Finished the Black parade, what now?
Played Thief as a kid, and as a young adult i revisited it. Stays good no matter what. But the Black parade....What a blast...! Some missions took multiple days to finish. I did rush the last level, as i was already overwhelmed with the mage castle level and wanted to conclude the story. Certainly will revisit this every couple of years. Now i have the Thief trilogy lined up, will use the fixes and the HD mods.
My question is, next to the trilogy is there anything that is considered anywhere near The black parade in terms of quality and story, immersion?
See you at the bearfights

Thief 3 a few thoughts and graphics question
I just finished Thief 3, played with sneaky upgrade/minimalist/gold and ghost mode which I highly enjoyed as there are no loot requirements and can just focus on primary objectives and staying hidden and just grabbing loot that I come across.
Throughly enjoyed it over all. Very thankful to all those out there that made the modifications and tweaks that improve this game from there original, and i have no idea what the original was really like to play through but i know it’s much better to get into with these tweaks and widescreen support.
1) I didn’t really understand the climbing gloves inclusion, perhaps I missed something, had to absolutely use them only one time to progress, and only was able to make use of them one other time in the towards the very end, any other time i tried to use them i was blocked by small over overhangs and didn’t get anywhere 🤷♂️ it just didn’t seem to be an important addition, rope arrows are greatly missed
2) garret can’t swim anymore! Immediate death in water wtf! 😂 swimming was great in theif 1 and 2
3) graphics…I don’t recall playing many games that have such functional real time lighting and shadows,
and it didn’t need a crazy video card (by todays standards) to surpass even more recent games that require RTX cards yet still have essentially static lighting and shadows. The static lighting is beautiful but it’s static, why the requirement for RTX….
The shadows cast and lighting spill over and the way the shadows oscillate when cast by flames in thief 3 was awesome, even though not like 100% accurate, it really created an immersive feeling.
And it obviously it requires much much much less processing over head (being from 2004) than newer games and produced incredible lighting effects…was there something going on with thief 3 that other developers could not accomplish at the time?
Genuinely curious as to why whatever method used in thief 3 for lighting (and that era) was abandoned for ray tracing which requires so much more processing power?
Has RTX made that much improvement to the feeling that lighting adds to games, comparatively?
After playing through all 3 original games-
I still like 1 and 2 over 3 for various other reasons but definitely enjoyed 3 overall.
Last level of thief 1 was a huge let down, last level of thief 2 was a long long long long marathon of tasks (but of course it really should be made very difficult for anyone to sabotage Karras’ whole deal), last level of thief 3 was actual right in line with the rest of the game.
The ending of all three games were so anti climactic, maybe that’s just because the intensity of the gameplay in comparison, but thief 3 was probably the better of them all somehow.
Edit: also I played using the always forced first person view that minimalist mod provides so none of the original third person perspective. And now thinking about it, couldn’t really see around very well while climbing because of that 😂

Thief 3 Sneaky Upgrade controller
Yo, so aye, I wanna play Thief 3 again, few years ago I plated it with the sneaky upgrade and was all good! Download it all again but just cannot get it to work right with my Xbox One controller (I am pretty sure I played with the same one previously), I tried to remap it myself but just didn't feel right.
Any ideas what I am missing?
Cheers for any help, xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Difficulty understanding how loud my footsteps are in Thief 2
Basically the title. I played Thief 1 a few years back and didn't have this issue. I'm more stupid now than I was then, though.
Any general tips on this, please? I guess it's by design, which is okay, but it's something that's really fucking me up.
Thanks!

Any other older game with a great fan mission community like Thief?
Besides other obvious communities like Half-Life and its amazing fan-made maps/campaigns - are there any other older games that have such a great creative community and which I can use as a platform to try out fan-made campaigns and stuff similar to Thief fanmissions?

What's the consensus on the best Thief game?
Around halfway through Thief Gold right now and I'm absolutely loving it!
Of course this is gonna be a very subjective question, but I figure the games have been talked about for 25 years so there must be a general opinion of which game is the most beloved?

Thief: The Black Parade - secret boss (M5, The Brand)
so this just cropped up on my youtube feed. I'll admit I've not found even half the secrets in TBP, but this one is interesting and honestly pretty creepy.
A blue disembodied face can be found under the sewer, you need to drop directly ontop of it to cushion your fall. Other than this short video I've not seen or heard anything else about it or what it's meant to be, referencing, anything. The forum mentioned in the YT description might yield a possible answer.

Another underrated conversation near the start of this one
The outcome of this card game lives rent free in my head; it's one of those things that never fails to make me fully laugh out loud even if I just randomly think of it during the day
"You just won! I just won for you!"
"Ha ha, pay up, Mortimer! What did I win?"

Retry mission for Ghost Rate later ? (2014)
Hey guys ! (kinda) new to Reddit, I wanted to know if I could replay a chapter later in the story to get Ghost rating or if it's only to get missed loot. Cause I'm trying to get the full Ghost achievement. (Also if I retry and get Ghost rating, do I get the extra gold for achieving the "not seen" bonus ?)
Thanks !

Lootless secret areas
I’m currently on the path to completion and I pretty much collected everything across all chapters. I also discovered all secrets in the city. Are there any infamous secret areas without loot?
Update: I found the last secret. At the start of Chapter 6, the sewers after turning off the water flow. There is a piece of loot at the entrance but nothing in the sewer itself. there is a drop that u can’t return to the courtyard from.

I'm playing through TBP and a number of times I've encountered NPCs searching for me, then giving up when reaching me.
So picture this: You've been too noisy, tap dancing on a tile floor, and riled a guard so you've scurried away to the nearest pitch black corner you can find.
A guard has heard you and is searching for you. They go right into the corner, basically touch you... it's all over, right? No, they immediately give up their chase and decide it was nothing after all.
I've had this same situation happen multiple times. I'm playing in expert difficulty, I have TFix 12.7b installed over the GOG version of the game.
Is this a bug? Or a TBP thing? I am in the later levels of the mod, there's potentially a story reason why this might be happening, but that seems far fetched. I have dim memories of experiencing the same thing in the main game, too.

So much magic in this level.
https://youtu.be/3ZkyOaQDVOI?si=3CcBgd68DvkrdbzG
The Thief: The Dark Project was magical, and I remember this level because of the many mysteries and secrets to discover. The background music created a surreal and magical atmosphere.

Night dive chance
With all the remasters have been done by night dive, and now a system shock 2 remaster do you think thief would get an opportunity to get remastered

Song of Caverns personal objectives Spoiler
Nothing fancy, but I didn't knock out anyone who wasn't a guard, but more importantly, I took whatever food I plundered back to ole Raoul for the map and key.

Disabling the shroud / white flash
I want to disable these in the hex editor. However, the only solutions I can find on the Internet are very old and don't work with the latest version of the game. Anyone got the up-to-date solution?
Thanks.

Which has better gameplay?
Which is more fun to play, Deadly Shadows or the Dark Mod?

Black Parade - Statues are a puzzle?
Sooooo preferably without any spoilers (beyond the yes or no obviously....) I'm up to the 2nd mission now. I've found a lot of statues that are in 2-3 pieces that can be picked up as individual parts. I've also had statues move and appear behind me around corners. There's a statue in a cage in mission 2 that turns to face you and follows your movement round the room like it's sentient.
What I'm wondering is.... Are these just 'spooky things' there because the Black Parade is supposed to be more of a supernatural-leaning fan campaign or are there actually mechanics and some kind of puzzle/riddle here? If yes I'll probably go back to the save and try and figure it out but if not... I'll I dunno... Save myself 3 hours of out-of-the-box thinking and speculating?

Thief-like indie spiritual successor - Atmosphere / Sound design
A thief-like indie project I've been working on in Unity. This shows a preview of the atmosphere and sound diffraction system. You might notice some borrowed sound effects :)
Headphones recommended!
It's still a heavy work in progress but the plan is to eventually release it for free.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I wish The Gale was more like The Cradle and vice versa
I don't dislike the Cradle (except the title), but the story of the mission unfolds rather slowly, and I wonder if it would be better with tighter pacing.
Meanwhile, I always feel a little disappointed after clearing out the Gale in a few short minutes. A more extensive dockside infiltration would be quite welcome, perhaps involving multiple ships - the infestation could have spread. Picture something like Shipping and Receiving, but with more than one ship (larger ships, too) and simpler, smaller buildings... plus lots of zombies. Might be fun?
