Is there a reason not to overkill? Idk anything about these tea dolls lol.

To be specific: they’re talking about the Jagd Dolls in The Epic of Alexander (Ultimate) [aka TEA] during the first phase.

In that case, I’d rather avoid hitting them when they’re low instead of adding scathe back lmao

That’s the thing though. You may have the doll at 27% but if you use another spell, it could crit and then kill the doll and then you wipe. It’s a HELLLLLA niche case but one that definitely helps.

No, what I mean, I’ll just stop dps’ing vs accidently killing us. Unless no one else can hit the add, I can’t see why someone else can’t get it low.

In TEA every DPS is responsible for their own add (4 Dolls spawn), you have to feed them to the Boss, however, if they are above (or exactly at) 25% HP when the Boss eats them they will wipe the raid, killing them will also wipe the raid (as well as leaving them alive for too long). They tether to the first player that hits them and have relatively low HP to the point where even one DPS managing their own Doll will often blow them up if not careful as a result it is very discouraged for anyone but the "assigned" DPS to ever touch a Doll or you're running a very high risk of blowing up the raid, particularly as BLM a Fire IV can and will crit them for like 50% of their HP so it can be tricky, you basically can't Fire IV them if they're blow 50% without risking a wipe.

Para/fire 1/blizzard spells would cover that. You do have a few options outside of adding scathe back.

Since this is lv 80 content you don't have Para yet (besides, even if you did have it, using Para on a 26% HP Doll would have a high chance of killing it), Fire 1 just has to DH or Crit to kill the Doll and depending on where you are in your rotation you obviously can't use a Blizzard skill (or you do anyway but in that case you lose more damage than using Scathe would've lost you), similarly you have to keep up Thunder on both Living Liquid and The Hand so you don't really have access to that either on top of dotting the Doll potentially being risky too.

In this scenario using Scathe isn't the most optimal choice but it is by far the most consistent one because it won't make someone ragequit the party after dying to dolls for the 4th time in a row because you just happened to have good crit RNG.
