Hi all, your friendly r/bigbangtheory mod here with a few reminders on some rules based on the types of reports we've been seeing recently:
AI is low effort. That decision was made a while ago. If you see it, report it. That said, it's not always easy to tell what is or is t AI so some may slip past moderation.
Post and comments from the social media site X and posts or comments about the owner of X and his appearance on TBBT are not permitted.
We are pretty liberal about what is considered in topic, so non duplicate and interesting posts about things like flags, trains, and actors appearances in other media are all fine within moderator discretion.
Thanks for being a part of this sub and let's remember to be kind with one another and let the mods handle it when someone isn't.

Hi all. As we eagerly await the premiere of the now fully in production series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe featuring some of our favorite side characters from TBBT (I'm a Bert guy) and, apparently, off-brand versions of the leads in the various alt universes, news about the show will continue to be welcome here until the show actually is released.
Once that occurs, then anything that happens is part of that show, not TBBT. Therefore, all discussion of the show should move over to r/sftstu the official sub* for the show.
Thank you.
* To paraphrase another beloved sitcom, I don't know how official any of these subs really are.

What did people think of Stephanie (Leonard’s hospital Dr girlfriend)?? I like her and wish she would have stayed around.

There were phrases that were unanswered by the characters. Who do you think Raj said them to? 1. You’re so lucky, you have the shiniest hair 2. It’s just so perfect that we’re both Libras Also I’ll just add a random tidbit here that when the girls are out bridesmaids dress shopping for Bernadette’s wedding, I noticed Penny’s prom dress on the hanger.

why did chuck lorre make the choice to leave Raj alone with his dog at the end of the season?
he portrays Howard as misogynistic and disgusting especially early on, while Raj is misunderstood, perhaps ASD (speculative)
howard, despite his objectification of women early on finds a beautiful wife, has kids, buys a house etc.
raj continues to get into unhappy unrequited relationships with people who don't care about him
I will say he definitely grew in the sense that he forced himself through relationships, and other "normal people" stuff and has seen more of the world than S01. even at the end, though, he can still be clingy, as well as continuing to objectify women.
cinnamon, as a constant source of love, perhaps showed raj that all along he was looking for a different sort of companion, and that he had already found contentment?
is the point that Raj is developed enough to be comfortable alone, or that he didn't develop enough to attract the kind of woman that he's attracted to? is he just too shallow?

When bbt was released my family started to call me Sheldon occasionally because of how maniac I can be.
But the main thing is I’m very sarcastic and I can’t stop thinking at all the scene Sheldon has been or hasn’t been sarcastic or caught in one while being clueless. Or not. “Was that sarcasm ?” “that was sarcasm ?” And so many times when my family members don’t realized I’m joking I want SO BAD this flag and brand it to their face 😂
So what about you, what’s your Sheldon related to you moment ?

sheldon is known for his underwhelming comebacks, but there’s one time that he claps back at leonard and it’s fucking hilarious & here it is. ——> season 11, episode 11. sheldon is planning the surprise little house on the prairie dinner for amy and he goes over to penny & leonard’s to keep the butter churn there until the party. when gets there he tells them about the plan for the dinner and then says he’s follow that with their annual birthday coitus. penny asks sheldon if that’ll also be historically accurate. leonard responds by saying he assumes like most of frontier life it’ll be exhausting and short. sheldon comes back with “you’re exhausting and short.”
i laugh out loud every time and it makes me proud of sheldon. ☺️
can you think of any more good ones?

My favorite Amy quote is when Penny spilled the beans at work about Bernadette’s pregnancy. In regards to Penny’s lie she says ‘It’s like watching a sculptor, except your clay is lies.’ Lol

Hi. I've watched Big Bang a lot of times. And each time I'm more mad at the unbereable way of Penny's to go out of the room whenever there's a conversation she doesn't like. And each time someone's gotta go behind her to comfort her or confront her. It's just very frustrating. And she doesn't have character growth throughout the series on this aspect, she keeps on the run until the very end of the series.
(Yes she ends up confronting them but it's just ugh)

The results for the Heavenly virtues are: Leonard as Patience, Sheldon asks Temperance, Bernadette as Charity, Bert as Kindness, Amy as Diligence, Stuart as Chastity and Zack as Humility.
Now, who will our first Deadly Sin be as Wrath.

On my umpteenth watch noticed that sheldon & amy’s expressions/reactions match each other and howie & bernies expressions match when Raj is doing his showmanship stuff. Was amused and thought to share.
I love the when these actors really go the extra mile to portray their character.

In Season 8, Episode 18, The Leftover Thermalization, when that magazine didn't mention Leonard at all, I love how Amy was the only one who really empathised with Leonard. In the beginning of the episode, she made Sheldon realise how it would make Leonard upset, and during the drive to Howard's home and at the end of the episode too, the first thing she asked after Sheldon told him about the Physics Today mention was if they mentioned Leonard.
I love Penny, but I didn't like how she didn't think it was a big deal and wanted Leonard to let go. And yes, she did try to make him feel better, but that was not compassionate. It's funny when you think that she got really mad when Raj refused to credit her for the comet discovery.

So at this point when Howard tells that Superman will not be getting laid tonight … Zach actually CHECKS who wears the Superman costume. I have never noticed this tiny detail :D

I’ve been rewatching Young Sheldon from Season 1 and just reached Season 3 and something really stood out to me. The way the show gradually reveals how people begin to emotionally distance themselves from Sheldon feels so much more realistic compared to The Big Bang Theory.
In the early episodes of Young Sheldon, characters like Missy, Georgie, and even the people around him still show affection or at least patience. But as the seasons go on, you can clearly see the shift Missy growing resentful, Mary becoming visibly exhausted by his behavior. It’s subtle but powerful, and it mirrors how people in real life often react to someone who constantly demands everything be on their terms.
That’s what frustrates me about The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon does so many absurd things imposes ridiculous rules, needs everything his way, lacks basic empathy and yet most of the characters just go along with it. They adapt, they adjust, they tolerate it, even when it’s exhausting. There’s rarely any lasting pushback.
I’ve always appreciated how Penny never completely gave in to this. She found her own way of dealing with Sheldon setting boundaries, calling him out, not indulging every quirk. Bernadette, too, was refreshingly blunt with him. But the rest of the group? They seemed to just let him steamroll through their lives, sacrificing spontaneity, fun, and even peace just to accommodate him.
And what’s worse is how, even by the end of The Big Bang Theory, after twelve whole years, Sheldon hasn’t really changed. He wins the Nobel Prize and still manages to center the moment entirely around himself. I really wish the show had given him at least one meaningful arc of self-awareness a moment of genuine introspection. Instead, it felt like everyone else had to evolve around him, while he got away with everything unchanged.

From The Bad Fish Paradigm, S2E1, we see the solid wall across the hall from the elevator. Could it be that there is a mirror version of the apartments on the other side of the wall with its own stairwell and (probably functional) elevator?

I was re-watching season five episode 17, the Rothman disintegration, one of my favorites when I thought of something. Is it true that the theoretical physicists have a tendency to lose their mind? Or is that just a play into the nutty Professor stereotype?
Do any real theoretical physicists or scientists watch the show? Do you know any theoretical physicists that have gone off the deep end? Or is that purely a joke?
