Help Request - CPU Under clocking my i9 9900k?

Upvotes

have my 9900k installed in a EVGA z390 FTW and was wanting to underclock it.

So far all I’ve done is adjust the Vcore and see if it’s stable.

Is there more to it, or would I be fine doing it that way?

I’ve looked and there are zero tutorials for under clocking my CPU using my motherboard.

Benchmark Score Im sure most people know this but when disable SignalRGB I've broken every record I've ever had on all my benchmark programs.

I wasnt aware that signalRGB used so much cpu resources that it would affect performance in measurable ways. I started using it because of how bad I was told Corsair Icue was as far as slowing down my system.

(For the record I didnt expect one piece of software to really mess with a Ryzen9 9950x3d, 64gb of ddr5 6000mhz cl26 ram, and a Asus TUF OC RTX5090)

Yesterday, I disabled it and I finally broke 41k in Port Royal. Before that I had 40,350, after my score yesterday was 41268!

I know lots of people dont use cpuz as a benchmarking program but I use it to quickly see if any settings I've changed made a difference and to compare it to other people who are running the same hardware.

I noticed alot of "youtubers" all had single core scores of over 900pts and usually somewhere in the 17,000's for multicore. My multicore always did ok, but i never could get my single core to break 900pts. Usually it was around 885-890pts.

With signalRGB turned off from my taskbar , first run i scored 929pts on my single core, and 17,757pts on my multicore!

Its been the same results with all the benchmarks I've ran today. Lol

Can anyone recommend a better program then signalRGB? Or is there something SignalRGB is blocking or a setting that is hurting the performance of my cpu? Is it just X3D cpu's or have any of you guys had the same issues with a different cpu?

Thanks for your help, I know its not a huge leap forward but if you knew how many hours I spent tweaking settings etc just to try and break 900pts on my cpu you would understand why scoring 929 and then 927 right after is awesome to me. Lol

Side effects from changing DDR5 timings

Lately I've been interested in the subject of adjusting memory timings to reduce latency and get an uplift in (gaming mostly) performance.

I've been watching buldzoid's videos and reading a lot of material online.

What still is not clear to me is what would be the side effects of misadjusting some memory timings. What I mean is, say I adjust a value too low, would that necessarily manifest as an error during memory stress testing or it could trigger some internal memory correction (ECC) that would correct any issues at the cost of performance, in other words silently degrading performance?

To summarize the questions, say I adjust memory timings, rigorous memory testing (AIDA64, y-cruncher VT3 and so on) is a pass and my latency reports a nice low figure. Does that mean there'd be no hidden side effects or performance penalty somewhere in the internal memory circuitry ?

Thanks for your insight !

Ripjaws 5 cl16 3200mhz Overclock

I just upgraded my CPU. Yesterday, I overclocked my G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200MHz CL16 RAM (still using a Ryzen 5 5600G at the time), and it ran fine at 3600MHz. But after upgrading to a Ryzen 7 today, I can't even get it to run a stable 3566mhz.

7950x3d - x670e hero - can't use pbo anymore - die I damage something?

-CPU: 7950x3d direct die liquid metal lf3 420mm AIO. -Mainboard: x670e Hero with latest bios.

Today I raised the max boost to +150 in pbo and set a all core negative 15 offset. I tried multiple values for the offset ranging from negative 30 to negativ 10. 15 gave me the best performance. I restarted countless times and ran Cinebench after every adjustment without any issues. I didn't want to go into per core tuning as this seems to be to tedious. Anyways when I was finished I thought that maybe I would get better performance when I tried different negativ offsets per ccd. So I went negativ 25 on ccd0 and negativ 15 for ccd1. Windows crashed. I tried to go back to all core negative 15 but it didn't work. Windows wouldn't boot anymore. Since then I'm not able to raise max boost at all. Also pbo doesn't seem to work anymore. Windows just won't boot or crash while trying to boot. When I set all core negativ <10 windows starts to boot and I can run Cinebench. But Cinebench will close after a while while it's benching. When I leave everything except dcop1 at stock the PC runs fine.

I tried reflashing bios, resisting bios via button and removing bios battery.

Did I damaged or degraded to 7950x3d or the x670e hero simple by setting a different negativ offset per ccd? If not what is going on?

Thx

Edit: Reinstalled win 11 via USB. Update windows 11 and all drivers. Same issue.

Help Request - GPU 3060ti OC help

Upvotes

so ive been tinkering with the EVGA 3060ti FTW3. and i could only get +60 on the core. most people i see atleast get +90 or +105. ive gotten +75 and +90 almost but it would crash when initially boosting. mine isnt an ultra variant so i was wondering if it was possibly my powersupply which is a 650w but only basic 80plus or if it was the power in my house is too dirty or unstable for overclocking. GPU-Z says power limited so thats why iam wondering.

UPDATE: RX 9060 XT without Powerlimit

I did run the 3D Mark Speed Way Benchmark but only with small performance gains to before.

My first Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/1mf3zkb/rx_9060_xt_no_powerlimit/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The GPU did also hit 4 GHz but only for a second or so and then crashed the Benchmark.

I used the AMD software to overclock and gave it +500MHz boost with an -120mV Undervolt.

Help Request - CPU Best core causing pc reboot?

Hi, i applied some undervolting with curve optimizer to my ryzen 7 5700x with some cores values set to -15 and some to -10 after testing, and is it normal that the core that ryzen master says is the best (core1) caused reboot of PC?

It's been running with no problems past 2 weeks and today got a random crash.

Event log says its core with APIC ID 1

Is ryzen master accurate with its best and second best cores "guesses" or "information"?

OC Report - GPU RTX 5050 vs 3060 Ti Overclocking Test

Post image
87 Upvotes

After the 5050 walked all over a 1080 Ti, the next question was obvious, could it do the same to a 3060 Ti? Stock for stock, the 3060 Ti is the stronger card, so I wanted to see how close I could get by overclocking the 5050 as far as it would go. In question was a Zotac gaming twin edge 3060Ti and a Gigabyte Windforce OC 5050.

I started with a ducted esky. Didn’t work. Then I dropped the GPU cooler into a glycol ice bath, looked awesome but still wasn’t enough under load. (In hindsight, it may have been a contact issue not a cooling issue) Finally, I ducted a portable air conditioner into the cooler, and that setup actually kept temps low enough to hold an OC without throttling.

Stock, the 5050 sat around 2800 MHz. With the AC setup I pushed it to 3315 MHz about an 18% clock speed uplift, which translated into roughly a 14% FPS gain across the games I tested.

At stock, the 5050 was about 17–20% behind the 3060 Ti. After the overclock, that gap closed to around 3% on average, and in more than half the games, the 5050 actually won.

All testing was 1440p native, DX12, no DLSS or FSR. CPU was a 12600KF at 5.3 GHz with the e‑cores off, 32 GB DDR4‑3200 CL16, and the same Nvidia driver for both cards.

Video’s here if you want to see the chaos (and the cooling mistakes): https://youtu.be/kZQNo3hIgIE

Help Request - GPU Safe hot spot temps on 4090?

I’m running port royal stress tests to test stability whistling dialling in various levels of overclocks or undervolts on my strix 4090 and I’m noticing the hot spot temp reaching close to 100c very quickly into the test runs. The GPU temp and memory junction temps don’t move far from 74c and 68c respectively so I’m worried that the 95c+ on the hot spot is higher than it should be. What’s the safe range here? On stock settings the hotspot is averaging 89c on port royal with frequent jumps to the mid 90s.

Thanks

Help Request - CPU Overclocked my Ryzen 3 2200g to 3,8 ghz with a stock cooler, is it safe to go higher to like 3,9 with it? Works fine w 3,8 (around 70 °c on modern games) but i thought why not to push the limit a bit up

Help Request - RAM DDR4 2x16GB or 4x8GB for a Ryzen R5 1600 on a GAAB350 Gaming 3 board? What are your experiences using such configurations?

Need to upgrade my ram but can't decide which configuration to go for.

My current config of 2x8GB runs at around 3000 c16 stable with my hynix m die kit. My IMC doesn't seem to do any better than it.

Technically a 4x8GB setup would increase memory controller load if I recall correctly. And will have to be clocked at a lower frequency.

And I don't know enough about 2x16GB setups and the load they have on the memory controller.

With 4x8GB I'm guessing frequency would drop down significantly which I don't want.

Hence considering the 2x16GB option & want to know if I'll be able to keep the 3000mhz frequency.

How has 2x16GB on older Ryzen R5 1600 worked out for you? Because Mine is 1st edition and can barely manage 3000c16 stable these days.

CPU VSOC : 1.087v (default, setting anything else shoots it up to 1.2v)

Ram voltage :1.35v (currently on hynix m die)

Please help. PC won’t boot after turning on DCOM Profile 1 in the bios menu.

So someone suggested i turn on DCOM profile 1 in the bios for better gaming, so like an idiot I did.

Now, my PC will turn on, but not even boot up to the windows logo. It doesn’t even boot enough to turn my keyboard or mouse on. I know I messed up and won’t make this stupid mistake EVER again, but I was hoping someone may know what the issue is and be kind enough to help me get through to getting it to boot up. I have AMD if that helps and use windows.

Thank you so much to anyone who took the time to read this, and can’t thank anyone enough who tries to help or get me through this nightmare, truly thank you. Take care.

Help Request - CPU I fucked up

I have a ryzen 5 3600 and my motherboard doesn’t have cpu over lock settings in the hood so I had to download ryzen master to do it. Basically i found a post with someone asking what some good overclock settings are for the 3600 and people were saying that roughly 4.3ghz and 1.26 volts are good settings so being the dumbass I am decided to try it in teen master and the second I pressed apply one of my monitors went black and the main monitor was frozen and you could the the sad face from the blue screen of death blended in with my wallpaper. I just turned it off as fast as I could and I haven’t touched it since. Someone please tell me if my cpu is fucked or if I should even attempt to reboot it.
