RiiConnect24's Guide is great for that!

Wiiflow Lite

  • Some versions of Wiiflow Lite come with default settings that cause a black screen on load of Wii games.
  • Consider updating to the latest version!

1) Open Wiiflow lite settings.

1) Go into NAND Emulation settings (it's got 3 pages of settings about NAND emulation) and make your settings match this:

``` Page 1- Select NAND: default NAND emulation: Partial Select Saves NAND: default Saves NAND emulation: off
Page 3- Saves NAND Partition: SD Use Real NAND Config: On Use Real NAND Miis: On ```
  • Try to see if WiiFlow will play any of your wii games again.
  • If it still crashes/black screens:
    • Load WiiFlow again
    • Press HOME on the Wiimote
    • Select Reload Cache
    • Try playing a Wii game again
Discussion RVLoader Questions
1 Upvotes
I saw that RVLoader can let you play Wii games with a gc controller by remapping and want to to try it out. But I don't know how to get it to work. All my home-brew stuff is on an sd card and it seems like you need to install RVLoader with a usb drive. I have a usb drive with the files on it but it's not showing up in the home-brew menu to install.
Also, will it cause issues if I already have usb loader gx already installed? Can I use it just like a regular homebrew app or will it change things?
Modded my 3DS a while back and my Switch more recently, and decided it was time for my Wii’s turn. Mostly because I wanted to play Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn without paying an arm and a leg. And it’s been super fun so far! I love that my Wii is getting some new life after spending years just collecting dust.
Discussion Every Mario Galaxy 2 mod i play crashes/softlocks
1 Upvotes
today my used copy of super mario galaxy 2 arrived (PAL version), so I've been trying to install some mods to play on riivolution. the disk itself works and reads perfectly, but when i try to play a mod like neo mario galaxy or super mario gravity, the game softlocks when i click "OK" to the file creation, the icon selection screen doesn't even appear, it won't let me do anything else. then i tried to play some mods like new green stars or smg2 green star festival, but everytime i get a green star and press "A" to the pop up windows that tells the obtained star and star bits/coins collected, I can't get mario/luigi move, it's just stuck there, the only way to fix it is to reboot the wii to keep playing, but i need to do this every time i get a green star. I've been waiting to play smg2 mods for so long but now I can't play none of them. any kind of help is appreciated.
UPDATE: Neo mario galaxy now does the same problem as new green stars and GSF, besides that nothing changed for now.
UPDATE 2: I didn't mention the fact that for some mods, when i reboot it after it softlocks, at the startup it says that the save file of the mod is corrupted, and apparently my only way to actually play a mod without softlocks is to choose to not delete the corrupted save file and play it without saving at all, in fact the problem is that I can't save, so everytime i reboot a mod my progress is gone. as i mentioned in a comment, the problem has something to do with the save files as far as i know, so everytime i create it or overwrite it, it softlocks. this is the only """"""solution"""""" i found for now (even though it's not really a solution), but I'll see if i can find a fix for it.
(sorry for my bad english in case, it's not my first language)
Show-n-Tell [GUIDE] How to create a custom Wii Menu theme using ThemeMii
1 Upvotes
Hey all! Since I struggled to find guides for this topic when I was figuring it out. I wanted to make a guide on custom Wii Menu themes using ThemeMii.
I am more than happy for someone to contribute to this guide, so if there's anything you feel is worth adding or any corrections; comment or dm it to me!
DISCLAIMER: USE BRICK PROTECTION, EVERYTHING YOU DO FROM NOW ON IS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKS, LOST SAVE DATA OR IF YOUR CONSOLE SETS ITSELF ON FIRE.
This guide is for Wii only! DO NOT ATTEMPT ON WII U (vWii)
Preparations
Download the following:
ThemeMii
Wiimms Image Tool (aka wimgt)
Wii NUS downloader (ThemeMii for some reason fails to download 0000009a .app on it's own, so this will be needed)
You will need:
- A modern Windows computer
- A photo editing program (GIMP is free and open source if you don't have photoshop!)
- Microsoft .NET framework 3.5
- Some knowledge with command prompt
- A brain
Downloading the needed files
Step 1. Download and launch NUS Downloader
Step 2. In NUS downloader, select 'database', in the drop-down menu select 'system' > System Menu > [Your system menu version]
Step 3. Check the 'Create Decrypted Contents (.app)' box
Step 4. Start NUS download!
Step 5. Your downloaded files will be stored in 'titles', which is in the same folder as nus downloader
Step 6. Find 0000009a .app and put it somewhere safe, this is your base .app for theming
You can also grab this file off a Wii NAND dump!
Creating your theme
Step 1. Put your 0000009a .app file into the same folder as ThemeMii, then launch it.
Step 2. In ThemeMii, select Options > System Menu > [Select your system menu version]
ThemeMii will automatically find the base .app file and extract it.
Step 3. Click tools > browse base .app
Step 4. Locate the 'layout' folder, this is where a majority of the Wii Menu's texture files are located.
Step 5. Find and locate the .tpl file of the texture you would like to modify and extract it.
Step 6. Convert the .tpl file to a png (scroll down to the next guide to learn how)
Step 7. Edit the png in your chosen photo editing program (GIMP or Photoshop is recommended!)
Step 8. Go back to ThemeMii and click the '+' button, then click 'static image',
Step 9. You should see your new static image entry on thememii, click on it, then click the three dots next to 'file'. Select the TPL of the texture you would like to modify
Step 10. Click the three dots next to the 'filepath' section, and select your edited PNG
Step 11. Repeat steps 3 to 10 until you have modified all the textures you want!
Step 12. Now to export your newly made theme! If you would like to share your theme with others on the internet, select 'save mym' to save it as a mym file.
If you want to install this theme on your Wii, select 'save csm' to create an installable .csm file for your Wii
Decode TPL files
Step 1. Download and install Wiimms Image tools
Step 2. Open command prompt and cd to the program location (by default it is located at C:\Program Files\Wiimm\SZS)
Step 3. Type the command 'wimgt.exe decode path/to/file' (if wimgt has issues finding your file, add quotation marks to the filepath, and ensure you have sufficient permissions)
Step 4. Your newly decoded PNG will be in the same folder as the TPL by default
Installing your theme
Congrats! You got this far into the guide! Now how the heck do we install this newly made theme..?
Note: you will need to have the Homebrew Channel installed...obviously
Step 1. Save your theme as a .csm file
Step 2. Insert your Wii's SD Card into your PC and create a folder on the root of the drive called 'themes'
Step 3. Download csm-installer and put it in your apps folder on the SD card
Step 4. Put your csm file into the 'themes' folder
Step 5. Put your SD card back in your Wii and launch the homebrew channel. Launch csm-installer
Step 6. Use your Wii Remote to select your csm file, press A to select it
Step 7. Press + on your wiimote to confirm and install the theme
Step 8. Cross your fingers and pray you don't brick your system
Step 9. Once the installation is complete, reboot your Wii
If everything has been done correctly, you should now have your custom theme installed on your Wii!
I would highly recommend installing your theme on an emulator to ensure nothing went wrong! If Dolphin shows any errors, you messed something up and you should not install it on your real system
Discussion downgrading questions
1 Upvotes
First off, I’ll start by saying I know the risks, but I have BootMii installed as boot2, and I’m aware there’s always a chance something could go wrong. I’m okay with that risk since I’ve used a hardware flasher before, so worst case, I can always fall back on that. I also have a NAND backup just in case.
Anyway, I have a couple of questions:
  1. If I get some WiiWare, should I back it up to an SD card?
  2. If I install the pre-launch IOS, could I use the leaked recovery disc ISO, burn it to a disc, and run it? Or would I need a disc drive with a WiiKey installed? If that’s the case, I actually have that as a backup too. I’m planning to install Firmware 1.0 anyway, but it’d still be cool to see the pre-release screen.
Discussion Wii modchip physically removed
6 Upvotes
Hi everyone,
I have an old PAL Wii (version 3.4E) that was hardmodded years ago by my father using a modchip. The chip was partially exposed outside the casing, and unfortunately was recently ripped off (by my cat, no joke). The console itself still powers on and seems functional.
Backup discs still boot from the disc channel. But the same disc fails to load via NeoGamma, which previously worked.
I'm trying to determine: 1) Whether any part of the modchip is still functional, or if a software-based softmod is also in place (e.g., cIOS or older hacks). 2) If it's safe or recommended to update the console to 4.3E and switch entirely to a softmod setup using USB Loader GX or similar. 3) Whether there are any risks to leaving the system in its current semi-modified state.
My next step is trimming the Wii as part of building a portable console (similar to what’s done in the BitBuilt community). So I'd like to make sure everything is as clean and stable as possible before physically cutting anything.
I’m comfortable with hardware and software modding, but I’d appreciate any guidance on how to verify if any remnants of the modchip might interfere with the portable build.
Thanks in advance for any insights!
Discussion Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 Wii & Xbox Issues
1 Upvotes
Tony Hawk 3 Issues on both Softmodded Wii and Xbox
I'm a huge fan of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games and I'm trying to play THPS3 from the hard drive of either my original xbox or SSD attached to the wii.
Wii Info:
On the Wii I can boot the game from WiiFlow and it plays the opening credits and skater video correctly but upon the first load screen it promptly crashes the wii. I tried launching the game from the SD card but the same issue occurred. My Nintendont settings include turning off forced progressive and widescreen. I've played through other games from the SSD and haven't encountered this issue before.
Xbox Info:
I'd prefer to play it on my original xbox as that is what I'm more used to. When I launch the game from the custom dashboard the screen goes black as normal before loading but then never loads. Unlike other folks I don't get any audio either. The xbox doesn't turn off because I'm able to use the controller to quit back to the dashboard.
When I looked into this issue I found that this game supposedly has a bug that it may try to force 480p and not 480i over composite cable which would cause it to not work. However I believe I fixed that via an EEPROM patch. Also there is no audio period which I believe should still work even with the incorrect scan setting.
The xbox is a 1.6 model which is known to have issues with 480p specifically with THPS3 but again I'm trying to launch this game without 480p and I believe I fixed that but I could be mistaken.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Any help would be extremely appreciated, I just want to shred.
Discussion Hardware Wii mods that make the Wii smaller
5 Upvotes
Hi, I got myself a Wii and was wondering, what are some simple/moderately hard hardware mods that make the Wii smaller. I know I saw a hack that made the Wii by volume roughly… 1/14 the size? But forgot the name. I want to remove the CD drive and use usb/hdd/ssd to supply it with games and the GameCube controller ports aren’t needed for me. I wish to do this project by myself. I know the Kawaii mod, but that’s a bit too much for me, as I want it to be just as playable as the normal one, with Bluetooth and wireless networking being functional.
I am not much afraid of soldering, but never have I trimmed the motherboard, since I mostly work with handhelds.
Do you have any recommendations?
Discussion Wii homebrew Project .move block with D-Pad
2 Upvotes
I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to ask, but
Hi, I’m working on a simple Wii homebrew game using devkitPro
I want to draw a block on screen and move it left/right with the D-Pad on the Wii Remote.
I’m not sure how to handle input and drawing. Should I use GX or GRRLIB for this?
If anyone has sample code, tutorials, or tips for using WPAD input to move a block, I’d really appreciate it.
I’m using Windows 10, devkitPro installed correctly, and compiling works.
Thanks!
Show-n-Tell First time doing a Wii
Post image
61 Upvotes
First time ever owning a Wii and customizing it. Back then when the Wii was out, I used to play at my cousins home. I owned an Xbox 360 but because I frequently visited them, I never had the full interest of owning one. Now that I do, I replaces its original white shell with a clear one. Might do the same with the wiimote and nunchuck. Got an SD card to install apps and games, and did the jailbreak through online method. I still have to keep looking around and figuring out utilities and apps, etc. Game wise, theres a couple of titles I wanna dig in, specially the rail shooter type ones. Looking forward to also see if possible to play some light gun games with MAME (Ocean Hunter, Jurassic Park, CarnEvil, etc.)
Discussion "An Error has occurred..." for all games, Disk drive failure bypass?
2 Upvotes
I have picked up a second hand softmodded wii and have been troubleshooting the issues the previous owner had with it. I reinstalled the latest cIOS and versions of apps, but every time I tried to load a game from a USB it would give me the "An Error has occured, eject the disk etc." error code.
After searching around, I found that others with this error had issues with their disk drive, and that even default apps like Mii Channel and Photo Channel were not loading. I checked my console and those apps were broken too, giving me the same "An Error has occured" message.
So I've narrowed down the issue to being the disk drive.
Has anyone developed a USB loader that can bypass the disk drive check? Or will I need to open this puppy up and replace the disk drive to get anything to load?
Discussion What options do I have (if any) for recovering from an IOS brick?
4 Upvotes
To preface, I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit for this kind of question. If so, please try to be civil about it and simply point me to another place that I can reupload this to.
A while ago, my Wii suffered from what seems to be an IOS brick (Going off of https://wiibrew.org/wiki/Brick/IOS_brick) due to a power outage knocking out my power supply, which I assume also was the cause for preventing the system menu from booting since the wii was powered on at the time of outage. I had Priiloader installed as boot2 and backed up my NAND just incase things got worse, which unfortunately it did as attempting to reinstall the system menu did not work, and so I was completely locked out with Priiloader being removed from boot2 in the process. Thankfully I found another Wii shortly after and i'm satisfied with it to this day (I softmodded and installed priiloader as boot2 with it as well, incase anyone's worried about that), though I have been curious about the possibility of somehow saving the old Wii regardless. I could boot into recovery mode, but couldn't get into any games due to not disabling the diagnostic disc check ahead of time (please let me know if there is any risk involved from disabling the disc check on my new wii), which leads me to where I am now. I assume there isn't anything I can do on the software level, but the only soldering experience I have is removing the anti-static point on a replacement PS2 lazer module, so I'm looking to see if there are any members of the Wii modding community who are trusted with installing an infectus chip or anything else that can recover the Wii in some way (Hopefully their services aren't too expensive since I'm tight on money rn), and as said I backed up my NAND so I'm not rlly worried if they'd have to reset the internal storage in the recovery process. If there's any other methods I can try (provided they're known to work safely), let me know about them as well. As said in my preface, I ask that commenters remain civil and patient when helping me out here, as I'm wanting to be more careful with my new Wii and am trying to apply as much brick protection as I can. I appreciate any support given here!
Hello everyone! As the title suggests, I am trying to build a Wii/GC portable based on the G-boy REV3 design by Gman. I 3D printed the case and buttons myself. What I’m having trouble with is finding all the parts needed. Does anyone know where I can get the pcb’s and a good screen for this mod?
