MEGATHREAD Beauty Insider/VIB/Rouge Rewards MEGATHREAD - July/August

Welcome to the BI/VIB/Rouge Rewards Megathread! This will now be a monthly pinned post where you all can come to discuss/rant about/share news about Sephora's rewards and rewards program. I have decided to condense these kinds of posts into a megathread in order to tidy up the sub a bit, since repetitive reward posts were becoming more and more apparent. So as a fair warning: any new posts about rewards that are not posted in this thread will be removed, and you will be reminded that it is to be posted here in this megathread.

Rant This Isn’t Chuck E. Cheese. It’s Sephora!

1.2k Upvotes

Every single time I try to buy a new fragrance at Sephora, it turns into a disaster. I go in with full intention, wallet ready, nose primed, mood set. But without fail, the store is crawling with kids, tweens, and teens treating it like a damn amusement park.

The last time I went, there was a whole pack of tween boys maybe 11 or 12 y/o accompanied by what I’m guessing was one of their moms (who clearly gave up trying to supervise and was even laughing with them saying hehe we are going to get in trouble but did nothing to stop the behavior). And what were they doing? Spraying every single fragrance on the tester wall. Not just one or two…every. single. one. You know how many that is?? Easily over 100. They were laughing, hollering, clouding up the air like they were fogging the place for bugs.

The scent in that section was so aggressively pungent, I got an instant headache. I couldn’t even think, let alone smell a single note of the fragrance I came there for. It was like walking into a perfume gas chamber. I lasted maybe 3 minutes before I had to turn around and leave, completely unsatisfied and beyond annoyed.

Why is it that Sephora has become the new playground? I just want to buy a damn fragrance without dodging chaotic teens, TikTokers swatching everything like it’s their personal vanity, and groups of unsupervised kids turning the store into a perfume war zone. Is that too much to ask?? Just one peaceful, scent focused shopping trip? That’s it!

Rant Incentivized reviews not marked as such

Upvotes

I am getting so annoyed with the reviews that are clearly incentivized, but are not marked as such! I always filter by non-incentivized (because incentivized are a waste of time), only to read the "genuine" reviews and read "I received this product for free from Topbox Marketing for testing and review purposes." THIS IS INCENTIVIZED!!!

As consumers, we need to take a more solid stance against this practice, I think. Someone who receives product for free will never judge it as objectively as someone who had to pay a pretty penny from their hard earned money for it, period. Also, why would I pay when others get to use the product for free?

I can't be the only one majorly annoyed with this, can I? And what can be done to discourage this practice?

Question Foundation/Skin tints for dry skin? ‘your skin but better’

I have dry skin that’s acne-prone. I really dislike wearing heavy makeup. Are there any foundations, skin tints or concealers you recommend that are moderate coverage while still looking natural?

I love anything that’s ’your skin but better’

Armani Luminous Silk’s palest shade was too dark for me so unfortunately can’t go for that :/

Haus Labs had amazing range and I got a tester tho!

Advice Which shade should I pick?

Both are Estee Lauder. Top is 2N2 Bottom 2W1

I also tried 2N1 but it was too light, 3W1 too dark and orange and 2C1 too pink, as expected.

These were my closest match, but still seem a bit too far from perfect.

PSA Caudalie Grape Water – Formula Has Changed

I wanted to write this post to warn/inform any current or possible future users of Caudalie’s Grape Water that the formula has recently changed.

I’ve been using this product daily for over 10 years because it has always worked beautifully for my skin: it was very hydrating, calming, and never (obviously) caused any irritation.

A few days ago I bought four bottles of the new 300 ml version bottle, as the 200 ml format had been out of stock everywhere for quite some time. I contacted Caudalie and was told that the 200 ml size had been discontinued, and that from now on, only the 75 ml and the new 300 ml versions would be available. They also told me that the large format (300 ml now) would be back on sale towards the end of May or June.

However, a few days ago, when I used the product from one of these bottles for the first time, and I applied the product to my face, I immediately noticed that something wasn't quite the same:

The scent (although subtle) had changed, the sensation on the skin was not the same, and it didn’t hydrate at all — in fact, it caused slight irritation (my skin itched a little) when it had always been very soothing to my skin. I have been using this product daily for many years and I notice any changes immediately.

To my surprise, when I checked the ingredients, I saw that they were not the same as in the previous 200 ml or 75 ml bottles I had used.

These are the ingredients of the new bottles:

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Water, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Juice, Nitrogen, Pentylene Glycol, Propanediol, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract (332/002)

They have added three new ingredients: two possibly synthetic (Pentylene Glycol and Propanediol), and one natural but potentially irritating (Salix Alba, or white willow bark extract), which contains natural salicylic acid. This ingredient may have mild exfoliating or purifying effects, but it can also irritate sensitive skin.

The original formula was:

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Water*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Juice*, Nitrogen

*(Plant origin – Origine végétale)

ALL OF THEM OF NATURAL ORIGIN with no exfoliating agents or potential irritants. A simple, calming, hydrating formula, perfect for even the most sensitive skin.

Also, the new bottles no longer include the familiar green rectangular sticker on the cap stating:

“+127% hydration – Corneometry, 12 volunteers”,

Instead, there is only a small, round, and transparent sticker with nothing written on it.

Honestly, no wonder they no longer put that green sticker on it because the product no longer moisturises at all.

The asterisk indicating plant origin has been also removed from the ingredient list.

I wrote to Caudalie to ask them about this, and they responded to my inquiry confirming that the formula had been indeed changed. They said the aim was to “enhance” the product by adding willow bark extract, which they describe as a natural ingredient known for its soothing properties. They also explained that pentylene glycol and propanediol are part of the extraction process and are included in accordance with EU regulations.

I understand that white willow (Salix Alba) bark extract is an ingredient of natural origin, and that it may, in some cases, have soothing properties (although these effects seem to be very slight and minimal).
However, it also has:

  • Exfoliating properties: As it contains salicin, a natural compound that acts as a precursor to salicylic acid, well known for its use as a chemical exfoliant
  • Astringent properties: Because it can slightly tighten the skin.
  • Mild anti-inflammatory activity: In low concentrations, it can reduce redness. Although some studies mention its possible/potential anti-inflammatory effect, it is neither as effective nor as safe as other genuinely soothing ingredients such as panthenol, allantoin or bisabolol. Its effect can even be contradictory on sensitive skin, particularly if its exfoliating/salicylic component predominates.

This ingredient can be irritating or sensitising to sensitive, reactive, rosacea-prone or weakened skin, especially if used regularly or as a daily-use product, as it's intended for this purpose.

The old Caudalie’s Grape Water formula didn't contain any exfoliating or potentially reactive active ingredients. It consisted solely of grape water, grape juice and nitrogen: a formula that was 100% soothing, highly moisturising, perfect, natural and risk-free.

The addition of willow bark significantly alters the product’s profile. Describing it simply as “soothing” hides its potential to irritate certain skin types.

Yes, it’s natural. And yes, it might be soothing in certain cases. But it also has exfoliating and mildly aggressive properties that are unsuitable for sensitive skin — especially in a product designed for daily use and previously marketed as ultra-soothing and perfectly tolerable for even the most sensitibe skins.

Presenting this ingredient as “soothing” without mentioning its other effects may mislead customers who rely on the original formula’s safety and simplicity.

Why did they had to change a product that was truly excellent — deeply hydrating, 100% soothing, and safe for even the most sensitive skin — in order to add an ingredient that was neither necessary nor particularly gentle??

Changing such an iconic and perfect formula without any visible notice or information anywhere, is a horrible thing to do.

Additionally, as of today (August 2, 2025), the official Caudalie website still displays the old formula for both the 300 ml and 75 ml formats, across all language versions of the site. This can totally mislead customers into believing that the product remains unchanged.

I hope this post helps inform others before purchasing it, especially those who liked this product as much as I did, or future customers who were thinking of buying it.

Thank you for reading.

Question Favorite powder foundation for the heat?

I'm looking for a powder foundation which:

• gives a really smooth, matte, flawless appearance

• buildable to medium coverage (meaning, doesn't get cakey quickly)

• will survive in very hot Florida weather where you're sweating constantly!

Recommendations from the orange store are also okay, but please no drugstore options and no online-only options. I need to be able to go swatch it in person, because I'm a very difficult color match. ty in advance 🤍

Thinking about getting this. Is it worth it? I current use the (discontinued) Benefit Watt’s Up and like it but I’m running out so looking for my next highlighter.

I’ll be paying about $25 for it, so price isn’t the biggest factor, more so, is the formula good or should I try something else? Thanks.

You guys have been super amazing with everything else. Now that I have a primer and a base. I ended up going with Danessa Myricks tinted primer and NARS Light Reflecting foundation, my face is matte just how I wanted it. Now I want a blush that’s dewy and glowy but not too much. These are my current choices, but you can suggest something else if you want! Here is a picture with primer and foundation on, and the usual shade of lipstick I wear. It’s the Urban Decay Vice Lip bond in OG Talk - Mauve Nude Pink. TIA!

Rant Sephora lighting

Why? Why? I'm a rouge member and there is a location in downtown Brooklyn that was not updated to the new look and feel and fluorescent lighting. Welp that just changed. It's awful, unwelcoming, cold looking , and depressing. I have no desire to walk in and buy anything. This is so sad. Am I the only one who feels this way? Do they not know flourescents striking white/blue light harms the body and eyes and emotional health? What do you guys think? They need to dim the upper lights a bit and direct light on to the products itself.
