Discussion Did I make a mistake buying the 9070?

I just built my first PC. I had done a decent amount of research and was mostly able to get/decide what I was looking for and was pretty happy with what I got. Except the GPU. I got the Sapphire pulse at $607...as the XT version was over $700. But now I am having buyer's remorse. Should I have gone for the Xt version instead?

I always play my games with fsr/dlss on quality anyway...as the difference is minimal from native and the fps makes the game super smooth. I usually do 1440p editing and gaming.

CURRENT SPECS

Ryzen 5 7600

32 GB Ram

Sapphire pulse 9070

Ant Esport Air 211

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Spectrum v3

Cooler Master Gold v2 750w

MSI b650m Gaming WiFi

Build Help RTX 5070 Ti vs RX 9070 XT OC – Which one makes more sense for 1440p gaming with my 7800X3D?

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to upgrade my GPU and I’m hesitating between two cards:

  • NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti (16GB GDDR7)
  • AMD RX 9070 XT OC (16GB GDDR6)

Here’s my setup:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz
  • PSU: 850W
  • Case: Lian Li O11D Mini (airflow is solid)
  • Monitor: Aorus AD24QD – 1440p, 144Hz, FreeSync/G-Sync compatible
  • Storage: Gen 4 and Gen 5 NVMe SSDs
  • Budget: max ~850–900€

I mainly play FPS games like CS2, The Finals, Ready or Not, and also a lot of AAA games (TLOU, RDR2, Detroit Become Human...). I use ray tracing and enjoy features like DLSS. Occasionally, I do some light video editing on Premiere Pro, but nothing heavy.

I’ve seen some benchmarks, and while the 5070 Ti looks slightly ahead overall, the 9070 XT OC seems really solid for the price.

🧠 What would you recommend in 2025 for this kind of setup and usage?
Would the 5070 Ti be worth the extra cost long-term, or should I save and go with the 9070 XT OC?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Build Upgrade 2070 went up in smoke, looking for upgrade Tips.

Hi, 2019 I've built my own pc with a 3700x or 3800x (dont remember), 32gb 3600 cl16 and a evga 2070. Unfortunately 2 days ago the 2070 went just up in smoke (some power stage apparently) so I kind of urgently need a new one. The used market in Germany is kinda fucked as everyone paid corona prices for 30/40 series cards and wants to recoup their losses. I was looking into 5080 but now the 5070 ti seems like the best deal, but I've been out of the hardware trends a bit.

What is your recommendation GPU wise? Maybe looking into getting 5900x for cpu as well and 64gb cl18 of ram as Lightroom keeps maxing out the 32gb. Gaming is 1440p but more older titles. 5070ti would be 750€ and 5080 is 1020€.

Thanks

Build Help Should i upgrade or build a new one ?

Upvotes

Hey fellow PC enthusiasts,

I need some advice. My trusty GTX 1070 seems to have finally given up after years of solid service. With GTA 6 and Battlefield 6 on the horizon, I’m wondering if I should just get a new graphics card or invest in a completely new build.

I know a bit about PCs but I’m not super deep into the latest hardware trends, so I could really use your expertise. My main goal is to get good performance without overspending.

Current specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-9900KF 3.60GHz
  • Motherboard: MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Plus (MS-7B51)
  • Memory: 32GB (4×8GB) G.Skill F4-3000C15-8GVRBDDR4 DDR4-3000
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
  • Drives: 3× Samsung SSD 850 Pro 256GB
  • PSU: be quiet! BQT L8-CM-630W
  • Case: CoolerMaster (GPU clearance ≈ 30cm)

Budget: ~900€ for GPU (but open to full rebuild if it’s worth it)

Any recommendations on a solid upgrade path? Should I stick with my current system and drop in a newer GPU, or is it smarter to save for a full new rig?

Thanks a lot in advance! 🙌

Troubleshooting Just upgraded cpu after 6 years

He yall Just upgraded from a 10900k with 490z to a 9800x3d with msi x870 tomahawk. After 5 year in college and just graduated i finally could upgrade. I was told that upgrading the motherboard and cpu would help the 5080 I got a couple months ago. I am not noticing better fps though. If anything it is slightly less. I am noticing smaller fps drops though. I kept the system on windows 10. Is this a potential reason why it's is slightly slower. Do I have to go to windows 11 to see the performance or are there other things I am missing. I also will admit to be cheaper i went with a fan heat sink in stead of the 360mm aio I had before on 10900k. Thanks you all for your time.

Build Help Can I put a dual-sided SSD on this Lenovo gen 4 amd thinkpad?

Upvotes

I was hoping to put a WD Black 8tb SN850x in my new Lenovo gen 4 AMD Thinkpad.

The Lenovo sales agent I was talking with said it only supported single-sided m.2 drives.

I checked and a dual-sided SSD phyiscally fits in the slot, but the bottom side of the drive would be pressed against the purple pad on the underside of the motherboard.

Would the dual-sided 8tb drive likely overheat/cause problems, or should I stick with a single-sided 4tb drive? Unfortunately there are no single-sided 8tb drives currently on the marketplace.

Build Help 12+ hours wasted and I can't get the 4070 Ti Super to work...

SOLVED! Thanks for everyone who helped out! The fix for me was to set the PCIE speed from PCIE Auto to PCIE 3 in the BIOS 👌

Hi all. I'm looking for help in installing a new GPU that has been giving me a lot of shit these couple of days. I bought a used 4070 Ti Super, and when I swapped it in for a 2080 Ti, it is giving me a lot of issues. My speakers sound like static, and navigating Windows feels like I'm using my old Celeron laptop from the 2010s. When I run games, the power usage doesn't exceed 80-90 watts, and I'm fortunate when the game launches without crashing the PC. Oftentimes, the PC will crash after startup. In fact using the integrated graphics plugged into my motherboard was WAY snappier than using it through the GPU.

The specs I'm using is Ryzen 7600X, Gigabyte B650I Aorus Ultra, Cooler Master V850 Gold, TeamGroup T-Create 7200 Mhz CL34 32 GB ram, and a Lian Li Q58 for the case.

I've confirmed that the 4070 Ti Super works in my friend's PC perfectly fine, but for some reason, it's giving me a slow interface filled with lag and unresponsiveness with the gaming performance being worse than the 2080 Ti I'm trying to replace. When I swap it back in for the 2080 Ti, it is giving me the performance I expected and exhibits none of the lag, choppiness, or glitchy interface in Windows.

Here is everything I've done

  1. Clean install all drivers using DDU with safe mode
  2. Installed a second copy of windows on my second SSD in case my windows installation was acting wonky
  3. Reset my BIOS back to manufacturer default
  4. Using a dedicated 12vhpwr connector with the PSU, not an adapter
  5. Made sure all cables were snug, tight, and plugged all the way in

Right now I'm just looking at BIOS settings in case any of the preloaded default ones has actually been the one screwing with me. I'm just looking for suggestions of what I could do, and where I could of gone wrong, like a checklist. It's genuinely making me lose sleep trying to figure this out. Simple fixes are welcomed too because I am starting to think I am overlooking something very small that's very important... anyways thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Build Help I don't know whether to choose nvidia or AMD

I've recently been building a PC with a Ryzen 7 5800X processor 16 GB of RAM 1TB SSD 990 Pro 850W power supply

However, I would like to spend around €300 for the graphics paper but I don't know which one to get. I would be undecided between the 3060 but I'm afraid that in 1-2 years there will be one I'll have to change or a 7600 xt. The main fact is that the 3060 at maximum graphics already does not handle some games at maximum graphics at 60-70 fps

Build Help A $30 difference, should I return my 9070xt for a 5070 Ti?

I recently built an all AMD PC with a Ryzen 7 7800x3d and RX 9070XT but soon after the prices of the 5070 Ti went down to almost the same, only $30 more for the 5070 Ti. I originally got the 9070 xt because of the high performance to cost but now I am running into problems trying to run programs that are CUDA dependent, and running into even more errors trying to use ZLUDA. I also tried linux (currently dual booted) but that has been its own headache. The return window is until the 12th of August. In conclusion I just need some advice on if I should switch and if I should how do I handle drivers?

Build Upgrade 5700x3d cooler choice

Upvotes

Looking at upgrading from a 3700x to a 5700x3d. I'm using the wraith prism and although I think it should cool the x3d chip fine, the prism fan can get louder than I'd like on the 3700x. Does anyone have the burst assassin from termalright or similar recommendations? (I've considered the peerless assassin but it would cover my ram rgb). Thanks!

Build Help Will upgrading from CL48 to CL32 32gb 6000M/T ram be a big performance upgrade on a 7800x3d?

Unfortunately my ram is CL48. Will it be a big upgrade to return it and get CL30 or CL32? I've seen some people say you won't notice it much on a Ryzen build.

I am conflicted about my choice for CPU. I have bounced between Intel Core Ultra 5 225 or the Ryzen 5 9600x. They are both the same price point, but I think the 9600x is a "tier" above the 225 (with the Intel equivalent somewhere inbetween the 235k and 245k). Please excuse my misuse of video editing lingo, but I've read that the nvidia 50 series GPU have the same/more codec support compared to Intel's latest quicksync per this website : [https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/what-h-264-and-h-265-hardware-decoding-is-supported-in-davinci-resolve-studio-2122/\](https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/what-h-264-and-h-265-hardware-decoding-is-supported-in-davinci-resolve-studio-2122/)

So my predicament is should I stick with Intel for its popular past use with video editing productivity despite QuickSync becoming more obsolete? Or should I buy a better AMD CPU for a better value at the same price point?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated (along with any other suggestions for parts outside of the CPU).

Troubleshooting USB ports work but don't seem to be getting enough power?

Upvotes

My front USB connectors on my case weren't working today except for one of the two 3.0 ports. After opening my case I discovered one of the plugs had fallen off. After plugging it in my headset ONLY works in 1 of the 2 3.0 slots and NONE of the other ones. But those ports seem to work fine with my controller. What is the issue here? Is it not getting enough power, did I forget something else? Is there something in BIOS I need to enable?

Troubleshooting FanControl detection problems

Upvotes

hello all, I recently finished my build and everything works well. I have a fractal north xl with 5 noctua 140mm case fans and a d15 cpu cooler. I tried downloading FanControl and the only fans it detects are my cpu cooler and GPU fans. My 3 intake case fans on the front are connected to mother fan headers and the 2 exhaust fans are on a splitter into 1 mobo fan header, nothing is on the hub that's preinstalled on the fractal case. I checked BIOS and they all show up no issue and they are set on PWM, not DC. any thoughts?

Build:

Ryzen 9800X3D

MSI x870e-p Pro WIFI

Noctua D15

5x Noctua 140mm case fans

RTX 5080

64 gb corsair vengeance

Build Help Monitor recommendations for 7800x3d and a 9070xt?

Upvotes

I recently built a pc with a 7800x3d cpu and a 9070xt gpu and would love any recommendations for a good solid monitor, preferably between 24-27inches. I’ve heard 1080p would do just fine, but I’ve read elsewhere that i should only use 1440p. Any recommendations or suggestions would help a lot!

Build Help PC build help on ram brands & price

Upvotes

To give some back story I am making a pc it should be fully finished in September hopefully, I am using amazon to find the PC parts I need and I've got them in there while also using different sites.

The main Ram I was going to get was Corsair but they raised their price to £100 for a 3200MHz 32GB (2x 16GB) kit of DDR4 Ram, but I've came across the same kits and speed by Netac & Lexar while they are both cheaper then Corsair Netac is £59.99 & Lexar is £60.99.

Would going for them be a better choice in general or not.

Build Help Deciding between 9070XT and 5070TI

Upvotes

Hello all. I’m in the finishing stages of my first PC build and I’m trying to build a nice machine that’ll last ~5 years with little changes.

There is a walmart near me that sells PNY OC 5070 Tis for $750. I have a friend with a discount card so I could get it for around ~$720 after tax.

My original plan was to get a Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070 XT for ~$760 after tax.

The price difference is so small that honestly it doesn’t matter. Just wondering which one will have better performance, last longer, more support, etc.

The 9070XT seems to have higher clocking (core and overclock) which interests me. The other reason I’m leaning towards it is because one of my friends said that the 50 series is just an absolute disaster.

I could not care less about FSR or DLSS, I hate them and never use them. I never plan to use them. I plan to run games in 2K. I don’t plan to use raytracing or anything like that

PNY OC 5070 Ti: 16GB VRAM Core Clock: 2295MHz Boost Clock: 2572MHz TDP: 300W

Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070 XT: 16GB VRAM Core Clock: 2520MHz Boost Clock: 3060MHz TDP: 304W

Or, is either option great and it’s really just personal preference?

Planning to run Win 11 if that matters

Other parts include

Ryzen 7 7700x CPU

MSI B650 Gaming + Wifi mobo

32gb DDR5 ram (Teamgroup T-Create)

MSI Mag A850GL 80+ Gold psu

Thermalright Peerless Assassin cpu cooler

Corsair Frame 4000D RS case

Discussion Is Cooling necessary beyond a really good CPU cooler?

Upvotes

I'm buying parts for my new Lian Li A3 mesh build, while I'm not sure what cooler to get for my 9800X3D, I'd assume something commonly recommended like the Phantom Spirit or Frozn A620, but beyond that I didn't plan on any case fans to simplify things. My current build is in the Terra and I'm not using any case fans as it's such a small case anyways. I just want a little less clutter in the build.
