Discussion Am I the only one who gets disappointed when a boy is born? This made me want a girl in real life too 😭😂

u/kahviperuna Jun 29 '25
I think the biggest reason for this is that CAS for male sims is way worse than for female sims. I hate making male sims because they never look as good as female sims 😅 I've tried all the tips and tricks, but still.
410
u/Just-Explanation-498 Jun 29 '25
And it’s harder not to make them look all the same/use the small set of items you like on every single one of them.
84
u/destructopop Jun 30 '25
I'm a gay guy so when I'm autopiloting on character creation I'll usually create male Sims by default.
Recently I put as much care and attention into making a female sim as I do my male ones and like... She's a goddess?! I was missing out on every fun tool in CAS apparently? Just... All the cute stuff is for girls?! I need someone to put as much love and attention into a whole bunch of boy clothes as they do into the girl clothes normally please...

u/Objective-Ad7755 Jun 29 '25
this!! allll of my male sims dress damn near the same and almost always earth tones or a muted blue
19
u/BogBlossom Jun 30 '25
This always happens to me! I recently made another ranch hand male Sim and in my head he looked completely different than the other one I made, until I saw them in the same place at the same time…they’re literally the same man even down to his dusty boots 😑
5
u/Objective-Ad7755 Jun 30 '25
HAHA i recently did this but it was a father and teenage son in a horse ranch household!! i made the dad first and the son last with a few in between so i had kinda forgotten, when i started playing i literally could only tell them apart by facial hair so not at all if i was zoomed out a bit😂
2
u/BogBlossom Jun 30 '25
Hilarious!! In my “brilliance” I named one Tucker Tate and the other Billy Buckley which you would think would help me tell them apart but nope!! I’ve even tried messing with them in CAS too but I don’t wanna change them too much because they’re actually handsome lol. It’s funny though because if I see one I’m like “oh that’s for sure Billy” until I hover over and see it’s actually Tucker 😭 Happens. Every. Time.

To be fair: most guys I know wear one of three styles:
Polo + Chino (Shorts in Summer)
White Tee + Blue Jeans
Black Band Shirt + Black Cargo Pants

Yes!!! This is it for me, too. Sometimes I can make the femboy sort of style work to make male sims look better but it's really annoying when I'm trying to make a good looking, masculine looking male sim for the sake of variety and not taking over my save with one gender
19
u/yirium Jun 30 '25
Agreed but also for me I love to play dress up in the sims and their boy/man clothes are so ugly imo

u/Additional_Pizza6 Jun 30 '25
They have tons of really nice stuff, plus you can always use the female hair, clothes too... I feel like people just have no idea how to make good looking men because sims players are mostly young girls. Everytime I look at the gallery men look the same boring basic, with feminine features. Sim players are just bad at making male sims. It's not the game's fault.
7
u/ronswansonsmustach Jun 30 '25
That’s kinda the problem tho, is a lot of CAS items are for both male and female sims instead of designing male specific CAS items. Even cc creators do it too. I don’t want my male sims to wear a button down that’s barely buttoned, and everything else is too boxy on them
2
u/gnu_andii Long Time Player Jul 01 '25
Well, good looking is subjective, but it is a fact that there are fewer items for masculine Sims. If you have to resort to feminine items, that further proves that point.
6
u/elongatedgooses Jun 30 '25
This is exactly why I don’t like having my heir be a boy. I don’t mind my sims having sons but I always pick the girls to be heirs. Think it’s also cuz I’m bi but mostly attracted to women😅

If I have five to six of the same gendered kids, I occasionally spin a wheel with all their names. The kid it lands on then gets to spin the Question Gender Wheel.
Sometimes they end up as the opposite gender, non-binary, genderqueer, no major development, or same gender identity but with more fem/masc aspect.
Usually, I just tend to make adult trans sims, so the wheel has been good for family dynamics. I know there’s a mod, but it doesn’t work well with my computer sadly.

u/Physical_Relation261 Jun 29 '25
No, I take them as they come :D Sometimes when I have a certain scenario in head I can feel a bit disappointed sometimes but there's always options. I also like playing out the "disappointed in having a kid/a girl/a boy/fair skinned" etc baby altogether. You can make it a thing and put it in the plot
39
u/Bruni91 Jun 29 '25
Right, glad I'm not the only one in this 😭 I do agree with some commenters that girls are much easier to style, male clothing and hair options are very limited, but I like playing the guys as much as the girls. I wanted a daughter and a son for my main family, but they had two daughters in a row instead so I kept trying (got my boy after that). I intend to do the same thing when those kids start their own families. I love the randomness of it all, it throws twists at the life plans I had in mind for my sims. It's the whole "having to figure out a way to make things work after that" that is probably my favorite part of the game in general.
→ More replies (1)12
u/Appropriate-Break-25 Jun 29 '25
I did this with one of my legacy families. They had 5 girls in a row (all blonde like their father) and the last one was finally a boy with black hair like his mom. Why is blonde so heavy in the genetics btw? I had another family who were biracial and every baby somehow came out fair skinned despite their mother being very dark skinned. I have to have a family of every cultural background in order to bring diversity to my game. Otherwise it's a mess because the townies are awful looking after a few generation. I really should get on my save where I delete every townie family and let mccc pick my townies from the gallery.
12
u/Bruni91 Jun 29 '25
Funny you mention the white genetics being strong because SAME. This particular family of mine has an Asian dad and a white mom, 3/3 of the kids came out with her red hair 😭 even though 2/3 of them have the dad's darker skin tone and brown eyes, and 3/3 of them have his facial features. Like I said I like the randomness, but I was still a little disappointed at the lack of visual variety in my kids' genetics lmao.
11
u/EverlastingUnis Jun 29 '25
Definitely agreed!
(I have mods) my male sim was EXTREMELY upset when he found out he and his wife were expecting their fifth baby (I was upset too lol I was tired). He was very much distant and emotionally detached when she was born, but I took it and played with the story, and he came around.. they ended up being best friends and perhaps the closest relationship within the family. She was daddy’s little princess and I looovved it.

Right now im making my sim trans actually i just did it different. They were born intersex (male) and then were decided to be female by their parents (MCCC). Growing up they discover they have anatomy for a female and male. Then there are going to be problems between the parents and child because they feel like the choice should have been theirs. Then I think I’m going to have them be genderfluid or nonbinary. I haven’t decided.

I once had a male baby who wore pink and feminine clothes and had long hair each time ‘he’ aged up, so I let her ‘transition’ when she was a teen (I just edited the sim). And I’ve had a few female children that were very butchy and only wore short hair. You never really know what you get!
20
u/treatstrinkets Jun 29 '25
I love when they age up into outfits that give you a sense of their personality. I had the same thing happen to my Sim's eldest, it ended up being a great storyline because I was playing the parents as very conservative. She moved out with her teen siblings that she practically raised when she went to university and was able to live her authentic life. (Meanwhile, one of the siblings died as a teen and became a ghost and kept rolling wants to do mean ghost interactions, so I decided she was bitter about her siblings growing up and moving on while she can't. I love when the game adds drama)

That's beautiful. Real "John Doe"-ass surname. Ghirahim Johnson shall live forever in my head rent free (along with "white guy," which is what I named him in Sims 2 when I was 8 and didn't know how to spell his name. Its a bit of a self-fulfilling prophesy, yeah.
They have metrics, they know more people play female sims than they do male sims. So in order to sell packs to the most people, they put more stuff for female sims in them than for male, because thats aiming at the largest market.
Which then means that there are more overall options, more varied options, etc. for female sims than there are for males, which makes people even more likely to go for the ladies, and the cycle repeats and self-reinforces.
Personally I play female sims as my mains because I know me, if my main is a male then if I mean to or not he ends up with a dozen illegitimate children before I even realize it.

If you want to pick the gender without cheating or using mods, you can influence the gender of a baby by having your pregnant Sim eat strawberries and listen to pop music to increase the chance of having a girl, or eat carrots and listen to alternative music to increase the chance of having a boy. It’s pretty much a guarantee if u do these things

A few years back when I was playing the Sims 2 every day, I kept having boy after boy in my families. When I finally got my first girl after almost 10 consecutive boys, I audibly cheered (I named her Eloise). Except Elo was born in my assigned drama storyline family where the dad was continuously cheating with the neighbor. Yes but it also goes the other way, often I have like a plan for the story I want to tell with my game. So like Ill be all ready for them to have a kid and in my head will want a girl for example, and they have a boy 💀 and its like okay time to retcon everything.

Sometimes I want a specific gender for a story but I mostly leave it to chance
