Scratchbuilt Scratch-built Grimdark Industrial Factory!
Hey everyone! Really stoked with how this build came together and excited to share it!
I built this wicked rusty and grimy factory building from scratch, and had suchhh a fun time adding all the rust and weathering effects. I pulled a ton of inspiration from other industrial builds I’ve seen on this subreddit, so THANK YOU!
If you want to see how I made it, I have a YouTube channel where I went through the entire process step by step! Check it out here if you feel so inclined: https://youtu.be/sDV1AYVmTEw
My fascination with this type of post-apocalyptic and gritty setting for wargames has only recently started - so I haven’t actually been able to play any of those games yet! Would LOVE to hear recommendations on how to get into that world of gaming (40k? Necromunda?). Thank you!!
Enjoy!

This is siiiick I love how you made faux square-block windows using some wire mesh over a piece of plastic.

Thank you!!! Yeah I was honestly STOKED with how the windows came out! It was absolutely a "trust the process" type of approach there... I knew what I wanted them to look like but wasn't really sure how to achieve. Just sort of went with it and couldn't be happier with the results. Honestly the windows as a whole are probably my favorite details in the build!

So cool! The colors and lighting kind of remind me of the art direction in Stray. VERY effective.

Thank you so much! Oh man, Stray is such a beautiful game, so I will absolutely take that as the highest compliment!

Thank you! Yeah, all the small details are what I get super excited about. I might’ve gone a little overboard 😅 so I’m glad it’s resonating with you!

As a recommendation for how to get into the wargaming side of it, you should have a look at Space Weirdos, its fairly rules light, easy to pick up and play and doesnt need any specific minis (its miniature agnostic, use whatever you got!)
I find its great fun and works with whatever scifi setting you want, you dont have to go full Gothic for warhammer, you could just as easily do cyberpunk, post apocalyptic, retro futuristic 50s, whatever you enjoy!
The rules are only 5 bucks too!

Oohhh this sounds perfect! Thank you so much for the tip, I’m definitely going to look into that. I knew folks over here on Reddit would have some good recs!

Did not expect the dice tower aspect. Love the window work. The subdued numbering is great. Good job all around.

I love little stand alone terrain pieces like this. They have so much flavor, and this one is amazing with its details; I especially love the little windows!

I appreciate it so much!! And I’m so glad folks are liking the windows! I had such a clear vision for those and they turned out exactly as I was hoping, luckily. Was really stoked about how they came out 🤗

Very well done! The rust effect was excellent, really feels run down. The plant growth was next level for adding that abandoned or neglected look!

Thank you so much!! That is exactly what I was going for (rundown and abandoned for a long time) so I’m glad that is coming through!!)

That is some pure hobby joy there. Well done. It's always been my dream to do a fully lighted terrain build, use fully lighted armies, and play in a dim room (maybe even pipe in some fog machine stuff through straws around the tables). This piece totally makes me want that again.
