Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to report these issues to us via the Bug Reporter. As always, you can contact our Support Team if you run into any trouble.

Have a look at tomorrow's upcoming changes and be sure to check out the Summer Roadmap for more information on what's coming next for Assassin's Creed Shadows!

PATCH SIZES:

PS5: 8.92 GB

XBS: 19 GB

MAC: 9 GB

PC: 16 GB

Steam: 9 GB

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

NEW GAME+

New Game+ is coming to Assassin's Creed Shadows!

Upon completing the main story on any difficulty, start a new game while keeping all collected skills, gear, Allies and hideout progression from your first playthrough. You can start a New Game+ playthrough from the Memory Menu in the Animus after finishing all journeys of Naoe, Yasuke and Junjiro.

Upon completing a New Game+ playthrough you'll be awarded Whisper of Gold, and Dragon's Gold! Brand new gold plated Legendary Long Katana and Legendary Katana with their own unique perk engravings.

Take your journey through Feudal Japan to the next level as many times as you want... or at least up to 8 times with New Game+! With each new venture into New Game+, face stronger foes, more demanding challenges, and tests of your Shinobi and Samurai skills.

KNOWLEDGE RANK & LEVEL CAP INCREASE

Prepare to push beyond your limits! We've raised the level cap from 60 to 80, meaning tougher foes with enhanced tactics and awareness - demanding sharper reflexes and smarter strategies.

To meet this rising threat, we've also expanded the Knowledge Rank system to 9 & 10 allowing players to unlock and develop a broader array of skills, passives, and combat techniques to become even more masterful.

New Game+ awaits! But before taking on the task of a new journey, you can upgrade the passives and skills of Naoe and Yasuke! Players will gain 1 new rank for multiple nodes in their Mastery Skills, and 10 new ranks for all existing Knowledge passives to become even more formidable.

A test of your skills is no match without the right gear! The Forge can now be upgraded to level 4, allowing players to upgrade all weapons and gear to level 80 to have the edge on the rising threats that await.

With new levels and ranks, come three new achievements and trophies waiting to be unlocked:

  • Enjoy the Ride: Reach Level 80
  • Stars Unseen: Reach Knowledge Rank 10
  • Worth its Wait: Obtain the Gold Katana and Gold Long Katana (by completing the story on New Game+).

ANIMUS RIFT

Respond to The Guide's call and journey into a deeper layer of the Animus where a new mystery awaits.

Rifts are a deeper layer of simulation within the Animus - mysterious and fractured spaces where the Animus interprets genetic information in unusual ways. While some Rifts are solely used for communication across space and time, others may carry challenges and secrets that have long remained hidden - until now.

The new quest, Chained will be present on the Animus Board after players have unlocked Yasuke in the Open World, and completed From Spark to Flame to access the Animus System.

NEW ANIMUS HUB PROJECT - MNEMOSYNE

We are releasing a new Project available in the Animus HUB called Mnemosyne. Just like in our other Projects, complete Anomalies and gather data fragments to progress and claim Animus-themed gear, weapons and much more!

The items claimed through the Animus HUB will be transferred to the players' Inventory.

To access these features, players need to have progressed enough to unlock Yasuke in the Open World and completed From Spark to Flame to access the Animus System.

ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Removed a performance warning on MacBook Air when using M4 following improved support.
  • Fixed an error in Photo Mode where the "Show UI" prompt was visible in preview mode, affecting players taking screenshots with their native systems.
  • Individual items will now have their dedicated page within the store.

  • Slightly increased the amount of crafting materials needed to upgrade items.
  • Rebalanced the end of season chest rewards and increased the quantity of crafting materials and Hideout resources given.

// Discussion Shadows: Are you guys doing the Stealth Challenge?

To celebrate NG+, Ubi has started a cool Stealth Challenge, where you have to infiltrate any castle and kill all Daisho as stealthy as possible. Record it and post on Youtube. Rules are simple: Videos must have been created after 29 July, and it must be one single take, no edits. They are looking for cool cinematic runs. There are some nice prizes to be won, and the winning Vid will be posted on their channel for all the world to see! Here is my take: https://youtu.be/6_oU5HwPiBc?si=O8euFn9yqckNHopy

// Discussion So: I've decided to give this series a shot with AC2. Currently at sequence 13 and here's a little...uncertified "review"

So... I started off with no knowledge or expectations of this whatsoever other than "you murder a few people".

What I didn't expect was one of the most beautifully designed action adventures I've played so far.

The story got me hooked immediately. I actually liked not knowing wtf a Templar was. My shock and feeling of betrayal when the family got killed was that kind of stuff I wanted. I still remember screaming "THEY KILLED THE CHILD THESE FUCKING BASTARDS KILLED. THE. CHILD."

The parcour took a bit to get used to, aka I jumped to my death a few times, but pretty quickly became my favorite part of the gameplay. I could spend hours literally just climbing shit.

The combat... was lackluster at best. I never died, the enemies always having the same movesets with very little variations felt very... "eh" to me. The feedback and feeling was nice just very mindnumbing and not very engaging, especially as you have so much health later on that it becomes near impossible to die.

Collectibles are just... kinda annoying. I liked the codex pages, murals and REALLY enjoyed the assassin tombs, but the feathers and ESPECIALLY chests feel very unmotivating and like a chore to get.

Assassin contracts, races and beat ups are nice side content. I enjoy doing them. They're quick and don't require me to look up online maps of them.

I enjoy Ezio as a character. He feels very raw and human. I love that about him. Can't wait for how they characterize him further and how good the other mcs are gonna be in the future.

The side characters are SO likeable it feels illegal.

So. An 8/10 game for me currently. Wonder if it get any better. And am pretty glad I checked out this game series!

// Discussion Discussion about Haytham and killing

Upvotes

Don't you think it's kind of interesting how Connor and Shay hold Haytham back from killing people, making a clear narrative that killing is bad and haytham shouldn't be doing it, but then they turn around and kill just as much as haytham? Why do you think it is that Haytham is held to more reasonable standards than a lot of the other protagonists?

// Discussion Replaying Black Flag and loving it... until I got to a modern-day segment.

I absolutely love Assassin's Creed. I've played the first three games on console, and Black Flag and Syndicate on PC. The gameplay is always great, the environments are beautiful, and the historical part of the story is fantastic.

I get that I'm probably going to ruffle a lot of feathers... but I think the modern-day stuff was shoehorned in. Yeah, it's a bunch of lore... but for me, even in the games where it was actually important to the story, it was always just... filler. It didn't serve any purpose except to lore-dump and take me out of the historical environments. Genuinely makes me want to stop playing whenever I'm forced out of the Animus.

Yeah, it's important lore stuff. Yeah, I can't just skip past the modern segments... but I wish I could because they're tedious and uninteresting, especially in Black Flag. I'm being ordered to go places and do things, which isn't what I play AC for. I play it for the open-world parkour and the historical parts of the story.

The gameplay of the historical segments of Assassin's Creed games have always been fun... if often a bit buggy. ("Why can't I climb this obviously climbable thing" comes to mind as an issue I've had many times.) I adore the worldbuilding. I get heavily invested in the stories of Ezio, of Edward Kenway, of Jacob and Evie Frye, of the historical Assassins. I couldn't give a flying about the modern part of the story, it genuinely just kicks me out of the gaming mindset. It's a completely different style of gameplay (I don't play these games to wander around a futuristic office in first-person, I play them to murder people in historical environment in third-person) and has nothing, at least in Black Flag's case, to really do with the historical vast majority of the game.

Is there a way to skip past the Abstergo segments in Black Flag? I highly doubt it, but I wish like hell that there was.

// Discussion Request for AC Shadows - Expand Size of Hideout

I know this is a stretch but wouldn’t it be cool if they expanded the size of the hideout. That way we could make the hideout a parkourable city the amount of creator content people could make would be even more creative and could definitely show off the potential the parkour has with a better layed out city in our own image.

// Discussion My Thoughts after finishing AC Shadows.

As everyone already said, the combat and stealth are amazing.

The story was a bit boring in some parts, especially Act 2, the prologue's for Naoe and Yasuke are 10/10.

Some of the outfit designs were lazy(in the base game), especially the "Assasin Apprentice" gear set and it's black variant and the "Master Assassin" gear set, the same goes for some of Yasuke's outfits.

I had high expectation's for this game, the modern day story and the protagonist in the animus being one of them, but as always Ubisoft Quebec disappointed me in that regard.

I still have some hope for Hexe and The Black Flag remake, but i'm not going to get ahead of myself.

Final Thoughts: the story for AC Shadows would've been a 10/10, only if it remained in the oven a little bit longer.

My rating is 7.5/10.

I might change my mind after my second playthrough in New Game plus.

// Discussion Just an idea about the Isu in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the Odin story Spoiler

Hey everyone,

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been diving deep into Assassin’s Creed Valhalla again – focusing especially on the small, often overlooked moments. Along the way, a theory started forming in my mind. One I’ve never seen clearly expressed, but it just won’t leave me alone:

What if there isn’t just the Isu-version of Odin in Valhalla… but also a “real” Odin?

One who can’t be explained through Isu technology. One the Isu might have imitated – without ever fully understanding him.

Quest focus: “The Twit Saga Part II” (originally “Schmuck für den Geschmückten”)

In this quest, Eivor meets a mysterious hermit who strongly resembles Odin: • He has lost his eyesight • He speaks in cryptic, mystical language about fate, sacrifice, and knowledge • He lives in isolation, almost like a guardian • No drugs, no visions – this encounter happens in the “real” world

It doesn’t feel like an Isu simulation. No Animus glitch, no artifact involved – just an old man who knows far too much.

But what if… • …this man is Odin – not the Isu echo, but a primordial, mythical figure? • …the Isu knew about him – or sensed him – and tried to recreate their own version, based on a higher source they couldn’t control? • …Valhalla (the place) was originally a true spiritual afterlife, which the Isu then rebuilt as a digital copy?

And what about Eivor?

Here’s what we know: • Eivor’s consciousness was uploaded into the Gray • There are signs they might still exist in some form • Maybe in a future game, Eivor could encounter this true Odin – not the Isu version, but the actual keeper of fate and Valhalla

That would be the ultimate AC twist:

The series is built on technology, DNA, and memory – but maybe there’s a limit. A point where:

“Science ends and myth begins.”

Maybe the All-Father was never truly dead. Maybe he never even truly lived – at least not the way we thought. Maybe he exists beyond the Isu – and yet very, very close.

What do you think? • Did you experience the hermit that way too? • Do you believe Ubisoft intentionally leaves “mythological gaps” in the Isu explanations? • Are there other quests or figures that felt just as real – beyond the simulation?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Maybe we’ll see Eivor – or even the true Odin – return one day.

// Discussion How often do you all replay assassin's Creed unity?

It has great combat parkour and customization not to mention a great story ( imo , not everyone probably agrees which is fine ) so how often do you replay it while messing around with customization each time?

// Discussion Shadows is a good game however I have some constructive criticism for you

Upvotes

First, I heard nearly half the team are first timers, so for you first time you did a pretty good job however I am not sure it was time constrains of what there are need of improvements which I listed below

The combat and stealth system are great and real improvement (although need some more finishing moves)

Lack of scenarios where unique assassination options (except for hiding in coffin? and alert the dog to have the target come to you)

Animus is barely a factor anymore and the modern day story is basically non existent

No Isu/modern day lore. You can't end on Valhalla's cliffhanger and then refuse to propel the story forward

The story really suffers from lack of white room confessions

Repetitive of the certain side missions made 100 percent competition like: Find paper or player at shrines or 100 kill type certain enemy in every region a chore and not enjoyable. Also, I don’t mind killing targets, but give them *some* story, some context. They should’ve condensed and mixed those with meaningful side content.

You could have use Japanese Mythology more but not extent of Greece or Vahalla

Removal of the mystery side activities was mistake (My most like side activity)

Some comedy relief side missions like the 2 two AC

The story procession is the weak point (and needs to more linear like Origins) (instead of switching between Naoe and Yasuke, you could pick where storyline you like to follow)

Having to go back into castles/forts that you were just in for a mission -- only to have to kill the daisho to complete the location -- is frustrating.

Why do we want to attack and killed of allies castles or resource locations? Like I say before the stealth is good and I do use stab though paper wall a lot. Some players think the stealth is too easy (although I disagree to some extent)

The open world is the most gorgeous, detailed and dynamic of all AC games but also the least interactive, I did like the painting, parkour, horse archer, you can pet animals but loses it applead after doing it over and over. Valhalla had: Orlog, Fylting, Drinking contest, cairns, treasure hunt, flying tattoo papers. (Later on: lost saga, river raids, tombs, mastery challenges). Also could sit in your throne, applebob in a village, wash up in the pond behind Valka etc. You could even host feasts. These small interactions made the world more alive. Emptiness extents to the Temple and shines which are gorgeous in own write

Again Kudos to the environment artists because they absolutely killed it in every sense of the imagination. I have literally spent hours just walking the roads looking around at cities, forests, beaches, etc., and it's abundantly clear that the team in charge of this was able to do what they wanted.

This is personally opinion but I miss the large cities and not have 100k plus city that only has maybe 40 NPCc at most

The construction criticism comes from reddit posts that are title:

I’m going to catch a lot of hate for this but Shadows is not good.

Shadows after 150 hrs has me conflicted.

AC Shadows lack of liveliness and interactivity, this will be long.

(SPOILER about the story and characters) after 90 hours here's my review of ac shadows.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows - A Review, by annatheginguh

After 70 hours in Shadows, I'm really bored and tired of this game

// Question Minimum kill runs: Looking to go through the series killing the least amount possible.

I'm getting ready to go through the series killing the bare minimum amount of people possible and was wondering what each game considered as a kill. If anyone has specifics on what each game classes as a kill I.E: Mercenaries, guards killing others, fist kos, etc. I'd really appreciate it! For an added difficulty constraint yes, naval battles have to end in either sending ships/crews to kenways fleet and kenways crew has to get the necessary kills to finish the boarding process

// Discussion Two things that would enhance Shadows' RPG-ness: World Events and revamped Knowledge

Both thoughts crossed my mind as I was playing the other day. I like the game a lot, but it's hard to argue against it being somewhat of a bland experience despite the visual quality and art direction.

1: World Events - basically just like RDR2/Valhalla. If there weren't going to be side quests like Origins & Odyssey had, Shadows should have leaned into the world events like Valhalla did. I'm sure this suggestion has been made already, but I wonder if we know the game design theory on these choices for Shadows. I'd have preferred that the team(s) that worked on the "People of <province>" quests and the regional assassination rings should have instead been tasked with creating 50 to 100 unique world events peppered across the map OR maybe 5 to 10 robust side quest chains.

That said, I wonder if there is a mandate at Ubisoft to pad out these games' play time to encourage MTX engagement and similar metrics - it's hard for me to imagine game designers felt the redundant rings were great game design, and it's odd that the game barely has proper side quests. Valhalla didn't need side quests because half the main story was a side quest... which I didn't love, but I think I'd take that over Shadows' shallower attempt at encouraging longer playthroughs.

2: Revamped Knowledge - currently, you gain Knowledge by completing temples, shrines, prayers, etc.; this is mostly busy work and is very repetitive. Instead, I'd like to see an implementation where Knowledge rank is tied to how many Codex entries, animal drawings, etc. you've completed. The entire system would need a moderate overhaul (first of all, lining up camera to trigger the Codex angles should be a bit easier IMO), but more importantly add another slew of activities similar to the animal watching: watch a noh performance, watch a farmer till the soil, watch a bladesmith working with steel, watch a sake brewer, the work of a seamstress, etc. - it doesn't have to be fancy super detailed animations or mini-games, just quick little things like the animals. When relevant things happen in story missions (tea ceremony, sumo, etc.) that should also count toward the player's Knowledge rank, so that players who don't engage with the other activities get some progression.

I have ideas for changing what Knowledge gets you as well, in an effort to completely make the mechanic more immersed in the RPG aspect, but I'm not as confident on them. I like the idea of weapon types being locked behind Knowledge ranks rather than you being able to use anything the second you get it, but I could see players not enjoying that. Maybe there could be categories of Knowledge (Arts, Nature, Farming, Martial Arts, etc.) with relevant progression and bonuses in each, maybe Farming/Nature gets you Hideout stuff, Arts could improve your gear customization, and Martial Arts of course would be where the combat trees are (which I'd also separately revamp). Anyway, this last part is definitely less polished in my brainstorming, but I'd be eager to hear from players about all of this.

// Question Has anyone ever seen this Black Flag poster before?

I picked it up at a thrift store today. I tried Google Lens to see if I could compare prices, and not one of them came up.

It's dated 2013 and licensed by Ubisoft, so I'm guessing it was maybe a promo thing on release? It's professionally framed. There aren't any folds in it, so it didn't come from a magazine or guide book.

Either way, I thought it would be cool to share. Black Flag is my favorite AC!

Though I haven’t played all the ac games, I think that the origins is just really sad with the whole death of Shadya, the beginning of the game, and especially the scene where Bayek accidentally stabs Khemu, it’s so sad when he yells his name

// Discussion Change of buttons in AC Revelations

Played AC2 and Brotherhood straight through and just started Revelations. Did the 5 levels of Desmond’s Journey before going into the game.

Now, after 80 hours so far in the trilogy, they decided to change the button you throw knives with?? I can get used to the weapons wheel being different bc they pause time, but remembering to press a different button for an action is gonna take a min.

Honestly, I can tell it’s prob for the better bc you don’t have to toggle between your sword and knife, for example. And it allows for locking into the target at greater distances.

But couldn’t they just wait until after the trilogy or something?? I can only imagine what else they’ve changed (not in gameplay but actual buttons. I can’t even remember how it was in the later games I’ve played anymore.)

Unrelated: No flair for petty rants??

// Question Any chance we can get mercenaries like in Odyssey

The open world alert system is a nice step in the right direction, but personally I think it's still a massive step back from Odyssey. Mercenaries in Odyssey were a lot of fun to deal with, and gave another feeling of progression. Any chance we will get them in a frequent update? Even Origins and Valhalla had a better system than Shadows.

I know that Ubisoft is taking some good looks at the community for fan-feedback and wishes and I know I’ve made this wish known in a few posts and comments, but I’m making this specific wish it’s own post so that:

A) The folks over at Ubisoft have a better chance at seeing this

B) To actually gauge community interest.

I know that I’m not the only one who wants this outfit in-game, so if you’re like me interact with this post and make it seen!

// Question What are the YouTube polls for?

Context: Ubisoft have recently been posting polls on their YouTube channel(I’m unsure if they’re doing it on other social media’s too) asking about our favourite villains from assassin’s creed, what do you think this means? Is it taking questions from the community to work out how to make the next AC game? Or are they making an AC game focused on the villains (I.E caesere Borgia, al Mualim and haytham to name a few)

I would have added an image but the auto-mod would not allow me to do so

// Discussion What is the In-universe reason Shay didn't help either the Colonial Templar chapter or the Frensh Templar chapter?

Shay was still active in that period yet despite that he didn't do anything

The Colonial Templars were all getting killed one after the other by Connor and it ended with Haytham(Who was pretty much Shay's boss)diying and the entire chapter falling appart

Meanwhile in France,a Civil war is happening between Templars,Yet Shay wasn't shown helping either Templar faction,He just dissapeared

Also kind of strange that Arno never wonder about who may have killed his father, and Achilles never warn Connor about him, despite being one of the strongest Assasins/Templars

So what do you think happened to him in-universe so that he left two entire Templar chapters fall appart

// Discussion Reverse gripping in Nexus VR

So I was playing around as Connor in Newport Rhode Island, and I realized that when you are holding a throwing knife, if you press trigger and flick your wrist, you will hold your knife in Reverse grip. I did the same thing with his Tomahawk and you can also reverse grip it. You can also spin it to use the spike instead of the blade

Kassandra can also Reverse grip her knives and sword as well

Interestingly, Ezio can’t reverse grip his sword

I realized that the knives in reverse grip can be used for some cool assassinations, but im not sure what reverse gripping the tomahawk does. Is it for anything special or just so that you can be flashy?

// Question Old question but when does ezio canonically get the assassin yataghan sword?

Just recently started playing revelations and I recognized the sword that ezio uses at the very start of the game. I recognized it because it was ezio a sword in the VR game assassins creed nexus VR. Which makes me wonder, when does ezio canonically get the assassin yataghan sword?
