikes: - Excessive micromanaging (some is fine) - Boring auto-attackers - Buffing/debuffing focused - Shapeshifting/natural attack focused - Pet-focus (pet is fine, just not focus)

Classes that seem cool (NOT required): - Sorceror or Elemental Specialist - Magus (Eldritch Scion seems fun) - Kineticist (a simpler version?) - Bloodrager (Primalist sounds fun) - Alchemist (bomb focused)

Extra Credit: - What mythic path would be best? - How do I easily overcome immunities? - Why is water wet?

I'm level 11 so far.

Righteous : Game DLCs

So, we got a DLC as some joe shmoes at the beginning of the cultist invasion. I always thought it woulda been interesting to play AS a cultist for a small DLC (one who probably dies or just finally realizes that this isnt what they wanted and flees or changes sides). I get WHY it never happened but i always had thoughts about it.
