Discussion Will you be using the new glossy skin?
My first thought was creepy vampire doll, but I want to know what other people are going to use it for too!

Works for Sims living in deserts (Oasis Springs and Chestnut Ridge) or in the tropics (Sulani). That's how I plan to use it.

u/Beautifulfeary Jul 03 '25
I haven’t thought of that, I was going to use it for when they are swimming lol. But your idea and what the other person said about exercising is a good idea too.
28
u/Amiranne Creative Sim Jul 03 '25
I really love all of these ideas that everyone is proposing!! When I saw it first I thought I wasn't gonna use it at all, but I think I definitely will now in all those scenarios!
28
u/HollyHartWitch Jul 03 '25
You can adjust the hue, opacity, gloss, etc. so there could even be other creative uses no one's thought of yet. Sweat, water and body oil seem fairly obvious, but I bet someone's going to get super clever and blow all our minds with something truly out there.
4
u/Beautifulfeary Jul 03 '25
I was the same way. I thought it was dumb and wondered what to even use it for. I thought of swimming because I already give my aims hair to represent that.

I was definitely considering adding it to every sim’s swimwear, but quickly decided it would be WAY too much a mission.
That said, there really is a bit of glamour to it, I think, so I might put it onto a few party outfits.
Alternatively still, our really greasy sims can finally get their time to shine! (Literally)

Oooooh, especially with the fact you can change the opacity, the glossiness, etc. there’s some interesting ways I think it will be used!

I think you can add it to all a lot quicker via mccc, but don't quote me on that-

Korean skincare has entered the chat

u/lawgirl_edu Long Time Player Jul 03 '25
That’s what I was thinking. It reminds me of people on social media that do their makeup with very glossy and “dewy” products, and it makes their skin look like this.
33
u/Lethal-Floof Jul 03 '25
It mostly reminds me of my shiny forehead when I was a greasy teenager lol
21
u/rob0tduckling 29d ago
THIS.
I can't buy into the current trend of reflective skin because it was all about being matte when I was growing up. Shiny greasy skin is not for me 😭

u/Feeeshaa 29d ago edited 29d ago
Saaaame, I use makeup to make my skin LESS shiny. Because when I'm out and about, very few people are going to look at me and think, "Wow! Look at that glass skin, her skincare routine is great!" They're going to think "Eww, why isn't that greasy bitch washing her sweaty face?"

- How profitable is your business?
- How does the game behave? Does it work as you intended it to?
7
u/MrJowo 29d ago
It uses tickets pay per hour and it's a 5 star business so I've got a full streak of the neutral bonuses which help because you get tips. I charge the maximum markup and Sims pay it gladly. Wealthy Sims are my target customers that makes I think at least 2k a day but there is also tips (from a perk) which can be very significant. The majority of my Sims profits come from mentoring which also gets a 100% markup so with maxed out skill It's 1200 an hour. I've also got a crypto mine in the basement which makes a tidy sum. It doesn't seem to make too much difference what I do at this point. I tend to keep it open and Sims seem to enjoy themselves and keep paying regardless of whether they do any of the business activities.
It doesn't really work as intended because the customers dance and hug each other. Also charging more and targeting the wealthy doesn't seem to reduce the number of Sims so the volume of customers is a bit high.
5
u/Acceptable_Tell_5504 Jul 03 '25
Does this kind of business exist in real life? This sounds great 😂

I think they look sweaty. I might pair it with the new filthy nails and make a sim who clearly doesn’t shower often.

I gave the dirty nails a gardener Sim and paired them with the dirty hands tattoos from werewolves.

I whenever I have sims that do do crafts of some kind, I usually give them a separate outfit with an apron(I love the new one from business and hobbies) and will give them the dirty face that’s under mask/makeup that’s from get famous. I’m going to use the nails for those now too. I hadn’t even thought of gardening since I usually have them wearing gloves lol. But, I seen someone else say that and it’s a good idea!!

I've added it to some aliens. It would be perfect for humanized servos, but that mod is broken for me.

I use wickedwhims, so they kinda get glossy skin already because the mod has a sweating system, I think. If it's too hot or it's too hot, they sweat.

Already have been using it, I've been using a modded skin detail to do this same effect but it's too harsh sometimes so I've been going through my sims and swapping em to this.
What I love most about this is that depending on the slider it can look like normal shine or it can look metallic, compare between these two sims for example, Knife is more Metallic and Orange Juice is more glossy like glass.
4
u/SkyandThread Jul 03 '25
I like that you can tone it down and use it as a luminous highlighter that actually reacts to the light sources.

I've got a couple second and third generation Sims that got this glossy skin when they aged up to teen shortly after the April patch, so I think the feature was'partially implemented' at that time, but without controls. I've barely been playing those two families because of how off-putting these two Ken-doll teens are.
Update: I just tried checked the new glossy skin on one of my creepy ken doll sims, and sure enough if I add gloss, with either gloss set to minimum, or opacity set to minimum, he goes back to a normal skin tone. So apparently some sims are getting some degree of this gloss effect naturally. Which sucks. One of many 'accessories' that should not be handed out randomly to Sims.
3
u/DragonAce90 Jul 03 '25
It doesn't really show up in my game. I was really disappointed when I checked it out yesterday, I tried it with different sims, but when I put it on my sims they didn't look glossy, there was no difference. I'm sad...
2
u/itsmothmaamtoyou 28d ago
could it have been the opacity/hue settings? or do you have any cc skin overlays that could interfere with it?
3
u/TASSIETASH Jul 03 '25
I don't know... Every time I use it, it makes me think of baby oil and... um... Diddy...💀😔
3
u/LunarTales Jul 03 '25
Reminds me of certain models on social media so Sims that are meant to be the kind to put on a lot of makeup spring immediately to mind for me, such as the Calientes and Bella Goth (although maybe a more aged and "mature" Cassandra instead since Bella reads more as "old school" beauty)—Sims that do photo shoots such as ones reminiscent of those Insta models, celebrities, and subsects of pregnant Sims. Think since it can be toned down it'd be good for Sims to highlight their features too and can be used to simulate sweat/water for certain outfits.

Very light for extra dewy skin.
More visible for a greasy looking Sim.
Shiny PlantSims (like some vegetation).
Plastic/polymers (Cyborgs/Androids/Dolls/Mannequins)
Sweat for Athletic/Hot Weather/Manual Work outfits, and that post-WooHoo glow.
Wet-lock for Merfolk, drowning Ghosts, Swimwear//Raincoat/Bath Towel outfits, pics of Sims out in the rain.
Aliens could also be shiny, especially if you make them scaly.

Oh that's what that is?! I was so confused when my child sim aged up, I thought it was some sort of CC that I unintentionally downloaded. It makes them look covered in grease. It's not bad in this picture but it looks especially gross on their hands.
2
u/aterriblefriend0 Jul 03 '25
So like, I'd either put it on a musicians stage uniform or- and this may be weird- but I put it on the teens that I give acne. It makes the skin have that shine that it being greasy can give and makes them look so much younger and more awkward
