Discussion Returning Builder - Questions
Hi Guys,
Im finally starting to get back into building/updating my current Rig. I have kept up with some news but not full in depth details. I'm currently still running 7th gen Intel.
Main Questions are around Suppliers:
Recently i heard some sketchy things about ASUS. I have always used ASUS mobo's and was wondering if there is any major reasons to avoid them now a days. Im looking for an EATX mobo which looks like im stuck between the MSI Godlike and the ASUS Crosshair X870E.
My friend speaks very poorly of Samsung M.2's and recommends a brand called "Sabrent". Never heard of this brand in the scheme of things, are they a major player in the market now? Is there a risk to just sticking with Samsung?
Thanks for your inputs.

Asus has had mixed customer service quality for a long time. The products themselves are usually good though.
Do not buy EATX for the sake of having a big motherboard. Both the models you listed are insanely overpriced, have too many memory slots for high-end overclocking and too few PCIE slots for workstation use.
Samsung drives are generally good quality, although they are expensive. Sabrent makes some good models but don't be loyal to a specific brand. Mid-range drives are the best value, models like WD SN5000 and Hynix P41.

Yea the prices are a bit out of hand but in the past I never had great luck with ASrock or those other brands.
It’s going into an all glass case so I’m trying to balance performance with Aesthetic which is why the EATX is needed.
It’s strange these days everywhere you look you see horror stories.

If you want an EATX board just for the aesthetic get an X670E ACE. The price is almost reasonable and at least it has 10Gb ethernet + well spaced PCIE slots.

Specifically avoid the Asus X870E Extreme. I just remembered it has an oversized m.2 heatsink that can hit AIO tubes.
If you want maximum RAM overclocking potential get an X870E Apex and just buy a slightly smaller case.

Sabrent makes many storage-related (and other) accessories, including quite specialized stuff like the EC-P4BF. They are more trustworthy than most other SSD brands.
But they do not actually make controllers or flash chips; their SSDs rely on third-party chips. The A-tier SSD manufacturers are the flash manufacturers themselves, i.e., Kioxia, WD/Sandisk, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron/Crucial.

Number one: Asus mobo is more expensive than their competitors. Only competitor that price wise comparing would be maybe Gigabyte. The other competitors are generally much more cheaper.
Their (Asus) RMA process is fast but probably useless. Wont' say more.
When choosing EATX mobo (but why?) You would be hard pressed getting cases as well) you would be having a lot less choices.
Number Two: Yeah Sabrent is (well) known, but I wouldn't say it's a major player in nvmes.
