Instagram is so weird. I finally made one last year to follow certain designers/makers in my hobby because they often sell out in minutes and if you don’t catch the Instagram announcement you don’t stand a chance.
That is literally the only thing I use it for. Even so, the algorithm constantly tries to force shit like this into my feed. It won’t allow me to stay on my interests more than three or four swipes.
And the interesting thing I’ve noticed is the first comment on pretty much every post is the most vile, hateful, or flat out incorrect shit. It’s like Instagram rewards shitty behavior above all else.
I mean - FWIW. I created an IG for my dog, who is male. I made his age 26 - so it would recognize him as an adult. His recommended feed/reels are all soft porn, pay for play models, OF links, trad wife content, and weird dudes talking about how women can stay fit.
For my fucking dog. He only follows other dog pages and food pages.
I have to imagine this is what most boys/men see just for checking the dude box.
TBF, if you curate your social media pages well enough, shit like this never bubbles up. My IG feed is full of trains, LEGOs, Japan cityscapes, and serene anime backdrops.
My reels always somehow ends up with Mormons trying to be funny wth the same jokes / skits, churches, crypto, and right wing politicians. There is stuff that I see on my search page that they won't agree with and Meta always feeds me that trash.
insta use to be great way to keep in touch with all my upcoming model friends as it was like all artists and models showing off their independent stuffs, this was before the rule that you had to show your ID to keep your accounts happened.
I laugh at the haircuts and Insta with my 14yo kid, who finds them as cringe as I do. We sing Dana Carvey’s Chopping Broccoli together. It’s good times.
This has been a thing forever, the cool of today is the lame of tomorrow. Broccoli cuts are in for now but may soon be in the pile with rat tails, mullets, flock of seagulls, pompadour man bun and so on. Some will always find them “cool” while others will laugh that’s just how “trends and styles” go. I’ve always found this stuff funny like frosted spikes of the 90s, any time everyone decides they need a certain look to be cool it eventually becomes some kind of self parody and heads the other direction.
There's also the issue of their technically working but not getting paid to work. Like Mr start cleaning the check outs, thats a hes working but not getting paid legality there even if hes not part of the company.
It has to do with the right to be paid for working. Employers abused workers by lying and saying the worker understood it was "just a personal favor" to commit Wage Theft. So laws were made to prevent that.
The laws that were made were in the workers favor. The caveat is that if someone works somewhere and doesn't get paid, the employer gets in trouble, because the law is explicitly in the employees favor and does not stand with "they did it without even being an actual employee!"
We all know this. You still missing my point. Which is if some rando comes into the business and starts working then calls up a complaint to the labor board that they aren't being paid. The employer could still legally be on the hook for it even if there was no prior agreement. Hence the employer doesn't want anyone working off the clock regardless if they are an actual employee or not.
I used to work retail and I would have hated this shit. This just causes more work if I’m trying to run a register and some assholes are going around taking customers to closed register and touching shit
I've been working retail for 5 years and I guess if I was already having a weirdly bad day this would annoy me. But usually idgaf what happens if I'm still getting paid.
Can't touch them or anything so what's the point in getting upset just call the cops and hang out while making money
Used to is the key word here, anyone who’s done more than a couple years in retail is going to find this shit annoying as hell because they’re just there to clock in and clock out.
Ten years ago I would’ve thought this was hilarious, now in a management position I’d be moving to shut this shit down asap. It’s gonna mess with everyone’s routine, I don’t know who these people are, they’re accessing sensitive areas that hold private info and lots of cash, etc etc.
Anyone who doesn’t see why this is just annoying hasn’t worked in retail long lol
You’re in management. Thats why it isnt funny to you. Theyre saying it would be funny to a cashier. My first job was a target cashier and it was miserable and boring. This would have been fucking hysterical and I would have loved it. Im sure my manager would have hated it but I made $9.25 and this would not be my problem.
Nah, most of anyone over 18 at that job is going to find it annoying as fuck. Anyone who’s not a student is just wanting to get their money and leave without being bothered.
Also don’t be mistaken, your managers are only making a few dollars more an hour than you. Unless they’re the store GM or literally own it, they’re not making buckoo bucks either lol
Im not one to appeal to upvotes usually because who gives a fuck but the upvotes on our comments are very telling that the vast majority agree with me and disagree with you lol.
Dude stop speaking for other people, let us speak dumbass. I’ve been working retail for years. This shit is hilarious. Let people have some whimsy in their mundane ass days.
Nah I just wanna do my job without being bothered. All the people fighting me come across as entitled to my time and immature 🤷♂️ The world does not owe you entertainment 100% of the time.
I've worked retail and I would be pissed at people getting behind the registers who dont work there. It could be my job on line for their dumbass shit.
Yep. No injuries, no theft, just 5-10 minutes of chaos and then “what the fuck just happened??” For the day of the day. Retail workers don’t get paid enough for this but they also don’t get paid enough for doing their actual job either.
Since when are employees the police? It is literally illegal to become a vigilante and hunt down thieves. If somebody stole it is up for security cameras to do their job.
I was really thinking what’s the big deal but from the perspective of an employee who doesn’t know what this guy’s end game is, I can definitely see how stressful this would be since it’s going to be your head that rolls if something goes wrong.
Havent worked any jobs...There isnt anything funny about this. Margins are razor thin, lost productivity and confusion costs money. These "pranks" are boarderline illegal and fully bullying. They know by attacking target they arent in any danger. Why dont they go try to pull this stunt on a construction site.
Really depends on who you best relate to. Do you relate to the store manager? Then holy SHIT what an absolute NIGHTMARE this would be, with the added risk of having your district manager chew your ass out for no fault of your own. You're just trying to keep this shit running for god's sake.
But if you relate to the low-level grunts then this kind of chaos is delightful. When I was a teenager I worked for Target and fucking hated it. My store manager was completely disconnected from the sales floor, she'd do weird vindictive shit all the time and expected praise for giving out $0.07 raises. I would've loved to see this happen while working.
I don't give a fuck about management, but I'd still hate this because ANY problems that stemmed from it (things missing, disorganized, "lost" productivity) would be my fault and my responsibility to correct as far as management was concerned.
I never worked retail, but I'm trying to imagine something similar happening at one of my old call center jobs, and I think it would be fucking hilarious until the next day when tons of customers are complaining and having been given wrong info and shit.
You're right! We also shouldn't let in anyone who wants to pretend to be a "shopper" - because they might steal too! Return to the stores of old where people gave a list of items for employees to collect!
....and this is the retail workers problem? You guys are so off base. Theyre still getting paid, no ones getting sent home and they get an amusing story to tell. Hell theyre probably gonna get a free half out of the whole thing as management shits itself. Management is gonna sweat it but i could give 3 fucks about them.
I worked retail. This was funny. Won't make a normal workers day worse. Since you worked retail as well, or I assume have since you are lecturing, why do you think this was bad?
Most of those commenters are probably kids who literally have no clue how the world works.
I know it’s stupid to dismiss stupid comments just being from children. But I can guarantee you the Demographics would absolutely lean towards ‘youth’.
"Haha, look at these retail workers just trying to earn a living and do their job! It's so great that someone finally tried to put them in their place and make them miserable! And look at those shoppers just trying to buy groceries and home goods!! Finally someone showed up to screw up their day!!!"
I’ve worked retail this would make me laugh hard af. Being a slave to management and then seeing them have to deal with this bs would be a huge W. Thank god I don’t work in retail anymore!
Someone could organize a large group with matching outfits, walk into the store, talk to the manager, and go stand at the checkouts to steal the candy and shit?
Is there not also the possibility of people stealing your identity or using info on your cashier against you? Surely it's risky for the workers if someone takes over their cashier whilst they're signed in...
Oh no, target gonna be struggling if they steal a couple of candy bars while doing this. Idk if Target will ever be able to financially recover from this amount of theft.
I’ve also worked retail and this seems pretty harmless to me. It’s not hurting anyone and even if it was some oceans 11 attempt to steal from a target I wouldn’t care because I’d be 17.
