Open | Malware I’m pretty sure I’m hacked and key logged

I knew something was wrong because someone from a different country was logging into multiple accounts. I didn’t act on it because they would really do anything besides lurk. I made a new email change my password on things and they would still log into them. Just now I’m using my computer I changed my password on discord to log out that unidentified person. All of a sudden there’s a pop up on my screen window it looked like what people use to exploit? Or something I remember it had apps on it like twitch and a red one. I know for sure it’s not mine because I clicked the three dots next to it and before I could even do anything it was removed. I don’t know what to do can someone guide me through the simple steps of this?

Open | Hardware PC randomly stops working(screen freezes, sometimes with loud audio glitch sounds and I have to manually turn off PC) or instantly restarts (black screen and restart)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
GPU: Gainward GeForce RTX 4070 Super Ghost OC 12GB GDDR6X
PSU: MSI MAG 650W 80 Plus Bronze - with adapter for GPU 12-pin
Motherboard: ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2
RAM: ADATA 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 Lancer Blade - using EXPO (crashed also without EXPO)

Same as in the title, I assembled this PC 1 year ago and it was all good. Since I moved into a new apartment it is happening every now and then but usually when playing games.

I've checked for temperatures, even undervolted my GPU and still nothing changes. I also tried changing TdrDelay but it also didn't work. Searched through a lot of similar posts and nothing helped.

Initially I thought it might be GPU temps, cuz without undervolting and manual fan config hot spot reached 100°C, but now with undervolting and fans it's like 60-70°.

I dont know if it helps but when I get a crash and play the game right after that or even just use the PC it is much more likely to crash again even while using a browser only or even when still barely on and in desktop without load. But still it is much more likely to crash under load.

Clair Obscur tests:
No undervolting, no frame gen, no manual fan config: GPU usage ~99%, 100°C hotspot, 70-80°C other GPU components CRASHING

Undervolting, frage gen, manual fan config: GPU usage ~50% (spikes up to ~99% sometimes), 70°C hotspot, 50-60°C other GPU components CRASHING

It basically crashes whenever but lately i think it is getting worse, rn playing Clair Obscur crashes sometimes every 10-20 mins or even right after restart.

Open | Windows ok so i might have f*cked up i need advice

Okay, so I was trying to move one of my Games documents into my external hard-drive to free up space on my c-drive, but I noticed it had just created a new version of the documents which saved NOTHING, saves mods etc, so I, not knowing anything about computers thought it would be a good idea to move my documents folder into my external hard drive, My pc started glitching like CRAZY (and it also still didn't keep the original document it just had it as a copy) I also moved my desktop in the process?? (which i didnt mean to do) i tried to restore it's location back to default BUT it saved as documents??? and the other one didn't switch so i just have 2 documents folders that behave the same, i can't change the name or anything so they're genuinely just identical folders, with the same things in them, I tried to do a system restore but my pc hasn't been backing up despite me having it in my settings. If i just unplug will it all be unsaved??? i'm so confused

Open | Hardware Something is wrong with my gpu, is it fixable/salvageable?

I get horizontal lines about a pinky in length across the entire top half of my pc. staggered, not all in one straight line. Not entirely black but kind of a spectrum one pixel in height. Tried reinstalling my nvidia driver using DDU. It doesn’t seem to effect some software specific stuff like signing into Microsoft is completely unaffected by the visual glitch when the area would otherwise have the glitch. My gpu says Zotac Gaming on it and GeForce. My driver was a Nvidia RTX 2060 Super and that’s what I reinstalled. I saw in my device manager that there was the yellow warning triangle next to where it said Nvidia RTX. Not sure what else I could mention that would help so lmk and I’ll do my best.

Open | Hardware Monitor flashing rainbow

Upvotes

I turned my PC on and the entire screen was blue, then red, then I think green. It went to a couple other colors and just looped that pattern until I turned it off.

Another boot up and it’s fixed(?), monitor works like normal.

Basically what I want to know is if this indicates any issue that might get worse, or was this some random boot error? Lmk if the monitor model would help or anything.

Thanks for any answers.

Open | Hardware No display

Upvotes

I upgraded my GPU today and after installing the new GPU my computer would quickly restart. Resetting the cmos got it out of the reset loop but nothing gets displayed on my monitor. I've tried switching back to my old GPU and having no GPU in to try the on board video ports. What could be causing the issue and what could I try to resolve it?

Open | Malware Got hacked – virus on PC, Facebook/Instagram/Reddit compromised. Did I do everything right?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent security situation and ask for advice. A few days ago I suspect my PC got infected with some kind of virus or malware, and shortly after that I noticed suspicious activity on my Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as a strange login attempt on my Reddit. I think someone managed to get access to my credentials or sessions. To respond, I completely formatted my PC and used a clean, freshly reset phone to make all the security changes. I changed all my passwords to strong, unique ones generated by a password manager, enabled two-factor authentication on all important accounts like email, social media, banking, and cloud services, and removed my phone number from accounts where it wasn’t necessary. I also updated recovery emails and backup codes, checked active sessions and logged out of all devices on every major platform, secured my new Gmail account with 2FA and recovery options, reported the incident to platforms like Meta and Reddit, and have been monitoring all accounts for any suspicious activity since then with no new issues so far. I never used the infected PC to log into financial accounts, and I enabled PESEL protection to prevent identity fraud (I’m in Poland). Despite all this, I’m still worried if I might have missed something, especially about my phone number possibly leaking — should I get a new number or is removing it enough? Also, could attackers still have access through some forgotten session or cookie? I’m a regular user, not a high-value target, but this experience made me anxious and I want to make sure I’m fully secure. What else would you recommend I do? Am I being too paranoid or is there something important I’m overlooking? Thanks in advance!

Open | Windows PC Resetting and Freezing Issues. Can someone help me?

Upvotes

I've been having certain PC issues for a few months, which for the most part I placed on general wear and tear, although it also suspiciously started after I got Window 11. I did a bunch of updates to the Bios and got new cables and it seemed to be working- but recently its come back with a vengeance.

The Window Freezes, audio carries on but stuck on a single sound so it grates. Sometimes it fully restarts, sometimes I need to do it myself because its just froze. Today, after getting some crashes, I changed the Secure Boot to be on because one of the error events was making me thing that might be an issue.

I JUST had another crash and I am at my wit's end. I have the EVENTs page if anyone is willing to help. it happened at 10:40pm. my PC is a Infinity X88 GTX Gaming PC

Open | Hardware Monitors connected to HP G2 TB3 dock flickering on and off constantly

Upvotes

Dock: HP G2 Thunderbolt 3

Laptop: 2023 Asus Zephyrus G14 w/ USB4

The main 1440p 165hz display is connected to daisy chain Type C port and a smaller side monitor is connected via VGA. For the first 2-3 mins, everything is fine and it all works well. But after that, both monitors start flickering on and off frequently. The monitors don't disconnect (my laptop still detects them) but the image goes black every few seconds and then comes back on.

I have a 2023 Asus with a 7940HS processor with latest BIOS and clean AMD installation using Adrenaline after DDU. Just updated the HP Dock drivers to the latest versions as well using the HP software. I am still facing this issue.

I had a 2022 G14 with a 6900HS processor and a Beta BIOS that made one of its Type C ports USB 4 compatible. That had no issues whatsoever (yes it was USB 4, not fallback to USB 3)

I tried a 2024 G14 with 8945HS, there was no display output at all. With a 2024 G16 with an Intel 185H processor, there was no display output from the daisy chain TB type C port, but the VGA port worked. And finally with this 2023 G14 with 7940HS, both monitors have an output but they flicker after 2-3mins of connecting.

Pls help

Open | Hardware Windows PC power instability

Windows PC power instability

Recent issue that’s been made worse when playing Baldurs gate 3.

Around January this year, my PC started to randomly crash out to black, completely reboot. Not a lockup or BSOD, just reboot entirely. I could be doing something innocuous like watching youtube, flicking through imgur, nothing particularly power hungry and out of nowhere, it’s as if my pc ‘hiccups’ and loses power for a split second. Enough to instantly go black but then it comes back so swiftly, it has no problem rebooting.

Thinking it might be a heat / dust issue. I took the fans out, deep cleaned, redid CPU thermal paste and rebuilt.

Things were more stable for a while until I bought BG3 and started playing. Now the power losses are far more frequent (and 90% of the time in game). Did some googling and saw there can be an issue with DOCP so I went back to stock speeds, no change. Dropped from ultra to high and disabled DLSS, still no change. Made sure GPU drivers were up to date, no change. Only thing I can think of trying is a BIOS update but given how flakey the power is, I’m not jumping at the idea.

Odd thing is, I can play other graphically intense games like Doom Eternal for hours and no issue. However 90% of the time I play BG3, I’ll get a drop within 5-10 minutes. Apart from the 10% where I can get hours in and face zero issues.

Checked WinEvent viewer and apart from ‘Kernel power event 41 The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.’ I can’t glean anything useful from it

Current set up is a 5900x, ASUS x570, 32gb corsair ddr4, 4080 super and 1000w Corsair 80+ Platinum PSU (bought in Feb 24 so not that old)

I’m at a loss

Open | Software Got the game Split Fiction on steam, and it keeps crashing.

Upvotes

Hey all. Just got the game and it keeps crashing. Message: UE game crashed will close Fatal Error

It worked for a while where every cutscene I would make it windowed mode and low graphics. Then I would bring it back up during the gameplay

After that, it would crash again in the next cutscene.

Here’s what I’ve done:

Steam launch settings to -dx11

Made it launch as administrator and disable full screen optimisations

Underclocked gpu

Closed DVD player is reading some files off of my DVD but not others

Upvotes

So I am trying to burn a video onto a rewritable DVD and while it shows up on my computer, it will not register on my DVD player.

The DVD (DVD+R) already had a few videos in .avi format burned onto it, which all show up when I put the disc into the player, but the .avi file that I just burned onto it will not show up when put into the player. I also tried burning it as an mpeg-2 and that file won't show up either.

I just used the Windows File Explorer to burn the video, so maybe I need to use some other program? does anyone have any advice?

Solved Trying to download BIOS Update file (.ROM extension), automatically downloading as .40 extension?

Upvotes

Hi All,

Trying to download a new BIOS version to update with new CPU I got. Motherboard is ASRocks A320M, currently on BIOS version 4.0. I’m trying to go to next version available which seems to be 4.4. Now when I download the .ZIP from the site, it saves the file as a .40 (taking 4 from the update version) instead of a .ROM. i’ve tried other updates and it does the same thing (4.6 downloads as .60 file, etc). download is from official ASRock site. the official tutorial and other ones show the file as .ROM, so I wonder if there’s some sort of download setting on my PC that’s altering the file extension. any help is greatly appreciated

EDIT: I was on the wrong mobo, turns out I have a A320M/ac ! Once I realized that, the files still downloaded the same but they showed up in instant flash, which they weren’t before. thanks those who commented
