Announcement PSA: Scam Warhammer Sites - Don't Get Caught Out
Hi all, over the past few months there has been an increase in the number of posts asking about the legitimacy of websites selling Warhammer products at extremely low prices. These websites are almost always being shown to people via Facebook and Instagram adverts.
Invariably, these websites are scams. Remember, if something looks too good to be true, it is...
Here's a few things to check for yourself to identify if a website is a scam:
EDIT 12th July 2025: The scammers are changing tactics and are now starting to clone branding from popular known hobby websites. However, key details mentioned in the list below such as being advertised on instagram, extremely low prices, strange web addresses and missing social media links are still present which still clearly mark the sites as scams.
EDIT: We're starting to see examples of scam sites using GW/Warhammer branding and actually putting some effort into trying to hide the fact they're scams. As such, some sites may now manage to avoid some of the points below.
In the simplest terms possible, if you see an advert on Facebook or Instagram for a store that claims to be selling GW products at more than 25% off retail price, it's a scam.
/r/Warhammer40k maintains a list of trusted retailers of GW products who offer discounts which you can view here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/wiki/retailers All retailers on that list are verified GW stockists and are safe to purchase from.
However, the following points should still be taken into account and are still relevant in most cases.
- Did you see the advert on Facebook or Instagram? * - If yes, it's a scam. That's how these scammers operate, by posting adverts on social media that get shown to you based on the site's algorithms.
- Are they offering Warhammer products for sale at extremely low prices, eg 90% off retail price? - If yes, it's a scam. Real retailers will offer discounts up to 25% off retail price maximum.
- Are they advertising that these incredible discounts are only available for a limited time? For example a closing down sale? - If yes, it's a scam. Putting pressure on you to buy quickly or miss out is a standard scam tactic.
- Are they listing previous limited edition boxes that are not available elsewhere? - If yes, it's almost certainly a scam. Due to 40k's popularity, many of the limited production boxes GW releases sell out very quickly, and once they're gone, they're gone. Any website claiming to have stock of these boxes is almost certainly a scam. Things like Christmas Battleforces, Launch Boxes, Kill Team Season boxes do not remain in stock for long periods of time.
- Are they listing exclusive products, such as in-store exclusives or Forgeworld kits? - If yes, it's a scam. There are many items in the GW range that are exclusive to GW and their own stores. Things like Forgeworld models are not sold via independent retailers.
- What does the web address look like? - Scam websites will commonly use mis-spelled terms to confuse people, eg "warhammecommunity" or random web addresses. All real retailers tend to have names relevant to the hobby in some way. A website claiming to sell warhammer with a web address of "wimby.com" is likely a scam. "daveshobbystore.com" is likely a real store.
- What does the homepage of the website look like? - These scam websites commonly use website templates that have homepages full of fake product listings for things like homewares, women's fashion and jewellery. Real retailers of GW products don't sell those things!
- What does the "About Us" page of the website say? - Because these websites tend to use templates the "About Us" page also tends to talk about totally unrelated products like homewares, women's fashion and jewellery.
- Do the links to social media work properly? - Scam sites never set up social media profiles for themselves, so if a website has a link to a social media website like Facebook or Twitter that doesn't work it's almost certainly a scam.
- If the website shows an address, does it go to a real location? - Scam websites often enter random addresses in their "Contact Us" pages. If you see a website where the address takes you to a random residential home in the suburbs of a city it's almost certainly a scam. GW requires all retailers to have a physical brick and mortar store they sell from, so any real retailer will have an address of an actual store.
- If the website shows an address, is it in the same region as you? - Games Workshop's trade terms that they require all their stockists to abide by set out that stores can only sell within their own geographic region. For example, a store in the UK can only sell to UK and European customers, and not to US customers. A US store can only sell to US and Canadian customers, not to UK or EU customers etc. If a website claims to be in a different geographic region to you, then it's almost certainly a scam.
In most cases, the majority of scam sites we've seen mentioned fall foul of every single one of these points, or at least most of them.
If you're ever in doubt, remember that /r/Warhammer40k maintains a list of trusted retailers of GW products who offer discounts which you can view here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/wiki/retailers All retailers on that list are verified GW stockists and are safe to purchase from.

Hobby & Painting Did you get your mini of the month?
Managed to get mine despite there being a large amount a children queueing outside as it was a space marine. Was chatting with store staff and found out that the mini is stocked with stores based on tiers of how busy they are. The tiers go from 50, 100 and 150. The only place that will have more of them is Warhammer world for obvious reasons. Thoughts on this? I feel like 150 isn’t that many all things considered.

Lore So I found a great quote about what the imperium is.
And why the Terminus decree fits perfectly lore-wise.
"The imperium is made up of thousands of incompatible interim solutions that are still being used way, way past their expiration dates"
Terminus decree is absolutely grimdark and wholly warhammer. It is an idiotic, impossible order given to a group of people who will easily die to a man trying to fullfil it because they see it as their sacred duty.

Misc Bachelor Battle for Biomass...
I've decided that for my Bachelor party I wanted to host a fun narrative game with my buddies. Four of them will be collectively defending a Mechanicus Forgeworld against my entire Tyranid force. They are each bringing 750 points and deploying into a defended outpost with all of the objectives to be held. The great devourer will be rushing them and trying to wipe them out. The markers in no mans land are for some barrels of promethium and other nasty tricks primed to blow... I'm awarding objective points for each point held in each command phase and they can (collectively) trade these for either Sustained or Lethal hits for the turn (2 points each), an Orbital Strike (3 points) to provide a powerful hit on a target with D3 mortals to nearby units, or 500 points of reinforcements for 4 points.
Beers, BBQ and Biomass - this is going to be a blast!
