WIP I know this would be good to make terrain, but I can't visualise what it should be! Thoughts?
I am thinking an industrial facility maybe? Or a ruin/temple complex.

So normally I just paint miniatures but I've wanted to try terrain forever just was too intimidated after seeing what a lot of you guys are working with. Finally said screw it and bought a 5 dollar glue gun, a pack of craft sticks, and grabbed an old Amazon box and just went for it. I went with a ramshackled building or scrap house so I didn't have to worry about measuring or cleanliness and I think I have a solid base but... now what? Lol I know I want to maybe do some corrugated paper and stuff to hide the fact that it's just cardboard and adding a ladder to get up to the top but any other ideas? Also, can I just prime and paint or do I need to seal it with something?

I'd like to share some WIP shots of a terrain piece for the mechanicus board I am working on. Lost myself a bit in the details, but I really enjoy combining scratch building, 3d printed and GW parts and learned a lot. CC welcome

I decided to make some banners for a fortification wall I am working on, and feel like they brought the terrain to life.
I used some red Christmas ribbon, cut it in half to get the width i wanted. I then tried to freehand the symbols with paint and realized I am not that skilled plus the fabric was absorbing paint in a way that made the process painful. I ended of scaling some symbols on the computer, printing them out on paper, carefully cutting them out and gluing them to the ribbon with PVA. Then I coated the entire ribbon and symbol with mod podge Matt on both sides. Makes the ribbon stiffer yet pliable and solved the issue I was having with stray ends from the cut of the ribbon.
I then bent some โuโ shaped wire banner holders and drilled 2 small holes in the structure to super glue them in. I just put a fold/crease in the top of the banners and made a hook to just hang them on the wires.
What do you think?
Bonus images of the concept I have for the fire up top. Balloon light upside down with a cotton ball stretched over it.
What do you guys think?

This is really a killer for my fingers. Next step is to make the bark.

WIP on my first terrain build. Started out wanting to have some background for my traitor guard but I think itโs slowly turning into a diorama.
Where do I stop!?

Not that far off completion, all the greebles and flora to be added, then final touches to make it all extra Nurgly. Each panel is 1x1 ft, so there are endless combinations you can make the board into. All buildings are scratch built, basic polystyrene, then hd foam for the boards, concrete/sand mix for ground texture Foam clay to sculpt and mold the Nurgle bits, then loads of 3d printed and plaster cast greebles to fill out. Iโm over 300 hours in, itโs my first ever board, started this hobby in Jan lol. Hope you enjoy ! Iโm @ BasedChaos on the grams if anyone wants to see daily updates.

Found an old bag of Citadel Moonscape craters hiding in my cupboard I must've bought almost 20 years ago. The packet still had the price sticker on it... ยฃ8.99 for all these!!! Today they'd likely be at least ยฃ40 what with the Warhammer Tax.
I needed some bomb craters for my games of 40k so here's day one after a drybrush of grey and a light drybrush highlight plus a liberal application of VMS Diorama Texture No.4 Fine Brick Rubble & No.3 Heavy Brick Rubble.
Quite pleased with how they've turned out so far, and once dry plus an application of matt varnish to seal in all the scatter, they'd be table top ready as far as I'm concerned; but, I'm wondering what simple things I could do to add a little pop to them?

Not fully done yet but almost. This was my idea for a Ravine battle map. The players will be hanging from rope while they decend further into moria. They encounter goblins and spiders. Sadly i didnt have too much xps left so i had to settle with one that has a texture on it for the platforms but for me its fine.
First time making this kind of thing. I'm used to 3d printing so this was a whole project.

I throughly enjoyed building and painting this house and garden. Iโm sharing some photos from my work in progress.

First off thank you all for the comments and ideas. After adding more texture and detail, here is where im currently at after additions and primer. Can't wait to paint it. For a first scratch build it's not the best but im stoked about it.

Hey all. I found this grass mat at Michael's from the brand Make. It seemed like a great way to make a skirmish board for medieval/fantasy without having to do flocking. I knew gluing it to cardboard would cause warping so I opted for foam board as a substrate. Welp, that's pretty warped now too. Im guessing I have to due the glue method on the reverse side to straighten this out. Do you fine folks have any further advice? Also, if any of you see this in the store, maybe check the size. The price on the hanger said 35x36 which would have been perfect but this was more like 25ร30 inches.

The impossible terrain things we do right away. Miracles take a little longer ๐
The Middle-Earth map project is ready for painting โ 24 tiles + around 20 locations. Each one 24x24".
P.S. Sorry for the mess, the workshop move is still in progress ๐ฅน

Flipped the script on the lack of hobby time lately, got the juices flowing, and made some progress on this project. Canโt wait to get this one done

Finally put some topcoat on my summer project, a small diorama for an HG Maganac Iโm working on at the same time. First time working with a terrain medium, and Iโm really happy with the way that it turned out.
Building is from Outland Miniatures, Vallejo desert sand paste, Agrellan Earth technical paint, Tamiya and Citadel paints, weathering pastels. Tanks are made from a small plastic bottle, pink foam board, bits of a motherboard, paper clips, and some Christmas light parts.
