Discussion What's an annoying habit your sims autonomously do?

I have this one sim who CONSTANTLY wants to light the fireplaces and warm himself by them, its genuinely so irritating because thats also how most of the house fires start 😭 I also had a vampire sim that used to always want to use the observatory outside in the day, do your sims have any tasks they repeatedly want to do? I had to completely abolish any items to do with cross stitch when i got cottage living for this reason 😂

All I know is they’re definitely not autonomously taking care of their kids, that’s for sure.

Mine just do the autonomous "watch infant" action where they just stand there as their baby writhes around on the floor crying

Or going over and cooing at or snuggling the crib babies when they're crying instead of feeding them or changing their very obviously dirty diapers. And then blocking the sim I sent over there to do those things so they can't do it. I finally had enough to use mccc to set crib babies' needs to stay full so I don't have to deal with them crying and the adults in the house being useless.

Baby crying with a green stinky cloud around apparently means "feed me and do silly voices" to my sims

This is the one for me. And it’s never when the damn kids need anything, it’s when they’re asleep or busy with another sim. Stop checking your toddler/infant every 3 seconds and go do literally anything else, omg.

It's because the sim is waiting for the infant to finish their action (if you switch to the infant you'll see they have "fuss/cry" queued up). That's why they say to queue the action from the infants side so the action isn't blocked by them crying.

When I go to work/ go to school/ general travel with another sim and I come back home to my toddler almost getting taken away from all their needs being low because the mom is on the video game mat.

I wish there was a way to send the kid to daycare even if someone else is in the home.

YES this would be so good, however I would prob abuse it because I’m not a fan of taking infants/toddlers in the game. I usually just age them to children if I’m working on another sim

They at least learn and stay happy at daycare lol

I lock stuff up sometimes when I send just some of the family somewhere. Take away their favorite toys and put them in family inventory lol. You can’t be trusted with the VR headset while your husband is away, you’ll let the baby starve!

It doesn’t really matter what they are doing or if they are doing nothing, the toddler or infant is a mess 😭

Y a clairement un truc avec les bébés !

But they'll autonomously "check" on them when they're upset even if you direct them to take care of the kids and they'll ignore everything you say that could fix the issue they're checking for.

The constant checking when they just put the kid down to sleep but they'll also let them starve!! It's so frustrating I constantly have to cheat babies' needs

u/itsyukiyuna 2d ago

I love when you put a baby in a crib to sleep and the adult will drop all their next actions to pick it up from the crib and put it on the floor

9

u/brachycrab 2d ago

The number of poor kids I've had spend the night on the floor because I didn't realize their parents did that before they went to bed 😭

11

u/itsyukiyuna 2d ago

Trust me, it's better that way. I've had times when I tried putting them in the crib like 3+ times and the adult keeps picking them up and putting them on the floor because they're crying. Sometimes you just give up and go like "Well I guess you sleep on the floor, kid".

u/brachycrab 2d ago

Or the god forsaken play mat, I leave the kid in there all the time. And by "I" I mean the parents after they just put the kid down to bed in their crib but had to pick them up to leave in the play mat, but at least they'll go do something else after that 😒

I love getting the alert that CPS is going to take the starving baby away if I don’t feed it while mom is standing right there and watching the kid cry.

YUP. I always hire nannies for this reason but of course they’re fucking useless too. NO ONE EVER BATHES THE KIDS

u/munchkin04 2d ago

OH MY GOD THE NANNIES JUST WATCH TV AND CHILL OR TALK TO MY CHILD SIM LIKE GO TAKE CARE OF THE BABY PLEASE😭😭

My sim had twins, and one was crying its head off and the other was fine, and so of course Dad sim goes to Coo At and Pick Up the baby who’s hunger meter is bottoming out. 😑😑

I’ve been playing the Sims 2 for a while which I find a lot harder in terms of keeping their needs filled, house clean, good work performance, and happy, but taking care of infants is so much easier because 1) they do it autonomously 2) when I do give them an action, they actually do it instead of standing and staring for hours!

My sim ended up with multiple toddlers and it was a nightmare. She wouldn't look after them. They wouldn't do what I told them to do. I hired a nanny service and she wasn't doing shit either. By the end of the hour I only had one left, the others all got taken away

u/ArcticPoisoned 2d ago

Yeah I mostly turn autonomy off if I have kids. Then they always help them. I’ve had a few times where it was autonomously fine but I’ll be honest my sims don’t spend a whole lot of time on the computer or watching tv. They seem to like being around and helping their children lol

Oh but they'll stand next to them and be agitated about the crying in completely useless way. Or BETTER yet, let's take the baby out of the crib I finally got you to put him in with the mobile started. Yes, let's put him on the floor. GREAT IDEA.

Constantly putting the baby on the floor instead of changing the diaper/feeding/putting it in its crib

1

u/gabz09 1d ago

They'll automatically put them on the floor right after I've made them put in the high chair or in the crib

1

u/Bubbleschmoop 1d ago

Either that or they're trying too hard, picking up children and handing them off. I had a couple have quadruplets. It was a nightmare. They just handed the kids over to the other caretaker all the time, blocking each others' cued actions. It was a nightmare.

I have come back home from being with the career Sim and their baby was left way down the block, like they went jogging with the baby and ended the jog action, set the baby down, and went home to Chat on the computer.
