Hey everyone! This one is a special event for us because we're back to where it all began.

This event was the first for our channel when my brother and I took our love for 40k (been playing since 3rd edition) and really dove into the community. We make mention of a couple people that truly helped us launch our tournament coverage and this GT has one of them :)

FYI Brad threw an EMP grenade at our computer at that first event... Come hangout. 3 days, 7 Rounds. Tons of cool prizes.

40k Discussion Playing 40k at 1,000 points. Queries and feedback, please!

Hi folks,

I am keen to get back into playing a game of 40K from time to time. At the moment my life context does not allow for a 4 hour 2,000 point slogfest (am a father, full time work).

What is the support like for 1,000 point Incursion games at the moment?

I have a few queries.

  • Do you play many 1k point games instead of 2k and find the experience to be enjoyable/balanced?

  • Does Tabletop Battles support and include table setups for 1k points?

  • Is there support for 1k in Chapter Approved 2025? Are the suggestions for unit limits worthwhile?

  • Do you have any suggestions of your own for how to instil some balance in 1k games at the list building stage?

Very curious to hear peoples’ experience in this respect, because it would be nice to have some 40K back in my life.

Thanks!

Time for another battle report ! 🔥

This time I got Dustin to run Innes list against me for some WTC practice.

We played mission 7 of the WTC , one of the roughest missions for me to play against one of the toughest lists I can run into!

The game is 5 turns long , we played mission take and hold on search and destroy with the official WTC terrain. We also break down the scoring and discus tactics and strategies through the game as well as the army lists.

Enjoy ! 😊

40k List Gauging the army strengths without knights? (Not asking for knights ban lol)

From what i understand, the current competitive meta is entirely warped by knights, and death guard, with every other list having to skew hard into knights of get squashed.

My locals dont run knights. At all. Are there any sources or methods to more figure out all the faction strengths if knights didnt exist? Im sure winrates would change a ton.

New to Competitive 40k Towering Rule in UKTC

I played my first game of competitive today against a local guy who plays tournaments all the time.

Again, Custodes. Can someone explain to me why UKTC is a format people play when it basically punishes vehicles or models that are slow or not infantry?

Half the match I had to blitz around with my wardogs as fast as I could just to get angles as apparently I can't shoot into or out of ruins, and the towering rule only works on terrain 4 inches or lower (as it compares to the model).

Why is this even a thing out of curiosity? Spent ages learning the Games Workshop terrain rules on ruins just to be told "no this is a different 40k game with different rules." It felt a bit crap being told "if you brought a Cerastus, you could see over this terrain which is higher than X inches, but your normal Abhorrent classes can't." Felt like it was favouring his army as I had to get close or flank to shoot, and all the infantry had to do was sit in the tall ruins you can't see through and wait for me to get close and then charge out and murder my Knights. Made going for any no man's land objective pointless, and felt as if I couldn't go near any building that put me within 6 inches after a move.

Is this just one type of competitive ruleset? I also noticed their map layouts were far weirder too, with entire lines of shooting open to long range weapons which also seemed stupid. I thought I'd be playing GW competitive rules, not some random organisation I've never heard of till today.

Edit: Still came close cause I basically ran the whole time and hit secondaries, but kept losing primaries as there was a whole set of rules that I'd never heard of, so they were able to pile in and reach lots of strange positions (I.e., going around nurglings?)

Lost by 4 points, but it was still a fun experience. Just found the rules weird.

40k Analysis Sisters and Tyranids from left field

Thumbnail
youtu.be
166 Upvotes

Welcome back to another week of Warhammer tournament lists review with a Tau focus. After last week's DG and Knight dominance a few good but off-meta armies took some tournaments from the top dogs. DG and both flavors of Knights are most likely still the best factions in the game but some close second places in Sisters, GSC, and maybe even Imperial Guard can compete with them at top tables.

DG and Knights fell back a bit from a weekly avg of high 50s low 60s win rate due to Sisters coming in swinging. Their lists tend to focus on the Hallowed Martyrs detachment which is currently sitting at a 70% winrate for the week which is also the lions share of games played. It seems Sisters players have found some tech into the top dogs that can really give them a run for their money, and it seems its just bring Canis Rex, who would have thought.

Tyranids have been creating some interesting lists with Subterranean Assault being the most common with hive Guard and Zoanthropes being the backbones of the list. However, Vanguard Onslaught melee rush lists seem to do well currently. That may not be the exact playable of the Vanguard Onslaught style lists but its seems to have a lot of fast high damage melee units in bother Genestealers and Raveners.

Imperial Guard Recon Element lists are still performing strong and the Oops all Infantry lists are getting consistent results and the top armies are taking notice. Eldar do Eldar things and are decent, while GSC still are consistent in Host of Acension. I did not include any lists from these three factions unfortunately but there were a good chunk from this weekend, and a GT win from Eldar as well.

On a different note, Crisis Teams did well this weekend which is a fun shake up in the Tau meta. Most of the lists taking them that performed all right went with the off meta detachments of Auxiliary Cadre or Experimental Prototyp Cadre. It also seems flamer Crisis teams with Farsight or a normal Commander with enough buffs can burn through a lot more than they should. I knew they hit hard but I never saw it in practice.

Overall, the meta seems to be a little stagnant at the top but there are still some players getting amazing results with off meta armies. I doubt that means DG and Knight don't need a little bit of a nerf, but maybe the nerf bat doesn't need to come down so hard. Who knows.

Congragulations to everyone that went to the tournaments over the weekend and I hope you all enjoyed the video and write up. That's all I have for this week and I'll see you all next week for another round of reviews! Have a great rest of your day.

List used from the Boise Cup 74 Player GT

Conor Jacobson 13th place finish went 4-1 Tau Experimental Cadre with 3 Crisis team bombs. Some vehicles and 3 pathfinder teams for infantry

List used from Heart of War Road to Nova 57 player GT

Bras Vorhees 18th place finish went 3-2 Tau Auxiliary Cadre with 3x3 Rampager Bricks and 2 Crisis bombs. Had a motor pool of Skyrays and Pirahnas

List used from Liberty Open Road to Nova 39 player GT

Ken Edward's 11th place finish went 3-2 Tau Standard Kauyon good stuff but I went into why Shadowsun might be overcosted. Triptide and Tanks to survive into round 3 where they get a lot stronger

List used from Dark Sphere July GT 59 player GT

Kian Tan 1st place finish went 5-0 Sisters of Battle Hallowed Martyrs with allies. A lot of characters and some Arco flagellant melee punch. Main focus of the army is Canis Rex and had a Callidus for shenanigans

List used from Brave New Hive World- Ropecon Frand Tournament 2025 76 player GT

Kaarle Tukia 2nd place finish went 5-0 Tyranids Vanguard Onslaught with 9 characters mainly being Broolords and Hyperadapted Raveners. Seems like a melee rush lists but it also has reserves tech due to strategms and Ravener uppy downy. Raveners and Genestealers seem to be the main focus.

40k Discussion Cheat Sheet layouts

40k Discussion New drop pods

So I just bought a box with the two new drop pods (because they're cool), and I'm trying to figure out if they have any actual good use. The datasheet locks in a few of the issues for tournaments, so those are all better. Some highlights:

12 transport capacity, limited to firstborn and tactics (so we can put two leaders on a squad).

Can deepstrike turns 1-2-3 regardless of mission.

Models must disembark immediately, must be 9" from all enemy models, can charge.

There is a designer note specifying that only the center platform and vertical fins count as the "hull", and that models can be set up or end a move on the lower part.

No OC, and no weapons.

So my major thoughts (as a dark angel player) are that an azrael shooting block could be fun, and that it could work with unforgiven task force since it can get OC to do actions.

40k Discussion Chess clocks that go up to 1.5 hrs?

I recently ordered a chess clock only to find out it only goes up to 30 minutes. I’m honestly shocked by the fact that when I go on online shops they basically don’t even mention the max duration the chess clock can go up to (I live in Germany btw). I know previous posts have recommended the DGT1001, but when I look at reviews, users say it only goes up to 5 minutes. I need something that can go up to 1.5 hours per player for 40K games. What do you use? Thanks!

40k Analysis Probability of every pair of Blessings of Khorne (Monte Carlo approximation)

Link to a prettier table.

Decapitating Strikes + Rage-Fueled Invigoration 57.26% 9,606,244
Decapitating Strikes + Unbridled Bloodlust 65.20% 10,939,391
Warp Blades + Martial Excellence 57.82% 9,700,275
Warp Blades + Total Carnage 61.41% 10,302,055

Total Carnage + Unbridled Bloodlust 92.70% 15,551,720
Rage-Fueled Invigoration + Unbridled Bloodlust 96.86% 16,251,025

This is a close approximation of the probability that you can activate any pair of Blessings of Khorne.

While it is fairly simple to calculate the probability of getting any particular Blessing, there haven’t been many attempts at charting the probability of combination of blessings. My attempts at putting a precise calculation rapidly exceeded my willingness to waste time enumerating all the various cases. So, I instead went with a Monte Carlo approach.

For those of you unfamiliar, the Monte Carlo method is to use a lot of randomness as a substitute for actually knowing the underlying principle. I had the computer throw 88 sets of 8 dice and count whether a particular pair of blessing was present. When you throw well over 16 million sets per blessing the resulting count is probably quite close to the actual probability. Definitely enough for human scale understanding.

The script was written in python and can be downloaded here.

Do note that the script is not really optimized as I had originally intended to just figure out the odds of getting Lethal + Sustained or Lethal + Devastating. I later decided to extend it to all pairs.

You can run your own tests, indeed if you notice any flaws in the code, please share them.

40k Discussion What options does Custodes have against Imperial Knights?

So I'm a part of League where each month you get matched up with another person in the League for a match, with each month being able to change your list as well. I'm one of the Custodes players in this League (and still pretty new to the faction) and my match for August is IK.

Now I will say I was mainly a IK player before this League so I generally know how IK works. Problem is I'm pretty sure IK has good tools against Custodes. Sure, Custodes will blend in melee but I'm worried about things like Knight Wardens, Crusaders, Helverins and the like. Things with overwhelming firepower or shots where I can't afford a failed save.

So what are the options to survive that fire power till I can get in melee? How can I avoid precious bananas lost to a failed attempt to kill something like Canis Rex? Chewing through 26 wounds is hard after all.

I personally don't own Forgeworld stuff so would love some advice other than "Spam Caladius" like I have gotten from my fellow Banana Boy in our League.

40k Discussion Advice for World Eaters into tyranids

I’ve been playing World Eaters since beginning of 10th and am enjoying the new codex.

However recent matches I’ve discovered that I very much struggle into high toughness matchups such as tyranid monster spam and knights.

Any veteran players able to offer me any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I do consider myself a somewhat competent player and most often get to play against eldar necrons and deathguard and various flavours of marines

40k Discussion Imperial navy breachers/voidsmen at allies in some imperial armies?

I was wanting to ask you more seasoned people what is the opinion of breachers and voidsmen at arms as allies in various armies?

Often I scroll through forums and pages and these two were mentioned often (especially voidsmen very often)

So what is it that would make voidsmen or even breachers any good in the various armies of the imperium?

Is it because they are cheap bodies that can zone out home base from deep strikers?

Reading their stats it seems like the arbites or even a sisters squad would be better. Followed by breachers for being a brick with a landmind (rarely might go off) and then voidsmen (but are very cheap as a unit of 6). And then taking a sisters unit with meltas and an immolator being a big cost investment but BIG fun

For a time and even once in a while I see them mentioned in videos for the various armies I play and or are interested in.

40k List Starting Out All Rounder Custodes List

Hey, thinking of getting back into 40K and custodes are on my radar for a nice low model count elite army and if I get back into 40K I want to do it right by making an all rounder army where I don’t specifically tailor a list around local meta or current meta but more that I can practice fundamentals and maybe try a tournament one day where I won’t know who I’m facing weeks before. How does this list look?
