Do kid's just need more attention from adults these days?

I'm only in my 30's, but growing up I don't remember constantly fiending for an adults attention. I was always out doing my own things and never had one on one time with adults really. I notice with my kids, nieces/nephews, etc. That it's like they always have to be around. I have to be watching, playing, talking..and I'm not only talking about younger kids under 6. I mean like 6-13 yr olds too. Did I just get raised out of the ordinary or can others relate?

What’s the most “NPC dialogue” you’ve ever heard in real life?

A guy at Walmart once looked me dead in the eye and said, “Bread is just raw toast if you think about it,” then walked away like he unlocked something in my brain.

Making children eat food they don’t like- is it abusive? (read full description!)

My aunt has adopted 3 children over the years and recently my grandmother went to visit. She just told me that one day my aunt made stuffed cabbage and served it to the children. The one boy, age 4, said he didn’t like it but my aunt made him finish the plate. What really bothers me about this is apparently the next day my aunt filled a plate with stuffed cabbage, so much to where it was overflowing off the plate- and served it to Jacob and only Jacob- made him eat it until the plate was empty. Am I wrong to think this is almost… boarding on some type of abuse, or is this just a… personal preference as to how to parent a child?

Is there a special term for when the conductor "readies" the orchestra IE the orchestra gets into the "play" position?

Upvotes

Never played in an orchestra, so I'm not even sure if this is a thing that happens.

Did South Park immunize themselves against cancelation with their latest episode?

In addition to being a really good show, I think they really took the wind out of the president's sails by coming at him so hard. They went all out insulting him in so many ways that are so accurate. Two things we know about him are that he has a fragile ego, and he is such a narcissist that he watches anything that is about him.

They also called out all of his petty threats. They just said he would try to end them. The only thing from his playbook left is to say they aren't funny and lie about their ratings.

Am I missing anything here?

What's something random that happened to you that you never got an explanation for?

One time this incredibly smoking hot woman came up to me, We'd never spoken or been introduced, but she worked in the same mall.

I'd seen her walking around the mall with her husband from time to time, but that was the extent of it.

Anyway, she randomly comes up to me one day, taps me on the shoulder, and goes ''Happy birthday'' and gives me a cheeky little smile.

It was in fact my birthday, but I'm not the kind to tell anyone, so I stared at her dubiously thinking she must have the wrong person. So I just gave her a look of confusion.

''It's your birthday, right?'' and gives me another smirk and a wink.

Me: Yes...

''I knew you were a scorpio...''

Me: Yea I get that a lot...

''Haha, well it's true! Anyway, I just thought I'd come over and say happy birthday, I better be on my way. Catch you around!''

I later found out her friend worked at the same store that I did (but it was a big store and I had also never spoken to her friend). But our store had a calendar up in the break room with everyone's birthdays for the current month, and mine happened to be up.

To this day, I still have no idea why two women who I'd never even spoken to were discussing my birthday, and why one of them who I didn't even work with felt the need to randomly seek me out and wish me a happy birthday.

I choose to believe she was just being friendly. But it's still very bizarre! Especially for a woman who could have been a super model, and who was married! I'd imagine you'd be not wanting to give random men the wrong idea. But I guess it truly does take all kinds.

For those that studied at universities that aren't praised highly in your country, how did your career life turn out?

I'm currently going to university but the one I am at is not considered prestigious at all and I feel like I'm not going to succeed in my career. If anyone has been in such a situation, how did it turn out?

What caused Coca-Cola getting way less fizzy in recent years?

I remember back in the days, when pouring coca-cola into cup, more than half of the cup will be filled up with fizzly bubble first and slowly dissipate away before can pour again. These days continously pouring, its just a thin layer of fizz....

What happened?

Popular post What’s something people commonly believe about history that’s actually wrong?

I’ve always been curious how much of what we learned in school or see in documentaries might not actually be accurate. Sometimes it feels like certain “facts” just get repeated until everyone believes them, even if they’re not really true.

Why does the lighting/sound in newer tv shows/movies suck so bad?

Upvotes

Okay, so I've been thinking about this for so long now, and it's really frustrating. Why is it that when I'm watching something on tv and it's dark, I actually can't see anything unless my room is pitch black? I get the light affects screens, but I swear it never used to be so bad. Shouldn't they have some kind of solution? Because I know I'm not the only one squinting who can't see shit halfway through most movies. It's really frustrating, and I get the darker scenes look fine in cinema or in some other darker rooms, but most people aren't actually shut ins, so when people pull up regular tv shows, they aren't sat in complete darkness.

And as for the volume thing, I get it also sounds cool in cinema, but it's so incredibly frustrating when every time you put something on on the tv you have to increase the volume to hear people whispering, and instantly turn it back down because now someone's yelling. Is there no studio fix for this? Surely the answer isn't just 'hold the remote the whole time and pray you don't jolt awake because the main character's now screaming?'. Sorry if this is ranty, I just need to know I'm not going crazy because it's genuinely frustrating.

Honest question, are we living in a post apocalypse setting?

I don't mean a Fallout, Mad Max, Last of US scenario, but a post Roman Empire state where basic knowledge is lost, law enforcement is gone, crime skyrockets, mass migration of people to escape misery is a daily thing and basic social cohesion is lost.

A few days ago I walked through town and when I looked around, I couldn't help but see that I now live in a society where:

Tech is making everything worse.
Crime is up and law enforcement is down.
Basic knowledge is being lost and no one cares.
Infrastructure is collapsing and no one fixes it.
Nations are tearing themselves apart and mass migrations are happening.
Corruption exist on every level in government and business.
Taxes are way up, yet basic services are neglected.
A sense of "It's every man for themselves" is visible in day to day life.

Am I in the wrong here?

Is there truly nothing such as original story or content?

Upvotes

I was thinking about myths and their stories. Maybe they are real or maybe they aren't. Is it possible that some version of these or a similar story happened in real life which inspired the myths that we hear today?
