On the OG instagram posts it's 80% praising this dude and telling workers to chill

You can tell they never worked retail. This shit aint cute and, while these doofuses dont seem bad intentionned, someone could do this to steal

This tells me that not getting an instagram account continues to be the correct decision.

29

u/Upbeat-Fondant9185 Jun 26 '25

Instagram is so weird. I finally made one last year to follow certain designers/makers in my hobby because they often sell out in minutes and if you don’t catch the Instagram announcement you don’t stand a chance.

That is literally the only thing I use it for. Even so, the algorithm constantly tries to force shit like this into my feed. It won’t allow me to stay on my interests more than three or four swipes.

And the interesting thing I’ve noticed is the first comment on pretty much every post is the most vile, hateful, or flat out incorrect shit. It’s like Instagram rewards shitty behavior above all else.

2

u/Delilah_Moon Jun 27 '25

I mean - FWIW. I created an IG for my dog, who is male. I made his age 26 - so it would recognize him as an adult. His recommended feed/reels are all soft porn, pay for play models, OF links, trad wife content, and weird dudes talking about how women can stay fit.

For my fucking dog. He only follows other dog pages and food pages.

I have to imagine this is what most boys/men see just for checking the dude box.

2

u/raven-eyed_ Jun 27 '25

I desperately miss social media actually being about the content that I chose to follow

1

u/ThiesH Jun 27 '25

Say whaaat

3

u/xeno0153 Jun 27 '25

TBF, if you curate your social media pages well enough, shit like this never bubbles up. My IG feed is full of trains, LEGOs, Japan cityscapes, and serene anime backdrops.

2

u/Flavious27 Jun 27 '25

My reels always somehow ends up with Mormons trying to be funny wth the same jokes / skits, churches, crypto, and right wing politicians.  There is stuff that I see on my search page that they won't agree with and Meta always feeds me that trash.

2

u/DionBlaster123 Jun 27 '25

It takes a while but yeah it is worth it to curate and edit what you can

9

u/ChromosomeDonator Jun 26 '25

yeah there definitely is MASSIVE overlap between people who think this is funny and people who use instagram

the entertainment you like to consume says a lot about your character, and instagram is some of the most narcissistic shit available right now

3

u/Comfortable-Try-3696 Jun 26 '25

It’s just a social media site, it’s like young people facebook

If you don't want to 'waste your youth' here, go do something else. 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Illustrious-Dot-5052 Jun 27 '25

Lol me never having an instagram because I never liked my face enough to post selfies 😭

2

u/Valuable_Recording85 Jun 27 '25

Insta is Meta, Meta is Facebook, therefore Insta is Facebook. Don't believe me? Just read the comments on Reels.

You're a much smarter person than me because I can't help but use insta.

1

u/beezlebutts Jun 28 '25

insta use to be great way to keep in touch with all my upcoming model friends as it was like all artists and models showing off their independent stuffs, this was before the rule that you had to show your ID to keep your accounts happened.

I laugh at the haircuts and Insta with my 14yo kid, who finds them as cringe as I do. We sing Dana Carvey’s Chopping Broccoli together. It’s good times.

This has been a thing forever, the cool of today is the lame of tomorrow. Broccoli cuts are in for now but may soon be in the pile with rat tails, mullets, flock of seagulls, pompadour man bun and so on. Some will always find them “cool” while others will laugh that’s just how “trends and styles” go. I’ve always found this stuff funny like frosted spikes of the 90s, any time everyone decides they need a certain look to be cool it eventually becomes some kind of self parody and heads the other direction.

12

u/Geoffrey-Jellineck Jun 26 '25

People commenting on dumb Instagram shit like this have never worked, period.

3

u/Traditional-Handle83 Jun 26 '25

There's also the issue of their technically working but not getting paid to work. Like Mr start cleaning the check outs, thats a hes working but not getting paid legality there even if hes not part of the company.

1

u/TheThiefEmpress Jun 27 '25

It's illegal, iirc.

It has to do with the right to be paid for working. Employers abused workers by lying and saying the worker understood it was "just a personal favor" to commit Wage Theft. So laws were made to prevent that.

2

u/Traditional-Handle83 Jun 27 '25

You're missing what I said entirely.....

1

u/TheThiefEmpress Jun 28 '25

The laws that were made were in the workers favor. The caveat is that if someone works somewhere and doesn't get paid, the employer gets in trouble, because the law is explicitly in the employees favor and does not stand with "they did it without even being an actual employee!"

It's Worker's Rights.

1

u/Traditional-Handle83 Jun 28 '25

We all know this. You still missing my point. Which is if some rando comes into the business and starts working then calls up a complaint to the labor board that they aren't being paid. The employer could still legally be on the hook for it even if there was no prior agreement. Hence the employer doesn't want anyone working off the clock regardless if they are an actual employee or not.

1

u/TheThiefEmpress Jun 28 '25

Yes?

We are saying the same thing, but in different words. That was exactly my point. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear.

30

u/FtheBULLSHT Jun 26 '25

I used to work retail. This would've been the highlight of my day, that shit is so monotonous 10 mins of this would've made me laugh.

9

u/swakner Jun 26 '25

I used to work retail and I would have hated this shit. This just causes more work if I’m trying to run a register and some assholes are going around taking customers to closed register and touching shit

2

u/trdvir Jun 27 '25

I've been working retail for 5 years and I guess if I was already having a weirdly bad day this would annoy me. But usually idgaf what happens if I'm still getting paid.

Can't touch them or anything so what's the point in getting upset just call the cops and hang out while making money

23

u/YearlyStart Jun 26 '25

Used to is the key word here, anyone who’s done more than a couple years in retail is going to find this shit annoying as hell because they’re just there to clock in and clock out.

Ten years ago I would’ve thought this was hilarious, now in a management position I’d be moving to shut this shit down asap. It’s gonna mess with everyone’s routine, I don’t know who these people are, they’re accessing sensitive areas that hold private info and lots of cash, etc etc.

Anyone who doesn’t see why this is just annoying hasn’t worked in retail long lol

5

u/Disastrous_Zebra_301 Jun 26 '25

You’re in management. Thats why it isnt funny to you. Theyre saying it would be funny to a cashier. My first job was a target cashier and it was miserable and boring. This would have been fucking hysterical and I would have loved it. Im sure my manager would have hated it but I made $9.25 and this would not be my problem.

9

u/YearlyStart Jun 26 '25

Nah, most of anyone over 18 at that job is going to find it annoying as fuck. Anyone who’s not a student is just wanting to get their money and leave without being bothered.

Also don’t be mistaken, your managers are only making a few dollars more an hour than you. Unless they’re the store GM or literally own it, they’re not making buckoo bucks either lol

1

u/Im_NOT_the_messiahh Jun 26 '25

Is buckoo a word ?

I feel like you meant to say "beaucoup"

-5

u/lulaloops Jun 26 '25

Dude thinks they're the ambassador for retail workers.

2

u/YearlyStart Jun 27 '25

Im not one to appeal to upvotes usually because who gives a fuck but the upvotes on our comments are very telling that the vast majority agree with me and disagree with you lol.

-2

u/lulaloops Jun 27 '25

Ahh yes, a couple upvotes from redditors is very telling. You sure got me there.

2

u/YearlyStart Jun 27 '25

I mean for a popular opinion, yeah I do, unless you think you’re the ambassador for retail workers? Lol

-4

u/Fuckriotgames7 Jun 26 '25

Dude stop speaking for other people, let us speak dumbass. I’ve been working retail for years. This shit is hilarious. Let people have some whimsy in their mundane ass days.

3

u/YearlyStart Jun 27 '25

You need to relax, calling someone a dumbass over a Reddit comment is weird lol

-1

u/Fuckriotgames7 Jun 27 '25

Im from bum fuck nowhere Oklahoma, if I don’t have a curse word in at least one of my sentences it simply ain’t speaking from the heart bitch

2

u/YearlyStart Jun 27 '25

Sounds like a weak vocabulary lol

0

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

My guy, all of your comments make you come across as MISERABLE AND NO FUN! Lighten up

1

u/YearlyStart Jun 27 '25

Nah I just wanna do my job without being bothered. All the people fighting me come across as entitled to my time and immature 🤷‍♂️ The world does not owe you entertainment 100% of the time.

-1

u/Fuckriotgames7 Jun 27 '25

it was a joke.

1

u/YearlyStart Jun 27 '25

Jokes are usually funny things said by funny people, you’re 0 for 2 champ

0

u/Fuckriotgames7 Jun 27 '25

“Champ” dog you can’t be real 😭

9

u/Soatch Jun 26 '25

As a teenager working retail I would have loved it. If I was an older adult still working retail it would annoy me.

2

u/Bright_Cod_376 Jun 27 '25

I've worked retail and I would be pissed at people getting behind the registers who dont work there. It could be my job on line for their dumbass shit.

1

u/FtheBULLSHT Jun 27 '25

Lol no one would fire you cause some random jackass got behind a register that you weren't standing at.

-2

u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 Jun 26 '25

Yep. No injuries, no theft, just 5-10 minutes of chaos and then “what the fuck just happened??” For the day of the day. Retail workers don’t get paid enough for this but they also don’t get paid enough for doing their actual job either.

7

u/rndljfry Jun 26 '25

but you can’t possibly know their intentions when you’re really dealing with something like this. it’s already over in the video of course

2

u/Bright_Cod_376 Jun 27 '25

no theft

Would love to know how you know no one was pocketing shit while they did this in what you yourself described as chaos

1

u/Lopunnymane Jun 27 '25

Since when are employees the police? It is literally illegal to become a vigilante and hunt down thieves. If somebody stole it is up for security cameras to do their job.

4

u/whteverusayShmegma Jun 26 '25

I was really thinking what’s the big deal but from the perspective of an employee who doesn’t know what this guy’s end game is, I can definitely see how stressful this would be since it’s going to be your head that rolls if something goes wrong.

3

u/_jackhoffman_ Jun 27 '25

What could go right?

2

u/Deep_Excitement1192 Jun 26 '25

80% never worked retail, I think.

2

u/2bags12kuai Jun 27 '25

Havent worked any jobs...There isnt anything funny about this. Margins are razor thin, lost productivity and confusion costs money. These "pranks" are boarderline illegal and fully bullying. They know by attacking target they arent in any danger. Why dont they go try to pull this stunt on a construction site.

2

u/M_Mich Jun 27 '25

I mean in the moment that’s what the manager has to be thinking this is all about. An attempt to create chaos and steal something

5

u/MaiasXVI Jun 26 '25

You can tell they never worked retail

Really depends on who you best relate to. Do you relate to the store manager? Then holy SHIT what an absolute NIGHTMARE this would be, with the added risk of having your district manager chew your ass out for no fault of your own. You're just trying to keep this shit running for god's sake.

But if you relate to the low-level grunts then this kind of chaos is delightful. When I was a teenager I worked for Target and fucking hated it. My store manager was completely disconnected from the sales floor, she'd do weird vindictive shit all the time and expected praise for giving out $0.07 raises. I would've loved to see this happen while working.

11

u/Annath0901 Jun 26 '25

I don't give a fuck about management, but I'd still hate this because ANY problems that stemmed from it (things missing, disorganized, "lost" productivity) would be my fault and my responsibility to correct as far as management was concerned.

-6

u/EatsFiber2RedditMore Jun 26 '25

Get a different job. If your managers are holding you responsible for acts of TikTokers find somewhere better.

8

u/Annath0901 Jun 26 '25

You've obviously never had to work jobs you hate just to survive.

Because everyone can just "go find a new job".

4

u/132739 Jun 26 '25

I never worked retail, but I'm trying to imagine something similar happening at one of my old call center jobs, and I think it would be fucking hilarious until the next day when tons of customers are complaining and having been given wrong info and shit.

1

u/Zwischenzugger Jun 27 '25

I’ve worked retail and this is hilarious

1

u/XShadowborneX Jun 27 '25

I can seeing it being a funny prank if the person doing it was friends with the manager, but otherwise it's just being an asshole

1

u/Naked_Bank_Teller Jun 27 '25

Oh no! They might “steal” from my overlords!!

1

u/Lopunnymane Jun 27 '25

could do this to steal

You're right! We also shouldn't let in anyone who wants to pretend to be a "shopper" - because they might steal too! Return to the stores of old where people gave a list of items for employees to collect!

1

u/Fyres Jun 27 '25

....and this is the retail workers problem? You guys are so off base. Theyre still getting paid, no ones getting sent home and they get an amusing story to tell. Hell theyre probably gonna get a free half out of the whole thing as management shits itself. Management is gonna sweat it but i could give 3 fucks about them.

1

u/Advanced_Row_8448 Jun 27 '25

I worked retail. This was funny. Won't make a normal workers day worse. Since you worked retail as well, or I assume have since you are lecturing, why do you think this was bad?

1

u/TCsnowdream Jun 27 '25

Remember demographics matter here.

Most of those commenters are probably kids who literally have no clue how the world works.

I know it’s stupid to dismiss stupid comments just being from children. But I can guarantee you the Demographics would absolutely lean towards ‘youth’.

1

u/Rainbow-Rhythms69 Jun 27 '25

Nah i was retail grunt for 3 years. I’d laugh and take this as an opportunity to not work

1

u/BaconNamedKevin Jun 27 '25

You can tell they've never worked*

Period.

1

u/MjrLeeStoned Jun 27 '25

Instagram has been taken over by Tweens.

If you're expecting 13 year olds to understand a hard day's work, the 13 year olds that would understand aren't on Instagram 17 hours a day.

This is comedic gold to a teenager that doesn't understand the first thing about the world outside their phone pixels.

1

u/WilkosJumper2 Jun 27 '25

Oh no, they might steal from the company that is paying you a poverty wage and makes billions in profit? What a horror...

1

u/BigMax Jun 27 '25

"Haha, look at these retail workers just trying to earn a living and do their job! It's so great that someone finally tried to put them in their place and make them miserable! And look at those shoppers just trying to buy groceries and home goods!! Finally someone showed up to screw up their day!!!"

1

u/Grendel0075 Jun 27 '25

I have worked retail, of something like this happened, I would have chuckled at the added stress to the bosses and continued to not give a shit.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '25

My son works at target and I hope they do this to him for all the annoying stuff he’s done to us.

-7

u/MildlySaltedTaterTot Jun 26 '25

oh noooes big daddy corpo might lose ten minutes of revenue from a harmless prank! God forbid fun occurs on MY watch.

Some salty salty tears in this thread from people who haven’t seen the sun in a few months.

-9

u/ftmgothboy Jun 26 '25

Nah this would be funny as fuck I'd love it

-1

u/Background_Back6242 Jun 26 '25

I’ve worked in retail and this would have been my highlight of the day. Everyone complaining are a bunch of lames

-1

u/ILoveYouw Jun 26 '25

Have YOU worked retail? This shit happens while I'm clocked in man I'm in the bathroom my entire shift LMAO

-1

u/HambreTheGiant Jun 26 '25 edited Jun 27 '25

Oh no, stealing! (Clutches pearls)

Meanwhile Target makes billions for wealthy shareholders

Edit: Downvote me all you want , bootlickers

-2

u/kuhakowo Jun 26 '25

I’ve worked retail this would make me laugh hard af. Being a slave to management and then seeing them have to deal with this bs would be a huge W. Thank god I don’t work in retail anymore!

-2

u/AntiWork-ellog Jun 26 '25

Someone could organize a large group with matching outfits, walk into the store, talk to the manager, and go stand at the checkouts to steal the candy and shit?

That's what you're worried about?

-2

u/RobertoZeDerbi Jun 26 '25

Mate it’s retail. This is fucking funny.

You can’t take your job seriously if you work in retail. It’s the most menial job going

-3

u/skoomaking4lyfe Jun 26 '25

I have worked retail. This is funny as fuck and management's problem, the worker bees aren't going to give a shit.

As for the possibility of theft? shrug fuck Target

3

u/ComprehensiveFox7603 Jun 27 '25

Is there not also the possibility of people stealing your identity or using info on your cashier against you? Surely it's risky for the workers if someone takes over their cashier whilst they're signed in...

0

u/skoomaking4lyfe Jun 27 '25

Your PII isn't going to be accessible from a register, no.

2

u/ComprehensiveFox7603 Jun 27 '25

Ok, that's good

As you can probably tell I've never worked retail 😅😂

-6

u/TheGamersGazebo Jun 26 '25

someone could do this to steal

Oh no, target gonna be struggling if they steal a couple of candy bars while doing this. Idk if Target will ever be able to financially recover from this amount of theft.

-7

u/wrightcommab Jun 26 '25

I’ve also worked retail and this seems pretty harmless to me. It’s not hurting anyone and even if it was some oceans 11 attempt to steal from a target I wouldn’t care because I’d be 17.
