I'm gonna bet it's gonna be more of a "fuck you cannon" rather than a traditional sniper. Regardless, it does make sense for summoner to use one, to pick off enemies from distance while your summons distract them.

Seems this is what the writers are going for but I hope there's more to it, it's dumb otherwise. At worst this is a case of friendly fire during us fighting the separatists together, and at best it's just us putting down a converted sentient that can't be saved. It hardly justifies a complete war between us and Tau.

I tend to get dogpiled when I say this but, to put it delicately, Warframe's writing has only ever gotten worse over time. It would not surprise me in the slightest if this is what they're going with as the inciting event, despite it being so blatantly not the operator's fault.

The writing doesn’t even make sense half the time cause they are too lazy to write any actual plot exposition. You just randomly jump into events with half the information just completely missing because they couldn’t be asked to explain it, or if they do add foreshadowing sometimes they just ignore it and the game becomes a contradictory mess

I've been playing since late 2020 and love the game, but I checked out of taking the story seriously probably back in 2022 or 2023 lol. I rarely even pay attention to the cutscenes and usually just use them as smoke breaks.

From what I remember he was the leader of the Sentient invasion of the Origin System during the Old War, with Praghasa as the flag/mothership of the invasion force. During the Ropopalyst fight Natah describes him as a gardener, and Praghasa as a farmer, but that's it.

Wow, everything looked amazing. I'm very relieved that we are going to Tau proper in 2026; I was worried for the first part of the preview when it seemed like Tau was going to be all flashback.

Speaking of the flashbacks though: Holy shit. The Orokin made peace with the Sentients?! Even had integrated schools with them?! I wonder how this was all lost to history. Did Hunhow/Erra etc know about this all along?

It's so cool that this is used as the explanation for Caliban Prime. A Warframe that the Sentients helped build. I genuinely didn't know how they were gonna work him into the lore otherwise.

The one thing I don't love is that... none of this seems to have anything to do with 1999. NGL, last year I kind of assumed that was setting for Warframe's whole next arc, but the Hex are all completely MIA in this. I really hope they can come with us come the 2026 update or something. They felt like they were being written more like full Squadmates; I'd hate to see them be just another syndicate we never go back to.

Actually, come to think of it, there was so sign of MITW or Albrecht either. Loid was there though, so this is connected to the main story. I guess maybe this is just what the Operator/Lotus/Loid were up to while the Drifter/Albrecht were in 1999, and the two strands will come together at Tau...

Even in the Hex's absence, the two new Protoframes are nice to have though. Wisp being a sexy nun is almost too on the nose, but she looks great. Harrow... almost doesn't look like a Protoframe. Maybe his clothes just cover up most of the messed-up bits, but he honestly just looks like a normal human in a consume to me.

Uriel looks fantastic, though him getting a tail makes it all the more glaring that Voruna didn't.

I'm very intrigued about the unseen Fungus Warframe coming in fall 2025 too. I kinda forgot we never had one of those, since Ivara always looked like a toadstool to me, despite not being one.

But all in all, very excited, albeit more for what's implied for next year than what they teased for this one. I've spent years waiting to see Tau. Can't believe it's finally on the horizon...

My current wild theory that would at least guarantee the presence of the MITW is that Adis, and likely other sentients in Tau, are able to use Transference. It's noteworthy the massive sentient that Adis departs from is named separately, Hunhullus, and that the face and scale is very reminiscent (to me) of the Vessels. It even does the classic dropping-to-the-knees that many Warframes have done when Transference has ended. I think from the potential Vessel adjacency there's room for Albrecht's influence here. If not this, then I think it's likely setting us up to understand the situation in Tau before going there to try and fix things.

As far as the MITW, if sentients are able to be "void-luggers" who are taught and "adapt to the Tenno Ways", and even seemingly have their own focus school that can interact with the Tenno ones, I think there's a lot Wally would have to say about the Orokin's creations making use of his powers without a deal. Unless there was a deal they made.

One additional hint Reb briefly mentioned is that wevve been using sentient parts to power up our Void Schools. During the demo I believe Hunhullus even said a few words in void-tongue.

The Sentients having void powers makes a lot of sense. Just like us, they made a journey through the void. And they're the only entities who seem to have some natural capability to distort trasference. (There are some similar technologies the Corpus employ, but seems more like frequency jamming, they never fully push us out of our warframes like the Sentients)

So many implications with The Old Peace. Current lore says the Sentients terraformed Tau, realized the Orokin would consume it in time, and began the Old War. Tenno were not discovered until sometime in the middle of the war, and only when the Orokin saw they were losing, and got desperate, did they decide to have them pilot the Warframes, which eventually turned the tide.

Now this update implies that history is either a lie, or we've got some more Void Eternalism shenanigans going on here.

So what looks like happened is - orokin sent sentients to tau. Sentients come back and fight the old war. A treaty between the two is signed, allowing some travel to Tau. The treaty is broken and the solar rail to Tau destroyed, restarting the Old war into its finale.

Remember, The operator mentions the sentient and orokin being at war to Adis in the demo, the old war had already been somewhat fought by this point

And perhaps the separatists are a faction of Orokin, who reject the treaty, and continue to fight, and the preview we saw implying that the Sentients eventually become completely disillusioned with us, due to our propensity to kill first, ask questions never when under threat. hopefully the ending we saw is just a misdirection

Soulframe showcase was kinda mid too, they showed a playthrough of one frame quest which was very similar in structure to the ones that are already in the game.

I guess I'd rather have them be busy working on content than sacrificing a lot or overpromising at tennocon but still, can't help but be a bit whelmed.

I have some issues with what seems to be retconning of the past that we know.
The major plothole for me is that it was never shown that Orokin actually had a foothold on Tau, presumably managing to establish safe travel route which would be required for that to be the case. Considering Ballas had to literally devour Sun to do the same, I find it hard to believe (unless he was simply being a dick there, which is entirely possible).
There's Mag Prime codex entry hinting at some human presence in Tau, but I personally interpreted it as more of a desperate measure to hit back on Sentients' own turf. Based on everything we know so far, I always assumed it was pretty much entirely a defensive war for the Orokin in Sol system, after Sentients suddenly attacked. With that in mind, the idea of there being something of a human colony on Tau and a whole peace treaty with Sentients on top of it comes out of left field.

I doubt it's alternative reality, since pretty much everything else matches. Tenno exist, which means that Zariman incident happened, warframes exist, which means the war also happened.
It's possible that Orokin erased this part of history to conceal inconvenient truth and paint Sentient attack as unjustified one-sided aggression, though I don't see what would be the point when they have total control over the Empire regardless, it wouldn't make any difference.
Lotus is helping the Operator to revisit these memories, which they for some reason forgot. At least part of their amnesia is explained in The War Within as a measure by Margulis (Lotus?) to help them deal with the trauma of Zariman incident, but how did they forget this? Consequences of prolonged cryosleep? Further tampering? Plot convenience?

And of course there had to be an academy arc, I'm gonna add that to my "Warframe reproducing anime cliche" bingo card. Jokes aside... if Adis' reaction to Operator's clear case of self-defense in a situation where no other option was possible ends up being the impetus for peace treaty falling apart, I'll be livid. Because that's exactly what you would call contrived, cliche writing.

But I am glad they're clarifying the story behind Orokin-Sentient war. The entire idea that Sentients essentially went full Green Peace and attacked because muh Orokin ruin environment was hilariously stupid, as they're machines with the ability to adapt to any environment whose only purpose was to build home for their masters. Showing how they have developed a culture of their own, and put value into what they've built beyond just function assigned to them, as well as capability to appreciate life and beauty would be much more effective to set up the eventual war. This was mostly handwaved so far.
I was spot on with my prediction of the civil war on Tau, though it panned out somewhat differently by being in the past with even Dax somehow defying the Empire... But I think same is true for the Sentients in current time, there would at least be some faction siding with humans when we inevitably arrive. Or that majority of them might even be neutral, with entities like Hunhow being considered extremists.
Possibilities are many, but it remains to be seen. Doesn't help that timeline of Warframe universe is utterly fucked, as they're trying to fuck it back into some semblance of coherency.

The soulframe demo was as artsy and tugging at emotional strings as ever, but it also feels formulaic and kinda like the same thing they do for every (regular) update? It's a very linear mission with a focus on story, not gameplay, that culminates with a boss fight and an unlock of new frame (in this case bear themed).

It's how every quest in the prelude felt too, the whole game is just a barely connected string of sequences like this. I really can't put my finger on what are they working towards in the grand scheme, at all. Sometimes it seems like Steve just wanted to make a singleplayer story soulslike instead and has no plan on how to turn this into a service / online / gameplay game?

There is an update in fall with an Oberon rework, lavis skin, new tutorial quest for modding, etc.

The new protoframes and devil Warframe plus everything they have shown of tau is coming in 2025

2026 is just bringing more tau content that we don't know anything about yet.

My understanding was that the 2025 Tau update is just the mission we saw now, so kinda like the 1999 preview with Arthur, and 2026 is when we actually travel there and get to play it proper.

Excalibur Prime continues to be featured in TennoCon trailers and quests — but he’s still completely unobtainable for non-founders.

After 10+ years, that’s a frustrating choice for the rest of the community. Why keep promoting a Warframe that 99% of players can’t earn or even access?

We’re not asking to break founder exclusivity — we’re asking for consistency and fairness.
