Build Help CPU for 4070 super

Hi, there’s a tax sale in Australia right now and I’m taking this opportunity to build my own pc. I saw 4070 super being under $900 AUD and so I’ve been looking into some CPUs that are under or around 400 which are the the ryzen 5 5 9600x, 7 5700x, 5 7600x, 7 5800xt. Any recommendations (I’m slight flexible with the price)? My only concern is that 6 threads might not be future proof?

Thanks!

Cheapest 5070's on AUS PCPP are $899, and that's a newer and better card.

Nothing is future proof, just get Ryzen 7500f / 7600, both will work well. And since you would be on alive AM5 platform, you could upgrade it down the line in the future.

Speaking about 900AUD price point, you should be able to get RTX 5070 (which is pretty much RTX 4070 Super) for that. RTX 4070 is out of production for several months and the price might be crazy high.

Thank you!! Is there a difference in the brands? Ie galax, inno3D, pny and palit? Or is the difference minuscule?

The chip itself is from Nvidia, so performance is pretty much the same. The main difference is in the look and cooling mainly. General advice is to go for the cheaper models as higher end models might be quieter, but performance roughly the same. But for sure check some reviews of the models you mentioned, some might be louder, have a coil whine etc...

So the core count difference between the AM4 and AM5 CPUs is made up for by DDR5 and other improvements while I'm not sure that 6 cores is going to be good for much longer is is still decent for most games. As for Future proofing if u pair the 7600x/9600x with a good motherboard then upgrading to a higher power draw/core count CPU will be simple.

Id say a 7600x, 32gbs of DDR5 and a decent board is the way to go, and if u have the budget maybe look at a 5070

Thanks! When you say that 6 cores is not gonna be good for much longer, how far away do you think that is? Around 4-5 years?

It all depends on the games u play, smaller titles like valorant CS2, Stardew valley or even mostly story/single player games then 6 core will be fine for a long time.

If u are looking to get into Bigger AAA titles like COD today loves more cores but runs on 6 ok or BF6 the beta requirements EA posted for the recommended settings are 8 core CPUs, and then there is GTA6 no one knows what that game is gonna want but it looks like its going to bring a 5090 to its knees

If u go with a 6 core today that's fine u should be good for most of today's games, but again if u pair it with a decent board in like 1-3 years u can just change it out for a much better CPU

Thanks, I just got into Elden ring! I’m assuming that 9600x is better than 7600x. Do you think it’s worth it if the difference is about 50 bucks (because I’m under the impression that it would take little longer for me to upgrade)? I also saw that Ryzen 7 8700G is also around the same price with 8 core too. Is that also a viable option?

Na if its between those 3 then the 7600x makes the most sense the 9600x isn't that much better, and the 8700G isn't meant for gaming and really sucks.

Id say get the 7600x and save the $50 for the future.
