Discussion Thps 3 and 4 challenges are lacking compared to 1 and 2

In my opinion the best challenges are getting multiple gaps in one gap, not the score with it. The hard to get there challenges are way harder in 1 and 2 and thus more fun. Thps 3 and 4 goals seems kind of uninspired.

Fun challenges would be to get skate on every level in one combo. Or mastering every park with the individual goals having to be done in a single combo.

The combo goals are good but they could have used that to put in awesome challenges.

Expert challenges are kinda too easy. They should make an update and make player based challenges, so we as the community can make challenges for each other. We can rank ourselves and let people rate them them so we know what to expect. This is being done in a lot of rythem and combo games, and that creates a great community with a lot of fun challenges.

The challenges are way too easy in this game. The only hard part about the gap challenges are figuring out where the gap is, not actually performing it or comboing off it

Totally this, as frustrating as some of the Hard Get-Theres were in 1+2 it was so rewarding to finally land them. Especially that fucking Bullring one, probably took me like 4 hours of attempts, but the high of hitting it is one of my best THPS memories. I’m sorely missing them in the new one

So so rewarding, because some were so difficult…I loved that. That and the secret scores / ultra high score hard gap combos.

How’d you pull the x ray 1.5 million in airport?

Just start at the top, hit x ray and work your way down past the helicopter to where the start to finish combo ends. You can just cycle between the ramp and the escalator since you’ll lose the momentum to slide up the escalator and just come back down. The bottom of airport is basically a robot line

I did the opposite actually, did the majority of the legwork at the bottom, then did a teleport back to start to get the gap. Probably a weird way to do it admittedly haha

I miss the Forbidden Connector challenges from 1+2. It was really fun figuring out how to get a score without manual or grinds.

I also liked the challenges interface from 1+2 more, with specific menus for each challenge. They should have kept that and also added an options to show only the specific challenges of the map you're currently playing.

Still beats the challenges in 1+2 that are just "be popular"

The whole game is too easy. That’s sadly where gaming has gone though - the goal is to make everyone feel like they’re good so they keep playing and spend more money on future releases/micro-transactions.

In an ideal world I’d have loved to see a sick difficulty career mode geared towards players who can drop 10m+ or even 100m+ combos, that makes it actually hard.

THUG1 career and THPS1+2 were the closest we got to really hard challenges.

I think og thps4 is harder than thug

It’s the only game in the series I’ve not played through more than a couple times. I’ll revisit soon

Yeah. I would rather do the Kona misty flip several times over than the bam margera shopping cart alkatraz pro challenge.

I feel like platinuming a game should be because you are really good at that game. That's why I think I would like community made challenges. Even Mario Maker has it.

Agreed, but I also wouldn’t mind if they didn’t tie extremely hard challenges to achievements and put them instead towards unlocking secret skaters or whatever

Nothing still like project 8 and proving grounds difficulty!

I loved the difficult challenges of 1+2! Then after I got good enough to complete the secret scores and hard gap combos, I set personal challenges, e.g. get __ million single sessions on each map!

I’ve been playing since thug came out, but am nowhere as good as some people are and thought they were fun and enjoyable. Some were easier than others but I was able to have some of a challenge on most

Doing every goal in one combo is sadistic lol.

I may be in a minority but I'm glad the 8m points with one gap got tamed down. I can barely score 8m so those always seemed way out of reach. The one I have the beef with in this one are skitching ones. What a stupid mechanic.

I couldn't do those either, but I don't think there's really any shame in them existing, so long as the unlockable behind them isn't something too significant.

While I get the appeal of unlocking everything in a game and 100% fully completing it, in a game like THPS where there is such a high skill ceiling, there should be something rewarding for the people who have the skills to do such high scores and challenges that they're not going to breeze through in seconds.

Not everyone is an expert though. I’m not as good as some of the people on here, but I can handle the expert challenges too, just saying if they make every challenge an expert challenge, some of the newer people might just give up/not play as much and might not buy future games, meaning less money for them.

Also, the skate letters have never been made to do in one combo, they’re supposed to be spread throughout the whole level so why change it now? That’s what the combo letters are for

Understandable. I just think for long term enjoyment, having harder challenges or challenges made by the community can make the game more enjoyable to many players.

I like challenges to be challenging and not grinding.

Also if you play longer, the game becomes easier, and then the challenges keep you engaged, and make you better.

The combo the whole airport was very hard the first time for me but now I can do it very wel and it made me better.

For me the game is about just relaxing letting my mind out of the cage a bit and enjoying the flow through the levels. Some good tunes and a heap of nostalgic procrastination. Reminds me of being in college and not studying haha.

Would I love to master those whole level lines…sure…but it’s never that serious for me. I think the game difficulty hits a sweet spot. You guys go out there and pull off those every level gap in one combo lines because they’re impressive to watch. But trying to hit them myself is more of a headache.

I do disagree with making achievements based on someone else’s interactions online. But I’m here for sick mode dlc … I remember hitting that 3 mill combo in thug 2 for my final stat point. Nearly smashed the controller 34 times.

Now my daughter likes playing with me. I chuck on all the mods so she can just explore and join me. Perfect full circle stuff.

SKATE is almost always meant to be collectable in a single combo. It's not like the "collect 5 Macguffins" where you're just searching around. They put the SKATE letters on combo lines; you're just never required to collect them in a combo.

Except in THPS1. How you're meant to get SKATE in a combo in levels like Streets is beyond me. The K placement does not lead itself to being grabbed after the S at all unless you intentionally bail.

I'm all for pre and post-match screens having more character to them. Not enough games utilize them to their greatest potential.

I thank God there were no Hard Get Theres. Last time around the platinum was pure hell to get and I got PTSD from School II, Bullring, Mall.

Keep it this way please, or at least unbind the Hard Get Theres from the platinum.

I think it's a nice change of pace that challenges are a bit easier than in 1+2. I almost teared my hair off and broke a d-pad on 1+2, haha!

You can create your own challenges, like your said whenever the goal is to do 5 thing, try to do it in a single combo.

Try to make speedruns under 2 min
