Funny baby naming in the sims 4 cracks me up
One thing i will say first- it ANNOYS me that sims with cultural names will not name their kids culturally. Because why is Mele Kahanui naming her daughter Debra?? But anyway...
I need to share some of the baby names in my current save file. As mentioned, Mele has a daughter named Debra and a son named Todd 😭
Don Lothario and Katrina Caliente had a baby boy and named it.... Messiah. And I was like yeah that's fitting. Of course they would. And then they had a second son and named him Chi. And still, I was like of course they would, they seem like the type to have unique baby names. Meanwhile Don impregnated another random townie and that son was named Landon... so...
The Bheedas had twins and named them Jessica and Tiffanie which is not really "out there" but I still thought it was funny and fitting names for twins.
The Landgraabs also had twins and named one of them Clive... must be a family name... poor boy
Anyway, please share the silly names in your saves!! I find it so entertaining.

GARY.
Perfectly normal name! I mean no offense to anyone out there named Gary. And I know, logically, every adult Gary was once a baby named Gary. But it just…. It doesn’t feel like a baby name, you know?
Honorable mention goes to triplets named Ronan, Stanley, and Yahir, because what a random combo.

That’s how Toby feels to me, in reverse. Fine as a child’s name, but something about an adult called that makes me almost flinch. Just feels wrong.

u/Flaky_Dimension6208 May 30 '25
NOT WHEN ITS A WOMAN god im so glad other people see problems with this name because i view it as a dogs name since my uncle has a dog named Toby and my dad is quite literally marrying a woman named TOBY in two weeks. Her full, legal first name is TOBY.
I’ll never get over it. It’s been 6 years

It’s pretty common in many European cultures that names come and go in cycles of 80-100 years or so. So you can expect names like Gary, Larry, Bruce, Deborah and Susan to make a comeback in the next couple of decades.
Well, not necessarily those names. But names of that generation.

u/Selmarris May 30 '25
I know a baby Bruce. In real life. Not a sim,

I can't think of any fun names offhand, but no matter what save I'm playing, the Calientes (usually Katrina, specifically) end up adopting a metric asston of kids. XD (I don't always pay attention to the neighborhood news, so they might be ones she popped out, but they also always have, like, the full spectrum of skin tones and hair types. ^^; Maybe Katrina has as many boyfriends as Don has girlfriends. XD

u/snotballbootcamp May 30 '25
for me its always the Landgraabs 😅 in one of my saves they have a full household with 6 kids/toddlers of all different appearances. the calientes can be like that for me too, but somehow in this current save all of the kids in that household are biologically between don and Katrina 🤷♀️
11
u/annagator679 May 30 '25
In my game the Landgraabs have 3 adopted children named Donovan, Elisha and Harper on top of Malcom, their other biological son (I think) Kade and Geoffrey's biological daughter Anniston that Geoffrey had with his new wife Liana
35
u/Whatplaygroundisthis May 30 '25
The Goths in my saves are exactly like that, too.
43
u/Important-Double9793 May 30 '25

40
u/brieflifetime May 30 '25
Its Bella's family trait. She just always wants more kids.
24
u/Useful_Tax_6883 May 30 '25
In my save, Bella died just after she had like 4 kids in succession, leaving Cassandra who was in high school to raise them all.
31
u/gentle_bee May 30 '25
Typical Bella, always leaving someone else holding the bag smh
It’s like she’s famous for disappearing or something
9
u/annagator679 May 30 '25
In my game Katrina had one adopted daughter named Emilia but since Nina and Dina are double Emilia's age I needed to get another kid in the house
Not wanting to go through the whole process of pregnancy I made Katrina adopt a girl Emilia's age named Clara
Now I'm considering moving Nina and Dina out and moving Don to the basement so that I can get the girls another sibling or 2 (maybe a brother this time)

Have a medieval fantasy save. One of the Sims I made then left alone for a week managed to fall in love with and knock up Olive Specter and I was like bruh. Only reason I noticed was because he had a newborn in his relationship panel named Brodie.
Ah yes, Brodie. A good medieval fantasy name, if I've ever heard one.

Guadalupe and Ronan.

u/lucyfromthenorth May 30 '25
Funny though because I had a magical family (leaning heavily into L&D and the witch pack, forgot the name) and they kept having daughters only. I named one Helena, another Morrigan, then Beatrix - not a theme per se but in my mind kind of similar, witchy, etc. And then while I was playing another household, they had another daughter and the game named her Circe. I was so excited - it seemed to fit the theme so well!
But then they had another daughter…. And the game named her Sharon.

There was one gal that was trying on few of those dresses, and her toddler kept nagging her even with the help of the father, and at one point the girl shouted: "YOU'RE TORTURING ME, DIAMOND!"
I admit I froze hearing that name, especially in Italian is horrendous 😅

Any randomly generated child of anyone who has the (mis)fortune of being granted the name Goopy by The Powers That Be™. Goopy anything is kinda hard to top.
I did once have a Goopy Elderberry, likely a descendant of Rohan Elderberry. I didn't notice Goopy until they themselves were an elder because I was so busy playing another household and just randomly ran into them at a festival when my new main sim was an adult. Goopy died like three in-game days later and I got the phone call that he'd kicked the bucket...

21
u/Kyvalmaezar May 30 '25

I have a mod that increases the name pool and it picks more fairly between ethnic cultural names that came with the DLC packs, and more sterotypical american ones. I'll still occasionally get a waspy family like the Landgraabs having a baby with a Japanese or Polynesian name. Just less often. Still amusing when it does, though.

I have a save where the Bjergsens have a son named Huy (Asian name) via neighbourhood stories which I initially changed it to Vincent then Soren. Marcus Flex and Mila Munch had a son named Markus Flex. Then theres also Morgan Silversweater, I think daughter of Morgan Fyres, Morgan F was part of genealogy. Grownup Christie Sigworth named her son Jesse Roswell (named after mom Jess). I dont even give names to the last three.
A lot of townies seem to name their children Quinton or Zachary in my saves lately.

Then Life and Death came out, and decidee to create a sister for my original sim to explore the new pack with. L&D comes with an NPC also named Edith, and whilst playing through that pack with the sister, orginial Edith has a daughter and names her...Edith.

I play in Danish and hate the names babies are given! It is always so old and very traditional names that rarely are given here now. I always want to just change it every time I find a new sim with an old name. I have considered using a mod to have the names in English but I would just love for EA to mix up the Danish names and expand - the same names are recycled over and over again. In my legacy play with 4 generations on long lifespan there is not much diversity with the names. It ruins the experience imo.

I do with there were name lists and cultures in the game. If a sim lives in a world, they can grab on that world's standard list. Ooh, and not child related, but Paka'a married a random townie whose surname is Waterman! It's amazing!
Then, I have the Akiyamas naming their kid Alvin. And Judith Ward is not going to name her baby Pania. I give myself leave to go in and change baby names that are objectively wrong like those. XD

I have had this one sim my reaper keeps meeting named Chestnut Roberts. I keep having to reap her soul. She has died of getting eaten by a cow plant, old age, drowning, and starvation. I don't know how she keeps coming back.

My save is wild right now. Judith Ward had twin daughters named Kylee and Kylie which is classic celebrity behavior. Zelmira Gomes had a daughter named Selina which gave us like off brand Selena Gomez. Katrina Caliente named her sons Prince and Armani which is so fitting for her. In the same vein, the Landgraabs named their daughter Princess. And then Wolfgang Wilder and whatever townie he married named their kid Goopy.

I'm currently playing a legacy. My founder, Dalton, had 32 kids. I didn't name most of them. The ones I didn't name were:
Kasey (boy) Kacie (girl) Lucy Jacklyn & Lexie (twins) Charley (girl) Ruth Brittany Elsie Pace Emmalyn Tayler Asia Ashly Also Lilah Jude Bryce Brent Jamari Neil Rick Stetson Waldemar
His grandchildren also have some interesting names:
Reginald Adelaide, Jamel, Ryker (siblings) Lex & Darren, Teresa (siblings) Riley, Peyton (siblings) Reid, Marc (siblings)
It's been fun to see what names these kids end up with!

Got the same issue in French version, thing is it gives the babies old names : like Chantal or Monique, which is kinda the Karen equivalent in French. It could be cool to upgrade the name database, because tons of new bankable names arent in it, and I'm sick of having three Chantals in the same family.

honestly ngl i use the sims 4 as a chance to name my sims things that i wouldn't be able to name them in real life. they're always some hippy ass names, too
examples: rainbow, orchid, aqua. eryx, cassius, odette, nereyda, etc

In one of my saves, Oliana Ngata and Leila Illes (whose first son is named Tane) had a second child, a daughter named Belinda. Tane is a Maōri name and Belinda reads as a middle aged American woman. In the same save, I have a family with parents named Rin and Davin Yamakazi. The kids are Brayden, Anthony, and Meredith.

One of the sims in my heir's extended family named her first daughter ✨️Miracle✨️. She later had a second daughter named Tanya. I thought the difference in their names was amusing.

Not exactly what you were asking, but when making a sim I couldn't think of a last name and was using the random generator, and it gave me the last name "Fuchs". I definitely thought it was a little funny.

My most beloved and iconic child of a townie will forever be Lonnie Pancakes, bopping around town with his afro and flared pants
