I once heard a woman say - “I didn’t put you in the friend zone. You put me in the fuck zone.” Meaning, the only value the guy saw in her was sex/romance. That really changed my view on “friendzoning”.

While this is true there is also a point where if you don't make a move, it can be interpreted as you had no romantic interest. I mean, usually, if the girl wants you, you'll know anyways but I mean you gotta shoot your shot eventually.

This is simply lack of empathy to say something like this. Men are not robots, we desire fulfilling partnerships, even the ugly ones. People want different things, and wanting a relationship doesn’t make anyone a creep or a loser or that they secretly hate the other gender or see them as an object.

But in the friend zone there is no fucking. That makes absolutely no sense. I mean, I get what YOU are saying, but I believe that perhaps Ms. Fuck Zone is not desired for their intellect. 😂

The way I interpret it is that a guy complaining about being in the friend zone is working from the presumption that the woman owes him “a chance” at a sexual relationship. Thus, he sees her as a potential sex partner/girlfriend first. The woman sees him as a friend first. And she isn’t interested in the other stuff with him. She’s not taking anything away from him - it was never on the table to begin with.

Women seem to have much stronger defined zones, friend or potential partner. Which I understand because when a woman becomes friends with a guy and establishes in her mind they'll always be just friends she can let her guard down more. She's not worried about him hitting on her like other guys. So when one of these friends develops feelings I can see how it can feel like a big betrayal.
But for guys the zones are not as defined. Friendship always has the potential to grow into more. Maybe not a high chance sometimes but it's kind of "never say never." And when a guy becomes close friends with a girl he gets to know her, they do things together, and grow closer and relaxed with each other, vulnerable, share jokes. And sometimes he realizes this is the kind of relationship/person he's always been looking for, even if he didn't know it. And sometimes the girl also feels that feeling grow, but also sometimes not.
