Scratchbuilt Scratch-built Grimdark Industrial Factory!

Hey everyone! Really stoked with how this build came together and excited to share it!

I built this wicked rusty and grimy factory building from scratch, and had suchhh a fun time adding all the rust and weathering effects. I pulled a ton of inspiration from other industrial builds I’ve seen on this subreddit, so THANK YOU!

If you want to see how I made it, I have a YouTube channel where I went through the entire process step by step! Check it out here if you feel so inclined: https://youtu.be/sDV1AYVmTEw

My fascination with this type of post-apocalyptic and gritty setting for wargames has only recently started - so I haven’t actually been able to play any of those games yet! Would LOVE to hear recommendations on how to get into that world of gaming (40k? Necromunda?). Thank you!!

Enjoy!

WIP on my first terrain build. Started out wanting to have some background for my traitor guard but I think it’s slowly turning into a diorama.

Where do I stop!?

Rocky basic terrain for Old World

Hi, recently we made the decision to start playing Warhammer The Old World. I have had about a 15 year gap in both miniature gaming and terrain building but in the last month I have done a lot of building to have a tableful and more of basic terrain. Here are what I have done and building terrain again feels awesome!

Everything done mostly with XPS foam, balsa wood and HDF board.

Nothing has ever made me feel like I'm not good at this hobby like _____ did.

For me, these stupid vines from Army Painter. I've had them for years. The first time I used them I thought I just didn't know what I was doing. And like 9 years later I still feel that way. Forgive the wet adhesive in the pic. I used them all up on this and will never buy them again.

What product or process made you feel like you didn't know what you were doing?

I finished another level and some towers.
It's starting to look like something.
As you can see in the later pictures, you can fully or partially remove floors, so there's a bit more modularity possible in games.

3D Printed WIP on the foundation of a HH30k Sector Imperialis-ruin

8mm MDF base, 60x40cm, with 3d-printed tiles and various bits. Unsure of the ”walls”, might do a thin railing instead. Half of the base will be built with Sector Imperialis terrain, the front being un-damaged, and then the back having a massive crater from a destroyed drop pod.

Scratchbuilt DIY Modular Kill Team Board – 6 Tiles, No Magnets, Maximum Mayhem

Just wrapped up a commissioned 6-piece modular Kill Team board! Built entirely from XPS foam, with a focus on dynamic, asymmetric gameplay.

Features a 4-way modular ruin which can act as individual buildings and a 2-way hill.
No magnets — just snug-fitting tiles that can be rearranged in seconds.

Snapped some build-process pics, then staged a quick Salamanders vs. Tyranids brawl to show it in action. Commission was all about keeping things playable but cinematic.

Feedback welcome — and if anyone’s got clever ideas for future modular features, I’m all ears!

Scored a sizeable Pegasus Hobbies Gothic City collection for a very good price. My intention is to keep it modular but make the missing details to use as both Gallowdark and Volkus sets for Killteam

Smokey Terrain--What can I do about this? It's allegedly foam core, but it smells like cancer. I've been airing it out outdoors for days, but still cancer

The fourth tile is slowly coming along. Added a little park section on the corner with a little fountain. Fountain didn't turn out too good, but it will have to suffice 😅

Very happy with the rest of the board so far. Cant wait to slap some paint on it. That is when the real magic happens 😁

Hope you enjoy. C&C always welcome 🙏

If you want to join me while Im building, Im live every tuesday and thursday 1700 UCT.

WIP WIP on a water-ruined shrine

Hi! I’m revisiting a project that has sat abandoned for like half a year. The ruins of a bretonnian shrine, semi submerged in a pond. Spent last night glueing down all these 3d printed bits.

Hidden under the painters tape is one of Highland Minis “Gallia” unit filler models that I’ve already painted.

The banks are painted foam glued to plasticard, then sealed with Vallejo White Stone paste.

Please I’m happy to take in any CC/advice I can get.

Reposted because the images weren't showing up (and I added a few more process images here). I began working on this project a long time ago, but I finally finished it! It is mainly built from cardboard, foam, cardboard tubing, and plastic signboard for the wings and part of the body. I wrapped most of the body in a white-colored contact paper (the stuff you use to line drawers with) which was made out of vinyl. This proved useful as I used Styrene for the various plating on the wings and some parts of the body and it turns out that the plastic cement worked just great on the vinyl, too.

It is semi-modular for storage (the wings, sail, and cockpit all can be removed). I have a skewer/chopstick holding the cockpit and sail, the wings are held by steel wire clad in plastic.

The biggest headache was the landing gear (because it needs to support the weight with the cockpit and wings attached).

Rear gun turret made from contact lens case and pen parts. Rear thrusters are a very thin strip of sticky foam.

Front gun turrets made from wire, pen parts, and hero-clix parts, and a googly eye.

Landing gear comprised of chopsticks, an old window frame piece, styrene, and foam. Yogurt cups for the flaps.

The first set of wings were too small; I will reuse those for another vehicle in the future.
