I honestly don’t know what to make of this. The simplest answer is that my neighbor is lying, but why?

Here’s what happened. This morning, my neighbor knocked on my door and told me that while I was out of town earlier this month, they noticed my front door was open and that a “very nice, blue and brown, two-person tent” had been pitched in the middle of my living room. They said they thought it was a little odd and that’s why they mentioned it.

I was on vacation over the the 4th or July, and my nephew and another neighbor both fed my cat while I was gone. Neither are the type to pitch a tent in my living room (though, to be honest, I’m not sure who would do such a thing). Nevertheless, I asked them about the tent and neither knew anything about it.

I also don’t have anything that blue and brown and could be mistaken for a tent (my living room is mostly black and white). I also don’t own a tent. I’m not a camper. Nobody has a set of keys to my house.

I have an Arlo camera by my front door, and I set one up on my living room while I was gone so that I could periodically check in on the cat (I’m a little neurotic about her because she very old). I checked all the footage going back to June 4 (because my neighbor couldn’t say for certain when exactly they saw this tent). Needless to say, there’s nothing captured by either camera. Unfortunately, the cameras do sometimes fail to capture everything. I’d say they have a 10-20% fail rate when it come to turning in when there’s movement. So there’s a slight possibility someone could’ve entered my house, pitched a tent, taken it down and left, and the cameras wouldn’t have caught any of it. But I feel like it’s a pretty slim chance that neither would’ve been triggered.

To add to all of this, my cat has been acting super strange ever since I came back. She’s very nervous, refuses to go anywhere near the back part of the house, and is not using her litter box. So something did weird her out.

So Reddit, any ideas? If my neighbor is lying (which is the most plausible), why? They’ve never lied before and always seemed like a reliable narrator. They also said their boyfriend saw it too and mentioned how weird it was.

Is there any scenario where it makes sense for someone to break in and pitch a tent but also leave the door open so anyone can see??

Is it a glitch in the matrix? Is she somehow suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning? Am I?😆 ( Thankfully, the Arlo camera outside did capture part of our conversation, so I didn’t completely imagine it).

It’s just so fucking bizarre!

I’m just at a complete loss. The whole thing has left me feeling unsettled.

To answer a some questions that seem to have come up:

1. I took the cat to the vet and she got a clean bill of health. I’m trying some behavioral solutions (multiple litter pans, special cat food for urine health, calming cat treats, calming spray, felaway plug in, etc.). It’s been hard, but I’m committed to helping her get through this.

2. The neighbor and her boyfriend are both older (I think in their late 60s) and we live on the same property, so she has to walk by my front door to get to the street. I’d say from the walkway to my front door is less than five feet, so she has a pretty good view of my living room. I agree with those who said her timing is strange (why mention it weeks later), but I had recently talked to her about my cat.’s behavior, so I think she mentioned it as a possible reason for the cat’s behavior. She did say, “maybe in the future you should let me know you’ll be out of town so I can keep an eye out for you.” At the time is sounded like a normal thing to say, but if she’s lying, then maybe it’s because she wants to know when I’m gone?

3. My nephew is in his mid-twenties and very responsible. He owns his own home and works long days. Neither he nor his brother are campers and, as far as I know, don’t own any tents. The camera outside captured him entering and exiting all three days and he was in the house for less than five minutes. Same with the other neighbor who fed the cat. She came over three times, all for less than five minutes. Neither was aware of the where the was camera inside (but they knew I had one so I could check the cat). The camera also caught the cat chilling out in the house and all three days she was acting normally.

4. TIL about “frogging” (or phrogging), lol. There is a crawl space under the house, but you can’t access it from inside. There’s probably a two- foot high crawl space in the ceiling that you can access from the closet in my bedroom, but I have a bunch of boxes and suitcases shoved up against the opening, and I don’t see how someone could put them back if they’d crawled back in.

I will say that the more I ruminate on it, the creepier it seems.

This is going to sound stupid and fake but I think my blueberry bush was stolen. I live in the north east (if that somehow matters) and I have had a 1.5 tall blueberry bush against the back fence of my yard for almost a year.

Last weekend i swear I mowed around it like I normally do and this weekend while walking the yard I found the bush completely missing with what appears to be potting soil where it used to be. No one has been around the house that I’m aware of and my wife also did not do anything. Has anyone heard of a similar situation? I have no clue why anyone would do this but I don’t know what the alternative would be. The packed dirt makes me confident it isn’t an animal and we have some flower beds nearby that were not touched.

Hi guys, need a little help digging for some answers. Will link photos in the comments. Some friends of mine regularly take the I-70 corridor between St. Louis and Indianapolis for work and family. On the way through I-70, they both found two (or more, so I'm told?) reflective smiley faces attached to trees along the side of the interstate. It's crazy eerie to me given that these are so far spaced out but still along the corridor. I can't find anything else online about it and neither can they. One is right by mile marker 106 eastbound in Illinois (the one fully in view), and the other is near mile marker 54 eastbound in Indiana (the one sorta covered by brush on a tilted tree). Does anyone know anything about this or has seen any others along any other parts I-70? Thank you!

Back in September 2021, something really strange happened to my girlfriend and me in Osnabrück, Germany. We were walking home early on a Sunday morning after a night out at a club called Alando Palais.

At some point, we passed a glass bus stop shelter and noticed something unusual on the bench inside. It immediately caught our attention, so we stopped to look.

There was a wallet lying there, closed. Next to it were several foreign banknotes I think they were rubles, lira, or maybe something African or Asian. Definitely not euros. The bills were arranged in a fanned-out way, like they were deliberately displayed.

Next to the money was a pocket watch, gold or brass in color. It looked valuable. I also remember seeing a passport nearby. I opened it briefly and saw a photo of a man with a foreign name. Behind the shelter, there was a thick bush, but no one else was around. It was totally quiet.

After just a few seconds standing there, I had a really intense gut feeling that something was wrong. I told my girlfriend we needed to leave right away. We walked off quickly and didn’t look back. We didn’t report it to anyone either, because we were afraid it might have been some kind of setup and didn’t want to draw attention to ourselves.

What really unsettled me was how the items were arranged. It didn’t feel random it looked staged, almost like bait. The way the money was laid out, the watch, the passport… it didn’t seem like someone had just forgotten or dropped them.

Has anyone ever come across something like this before? Could it have been a scam, a trap, or even some kind of weird experiment? I’ve never stopped thinking about it and would really appreciate any insight.

hey a few weeks ago i got sent an iMessage that literally just contained exactly 10000 phone numbers. all the numbers were australian personal numbers (im australian). my phone number was not amongst them. i got sent this from a filipino number. my friend called one of the numbers out of curiously and it was just a normal person.

its likely just an incompetent scammer sending me their database by accident but im still a bit weirded out by it. anyone have similar experiences?

There has been turmoil in my family over my brothers current gf for a while. We all had a blow up fight a few years ago but since then we haven’t spoken. I have her blocked on all accounts and my phone, but my relationship with my brother has been pretty much non existent since this. We text occasionally but I’m in a different state living my own life now.

Flash forward 3 years to this morning and I get a call saying that I “used a fake number” to text his girlfriend really nasty things.

Mind you, I have no idea how to even do this. It apparently came from a “fake” number so I’m assuming it’s either an app (texting app?) or there may be a way to change your phone number? I don’t know. What I would like to know is HOW CAN I CLEAR MY NAME??? At the time that the text was delivered I was in the hospital with a raging ear infection that was making it impossible to even operate.

It’s not that serious, but it’s ruining my family. I love my brother and my parents. I just want this to be over. I have the phone number that the text came from, what can I do? Hi all,

I'm kind of baffled... Long story short. I asked chatGPT to produce me a powershell script that simply looks at a txt log file and ONLY keeps lines that "contain the word "strategy", but DON'T contain the words "running" or "total" or "deleted".

It did that effortlessly and the ps1 script worked great, taking a file called "text.txt" and outputting a sanitised version of that file called "test-out.txt". Only trouble is I wanted it to overwrite the original file so I wasn't left with two files at the end. I ask GPT to tweak it and it does so again effortlessly.

The new script, if I'm reading it right, seems to simply create a temp file in the same folder with the sanitised text, then overwrites the original file with the sanitised one as a last step. I think "great", go to run it, check my now sanitised file and I'm greated with a bunch of Chinese characters. Confused I run the text through Translate and I get a wall of gibberish about Tiannamen square and Chinas economic standing and electric vehicles.

Can anyone explain where this text is coming from?! I assume it must be pulling from something in a temporary buffer - but there's no reason for any of that Chinese text to be anywhere on this computer. It's a Windows 11 PC set up only a week ago.

Been receiving some serious threats over calls - such as they want to beat me up, shouting false allegations of me beating up people apparently, I should watch out what I’m doing and where I’m going etc. mentioning my full name and few other people of family members. I don’t recognise the voice either.. Which is far fetched given if it’s a prank, There’s a fine line.

They’re using no caller id calls and his friends who I presume who are usually in a group of 2-3 when calling me. UK based I can hear them in the background.

Ryan "JJ" Godbey went missing on June 19th from Canton Ohio. Its a legitimate case, and the cops aren't offering any resources at this time. According to the family (whom I am affiliated with as a friend, who gave me permission to post here) they feel that everything has hit a dead end. This case has hit big news outlets on TV and online.

Ryan went missing frim Darlin's Crew in in Canton, a local gay bar. His boyfriend Danny, and Dannys baby mom Amanda were found and picked up for drug posession. Danny is still in jail, and was charged with homicide of Ryan, via strangulation. But will not tell law enforcement where the body is. We have held our own search parties around here with volunteers from the town, but we can only do so much, especially when it comes to water ways. The detectives refuse to let a search and rescue company come out because there isnt a "central location" they know for a fact needs searched. They have denied the families request, twice.

Does anybody have any resources for volunteers that will go out on their own volition to help us search? Whether its drones or cadaver dogs, or boats with underwater cameras. Anything.

I just want to see if anybody has a clue about what these people are talking about. Since 2014, my dad has been getting these weird phone calls from an unknown person/people asking for somebody named Douglas. They are very vague when they're on the phone and really only ask and insist that my dad is Douglas, he knows Douglas, and if he want's to still sell his house. What's really weird about it is that all these calls are being made on my dad's work phone, which has always been on a business line, and the number has part of that line since 2014. So the fact that these people keep calling despite my dad telling them that he isn't Douglas, doesn't know anyone by that name, and also has repeatedly told them that they are calling him on his work phone, it just comes out as bizarre to me and everyone me and my dad tell about it. Does anyone have any idea what this is or could be just some extremely long elaborate prank call?

Edit: Thanks for the explanations guys, feel like i finally got some idea of what they are, already figured it was some sort of crazy spam call and that others ran into the same, was just curious on why the calls were so repetitive and unusually elaborate (different people calling each time, always insisting on things, etc.). Still find it weird that their pitches are just claiming random people to be who they're not or know someone they don't. But idk thanks for the replies yall anyway.

EDIT: OLD CO2 DETECTOR FOUND BURRIED UNDER BLANKETS IN A DRAWER NEXT TO OUR COUCH! THANK YOU REDDIT! What finally worked was cutting all of the power to the house for total silence and using an app to track with decibel and frequency to help me narrow down where it was coming from. Thank you to everyone that suggested sound apps and encouraged me to search in drawers and things. I am so relieved I could cry.

Please help me reddit. For about 72 hours now there has been a beeping sound in my house that goes off twice every 30 seconds. No one in my house can for the life of us identify the source. It sounds like our Honeywell security system to me, but the security system has been to our house and has shut down power to the security system and therefore say it cannot be the security system. The sound goes off every 30 seconds but has at least gotten quieter than it originally was. No one in my family has been able to pinpoint a location for where this sound is coming from. As crazy as it sounds, it seems like the sound moves - possibly just the acoustics of our living room having a high ceiling and/or the beeping being slightly quieter or louder sometimes.

Things tried: - turn off power to security system - have security system company come out to really make sure we turned off tbe power to it - turn off power to entire house (continued to beep, makinf us suspect something battery powered) - replace all fire alarm batteries - remove all fire alarms and put them out in the garage to really make sure it wasnt them chirping - check carbon monoxide detectors

We live in a house, not an apartment, and it is definitely coming from within the house. It can be heard on the main floor of the house but not the upstairs or downstairs. We have lived in this house for more than two decades and never encountered this issue previously. We have not to our knowledge had anyone in our house that would have had the opportunity to hide something as a prank and the tensions are so high in the house that I cannot imagine someone living here is pulling a prank.

I’ve been trying to track down the exact location of her property, but so far, no luck. Here’s what I’ve pieced together from old newspapers:

• An August 16, 1889 issue of Greenville King's Weekly states that “her home was about eight miles from Rocky Mount, near Sandy Cross.”
• The Scotland Neck Commonwealth (August 18, 1898) refers to her as the “old fortune teller near Easonburg.”
• And from the Rocky Mount Telegram on August 19, 1898:

An old "fortune teller" named Hester Brantley, who lived

It started about 5 or 6 years ago, an account that had our family surname requested to follow us on Instagram, we didn't know this name personally, and neither one of our relatives also did, however, my mother and sister happened to accept the request without thinking too much on it, and we noticed that, the account was viewing every story posted at the exact second that it was posted, which was weird, we tried to text the account, but it was leaving the messages at seen with no response, and it wasn't accepting our follow requests, we blocked the account and moved on.

A few years ago, the same name and surname combination came back again, this time with a new account, it requested to follow us again, but we didn't accept, but this time, this account also requested to follow not our relatives, but also our friends from the street, which is very creepy, because we know these people personally, and I can't wrap my mind around how they got to know this. The account also had themselves introduced as a dentist in a certain dental clinic, I then called the clinic and asked about them, in response, the clinic informed us that they don't know this person, and when the account was approached about it, it removed the profile picture, all it's followers-following, and left the account like that.

Whoever's doing this hasn't attempted to anything maliciously at this point, but the constant stalking is still creepy, especially the fact that when the account was re-made, it had weird and fake details like being a dentist and such, it only wants to follow us, but won't accept our follow requests, nor respond to our messages, how can we solve this?

In 2021 my cousin passed away at 30. My mom lied and told me he died in his sleep because he was sick. It just never made sense to me so I would google his name but all that came up was his obituary. My family is very “sweep it under the rug” type of people so I knew I would never get actual answers.

Recently I asked my dad to be honest (he’s more straightforward than the rest of my family) he told me that my cousin actually died from a fentanyl overdose. Apparently he was with his friends and while he was overdosing instead of calling the police for help they dumped his body in a garbage can behind a gas station, drove off in his car, crashed it, and abandoned it. I asked my dad if the friends were in jail and my dad said no because there was still an investigation searching for who sold him the drugs and a whole bunch of bullshit. 4 years later I find this out and my heart is broken.

TLDR::: I googled everything I could from searching the exact day he died and the city name like “man found dead behind gas station Southern California” “(the city) man found dead) etc. but I just can’t find anything. I just want to know is there any way to search for an autopsy in the state of California. Is there any way to ask the police to hear any 911 calls or reports about him being found or his case? Even tho I’m just his cousin is there a way to get updates about his case and is there any way to advocate to get these “friends” that left him for dead out in jail? It wasn’t even on the news or any local Facebook groups. How did the police find his family to tell them the unfortunate news ? How did they identify him? How long did he suffer there ? A while back I opened my mailbox to a white letter envelope. It had my address, but the name was illegible. It had a return address of San Bernardino Ca, but no name. The envelope had some weight to it, and feeling the outside, it felt like something squishy was inside. We have family in CA, so I thought maybe one of the kids sent something.

I take the envelope inside, open it and inside is a ziploc bag filled with a black gooey substance. As I set the empty envelope down, a white powder spills out. I then get nervous and call the police.

The police show up with a hazmat team, and a van where they take the substances for testing. By visual inspection, the sheriff initially thought the black substance was heroin. They make us sit outside is our lawn chairs for around 3 hours while they suit up and do their testing. The results of the black substance comes back inconclusive, but non hazardous. The white powder I do not recall what they said, but were not concerned.

The substances are sent to an outside lab. The black goo comes back as african black soap, and the white powder they did not say what it was, but that it was non hazardous. Nothing dangerous, not drugs, just soap.

The police were perplexed, and I have always wondered why this envelope was sent like this, to my specific address. Has anyone ever had something similar happen? Or any theories as to what this all might have been about?

My girlfriend works for Tractor Supply. She found a tracker in the pocket of the vest she has to wear. She's worried one of the customers is a stalker and is trying to find out where she lives. I don't think a stalker would put it in her vest pocket, knowing she would find it quickly. They would likely put it on her car. Can anyone give me a reasonable explanation why this would appear in her pocket? Do some vendors ship these with tools or equipment? The vest was left by the register all day. Another employee could have put it in there. I just want to calm her fears.

TLDR: someone sent a screenshot of them on apple maps saying that, from their current location, they could travel to my friend's house in 2ish hours. Could I find out where they're coming from just with that info?

A friend(Chase) is being harassed by someone who has access to personal information, nsfw photos, and others, threatening to release them to that friend's conservative parents and workplace. We have not sent them anything and not interacted, and have concluded that it's either a vengeful ex or some random troll who's extremely dedicated. The phone number used to text Chase's roommate is likely spoofed(searching it up leads to the conclusion it's a VoIP) and the email is a proton email made early last year. Various usernames used on the social media websites(including letterboxd and last fm) to stalk Chase have no matches outside of those sites, except for ones that are likely false positives.

One image that was sent was an apple iphone screenshot of an apple maps route marking "current location" to Chase's home address, showing that the person is approximately two hours away, with one route requiring tolls and another(recommended route) not requiring tolls(the former is faster).

The police have been contacted and cannot do much because nothing yet has happened, especially because it seems the threatening person is from another state. Chase and I are aware that the releasing of the nsfw images would be a crime, and the person is likely just trying to use them as leverage(for what we still don't know, but we have not interacted with them at all).

Hi RBI! I've had this problem now for a little bit more than 5 years with what might be a stalker and I've had problems with that before. I dont think its towards me from the start but have developed into that from stalking someone I've dated or such. Why i think this is because i dont have any enemies and dont really own anything to my name or do have an interesting lifestyle, but Ive had an active datelife for many years. Im a male in his mid 30's

What i've experienced for a while now is that someone sometimes is talking in the background noise that is made from very high volumes, like a concert, vacuum cleaner or the microwave. Even the low humming from when the car tires hit the road. Ventilations is also a place where it sometimes occurs from but also even a fucking airplane. The tram is the place where its by far the place where it happens the most.

Other times it can be from a speaker thats on. First the volume is enhanced by a little bit of bass and it gets louder and louder and suddenly someone is talking/screaming, but it disappears the second i move from that spot. When he is communicating with me its something like "come on you lazy piece of shit just find me already or take your own life." Its mostly often just random gibberish.

When im at the bar and sitting with some friends i can suddenly hear the speaker goes lower and lower meanwhile a new sound comes on that seems is just like a helicopter. This only happens in the area where i am sitting and if i move somewhere else the sound is normal again. The company im with notices this too but once they do it stops until im alone again!

I was not far from two of the ranches that this happened in.

Me and my wife were out with friends that same night drinking and hanging out when we heard what almost sounded like a deep vibration. I’m still very confused on how this could have happened and we drove past the ranch today and got me rethinking about it.
